Travelling out on 10th July. Can anyone tell me what its like for changing travellers cheques. Good or bad?

Sue R          10/10

Just arrived back this afternoon.

Had the most fantastic holiday.  Loved every minute of it, would recommend to anyone.  The beach was lovely, even though it was quite breezy.

Stayed at the Tigaki Star Hotel, which was close to the Salt Lakes.  Hotel was fab, lovely size pool.  Breakfast was a bit basic, just the usual Greek Breakfast, ham, cheese, greek yoghurt etc.  Ate out every morning at Pigeez.

All the restaurants were lovely, my favourite by far was the Sunshine Taverna, just off the main strip - would recommend the Lamb Chops.

Went to Memories every night for cocktails and had a few free shots thrown in.

Anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday - head here, you will not be disappointed.

Just wished I was still there.

Mary,

We asked the same question as we go in July...and, there is now a laundrette there,so you can get the old clothes scrubbed.

Enjoy

Cheers

Hi Stephen,

We have just returned from Tingaki travelling independantly.  We paid 25 euros from Airport to Tingaki and 20 euros back to airport after our holiday.  There are plenty of taxis at the airport.

Stephen H

Could anyone tell me how much it will cost in a taxi from Kos airport to Tingaki?

Or do you think it would be cheaper to book a transfer? I am traveling independantly with my daughter and a friend.

Lynne S

Hi David,

The only barmaid that was there in the day was Maria with the dark hair.  She was there in 2006 when we went.  George, Sula's husband is doing the 'night' shift whilst she recovers from her op.

Arris didnt seem as happy this year as he did in 05 and 06.  He was telling me that he has sciatica in his arm and when he is busy it hurts.

I cant think of a nicer place to spend my holidays and I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi Pete,

We arrived back from Irina Beach last Friday 6th June and I can tell you the 'building works' are nothing for you to worry about honestly.  Yes there are apartments being built in the field next to the Irina Beach but you can hardly hear them.  We had booked independantly this year and we were overlooking the 'field' and it didnt bother us in the slightest.  The 'workmen' and I use that term very loosely arrive at about 8ish, potter about for a bit and are gone by 12.

Im presuming that you have been informed of the 'building works' by your tour operator but please please dont worry there really is nothing to worry about it.  If you havent been before Irina Beach really is a paradise.

Pete T

i am going to irina apts in tingaki in mid july has anyone been there recently as i am concerned about "BUILDING WORKS" that are going on next door to the apts can anyone put my mind at ease !!!!!

Jet

I have just returned from Tingaki (Fri 06.06.08) and I would not recommend anyone relying on the ATM machine as more times than not it did not have any money and you had to keep going back to check when it had been replenished. There is now only one ATM in Tingaki which is next to Meni Beach Hotel. The other one at the roundabout is no longer there.

I found Tingaki to be very quiet (locals were saying quietest May in 13years) but it was still a fab holiday and everyone again was so friendly.

I did find it slightly more expensive than previous year but not by much.

Stayed at Mythos Apartments which of all apartments I have stayed is by FAR the best!! Looking to book to stay there again in october!

Bea R

Just booking to go to Tingaki for October half term - has anyone been at this time of year before? Any info about what the weather will be like and what bars/restaurants will be open would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Bea

David W

Hi Lynne,

Many thanks for the info - looks like no increase since last year :)

I'll certainly pass on your best wishes to Maria - how's the new barmaid, now that Sula has stopped working there? She was always good for free beer any time i've been...

Cheers

Hi David,

We  returned from Irina Beach early Friday morning last week.    I notice you have been before as have we in 05 and 06.

We were averaging 50/55 euros a night for the four of us, that was with starters, a litre of wine, 4 mains and 2 desserts.

We didnt use the cash machines as personally I begrude paying charges to withdraw my own money.  We took all cash as we always do.  My son changed some sterling commission free in Kos Town (near McDonalds) and got 1.26e to the £1.00 which was more than we got here in England before we went (1.17 to the £1.00).  Theokritos Travel were selling at 1.26 to the £1.00 during the time we were there, but they took commission.

I think the most we paid was on the last night at the Ampeli and that was 65E but that included copious amounts of their own wine so that we would sleep on the dreaded night flight home.

Have a wonderful holiday and say hi to Maria from me.

Bea R

Peter - just got back from staying at the Agrotica and can't recommend it highly enough. The owners are lovely and make you feel like a family guest rather than a customer - one the first day we were presented with a huge basket of apricots fresh from their garden, and when we left we were given sweets for the flight and hugs and kisses! Because there are only a few apartments it never feels busy, the pool is wonderful and the views from every angle are spectacular. The sunsets from the balconies are particularly memorable. I'd really recommend hiring bikes as there are lots of beautiful ( and flat! ) lanes all around that are well worth exploring.
A couple of recommendations:
Copious amounts of mozzie spray!
If you're on the dreaded night flight book extra legroom - I didn't and really regretted it...

Hope this answer some questions - hope you have a great time. I'm in the process of booking for October - and I don't usually return to the same place...the Agrotica is a bit special, though.

David W

Anyone who has been to Tingaki recently let me know how the prices for food/drink compare to last year?

We used to get cocktails for 3 euros at night and paid about 50 euro for a meal for 4 (2 adults/2 kids with wine and juice)

Also, how is the exchnage rate when lifting from cash machines compared to what we get here (approx 1.26 euro to the pound)

Any help appreciated as we are returning to Irina Beach on 16th July.

Cheers

David

Hiya Graham....we've been going to Tingaki for the last five years, sometimes twice a year. There are two ATM machines in Tingaki, one on the main street near the fountain ( Meni Hotel )and the other is around the corner toward the salt plains. I do not know about being charged when you withdraw from your own account. I usually use travellers cheques which i change at Theodakis Travel on the main street. Louise who runs the office is British and very knowledable , she also runs some very good value for money excursions as her husband Nico drives the coach on them.

Please read my other postings on this site for further information about resort. I will be going out there on the 6th June for 1 week..........cant wait, i hope you enjoy your time there as much as we do.

Regards Paul

Hi,

I am going to Tingaki on 18th June for 2 weeks with my family staying at the Mythos apartments. Its 10 years since I visited Greece and travellers cheques were all the rage then, I am unsure what facilities are in Tingaki for changing money, ATM's ,banks, bureau de change etc and would like any advice available. I am considering taking a Nationwide debit card because apparently you dont get charged commission with these.

cheers.

Shelagh C

Can anyone tell what the duty free is like at airport are the prices ok or am I better off buying in resort.

Donna H

Hi, It's not actually necessary to into Kos Town to get a bus to Kardamena if you stay in Tingaki.  First get the bus from Tingaki going towards Kos.  Get off the bus at Zipari (5 mins away from Tingaki).  Then cross the road and wait for the bus from Kos going to Kardamena.  If there is a long wait in between buses, Zipari is a very lively community with bars, cafeterias, tavernas and one or two boutiques, so you could browse these while waiting for your bus.

Tina S

Paula - I have stayed at the Marianna Studios for the past five years and find them to be OK.  They are spacious but basic, however you only need a base really and they are quite adequate for that.  Enjoy - we are returning September this year - have been going to Kos for the past 17 years and never get tired of it.

Elaine - Six years ago we stayed in Kardemena, but came back to Tingaki most nights by taxi and it cost us 25 euros - one way then, so I would think that it could be nearer to 35 euros each way now, if not more.  Enjoy.  Mascot bar is FAB and usually banging until around 4.00 in the morning, later if you are prepared to stay there.

Jet

Elaine - you cant get a bus direct to Kardemena, you would need to go into Kos Town first. I am not sure how much a taxi would cost. I paid 14euro from Tingaki to Kos Town (outskirts) last june and taxi from airport to tingaki is 20 euros.

Paula - June weather in Kos is excellant, I have been twice in June and only had one overcast day and one with few showers.

Elaine C

Can someone answer our question please!!!
Can we get a bus from Tingaki to Kardamena direct without going into Kos Town?
Visited Kardamena many many times but first time to Tingaki can't wait, but we still need a night out in Kardamena to catch up with all the madness.
Does anyone know how much a taxi is from Tingaki to Kardamena??

Thanks very much

Hello, my partner and I are visting Tingaki 7th June 2008 for a week stay at the Marianna appartments.

We have read alot of good reviews but a few shocking reviews of the Marianna, could anyone comment on how they founf the hotel if they stayed there.

Also as it will be my birthday while we are out there I am looking to visit a few bars/nightclud there, can anyone recommend one either in Kos or Kardemenna?

I am watching the weather constantly on BBC weather lol but wondered if anyone has been in June before and could tell me how they found the weather out there?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Fliss,

My partner and I went to Kos in Sept 05 and are going back in Sept this year, we love Tingaki. Im early 20's and my partner is late 20's although neither of us are into partying there are still plenty of bars and resteraunts to choose from.

To be honest other than all the pubs I dont think there are any nightclubs but I could be wrong. If you are looking for somewhere you can bathe in the sun during the day and have an entertaining drink in the evening then look no further.

Over the past couple of years we have been abroad a couple of times and rate Kos/Tingaki well above anywhere else we have been hence going back and cannot wait!!!!

Regards,
Mel and Neil

Hi. My and two girl friends are looking for a hol this year. We're afdter somewhere fairly quite and relaxing but not dead! Could anyone give us a quick summary of Tingaki? Thanks!

Donna H

In answer to Jason Lee's question about baby food.  Constantinos Supermarket definitely has a small selection of baby food in jars, I'm not sure about the smaller shops.  They also have a good range of disposable nappies and wipes etc.

I'm sure you won't have any trouble managing.
Have a lovely holiday.

Ady H          10/10

Hi All, stayed at the Angela last year and am heading back again at the end of June. Anyone know where Theo and Hilary are now as would love to catch up with them. Ady

Jason L

SUPERMARKET BABY SUPPLIES ?

We visited Tingaki about three(3) years ago as a couple and had a really relaxing time.
We now have a nine(9) month baby girl and will be returning in June for her first holiday in Greece
I remember as you enter Tingaki from the airport road there is a large supermarket on the left hand side as you head down towards the beach.
My question is does anyone know if it stocks jars of baby food, nappies etc?
If you have a baby and been to Tingaki any advice on where to buy these items would be appreciated?

The tight airlines dont give under 2s a baggage allowance so we have paid for the extra 5kg's each but still want to travel as light as possible.

Does the greengrocer lorry still stop at the beach in the afternoon, best peaches i have had!?!

Six weeks to go

Many thanks, Jason & Jan

The Filitsa Apts are on the main street, about 5-6 minutes from the beach, above a care rental/ money exchange and tourist shop selling ornaments/jewellry etc.  Not a problem if you are on your own

Jet

Can someone tell me the location of the Filitsa Apartments please, I have been to Tingaki several times but cant remember seeing these. Are they on 'bar street'? Really good price showing for them but as I am maybe going on my own, I would prefer not to have apartments that are bit off the 'main street' and bitty dark to walk to at night.

Thanks

Hi Katie,
We went back to Mythos Apts in August and they were as good as ever. Most of the staff are still there but Bill has moved on to Kovotis bar just up the road from the Mythos, a new guy behind Mythos bar and he  is great. If Bill remembers you be aware he gives free shots to any member of your family it doesn't matter  how old you are, on a few occasions we felt rather unwell the next day!!
The new apartments are fantastic really modern and facing the mountains and beach arrr bliss.
Have a great time i'm sure you will
Karen

We are going back to the Sunshine Apartments for 2 weeks from next Wednesday and, mindful of the old adage that it is never a good idea to go back, I have been a little apprehensive about whether we have made a mistake.   However, reading all the positive comments has reassured me that it will be just as good as I remember.  Thank you for this website and the opportunity to chat with like-minded people.

Taxi fares were about £10 english  for the 20/25 min ride when we were there in August. Hope this helps.Tingaki such a beautiful place we have booked to go again in 2008 We stayed at Akti Dimmys which was very clean, with pleasant staff and lovely pool/garden areas, couldn't have been closer to the beach as it is only about 15 steps from the front of apartments. Espyros restaurant close by, food superb and staff very welcoming and friendly. The Mall just off the roundabout is great too, ate there a couple of times. Food and service excellent, waiters and owner very friendly. All in all Tingaki is a really friendly place with friendly people!! Just look at the sunset taken from Zia

Just arrived back from a 2 week stay in Tingaki and it was fantastic. The Fires are on Mainland Greece and nowhere near Kos. We had no trouble at the airport with our baggage although I would remind anyone travelling to make sure any liquids you bring in or out are in your suitcase or they will take them off you.  A good tip is to put some BubbleWrap in the bottom of your suitcase then if you want to bring anything breakable back you have some extra protection! The airport isn't very nice but is in noway a reflection of Kos the island. The resort is extremely safe and has everything to hand along the main street of Tigaki Just read CAROLINE F's review she has it spot on.

Munchies is the place for snacks at very reasonable prices and excellent quality run by Tony and he has Elaine and Lorrain his lovely friendly scottish waitresses to cater for all your needs even if it's just a cup of nice coffee you want and some shade.
Theokritis Travel is excellent for trips which are value, safe, english speaking guides and also for exchanging money, getting a bus timetable or just advice on anything. Louise is English married to Nicos who drives the coaches and nothing is too much trouble she even gave us her card for our boys (Aged 15 and 16) to have while we were on the Island Tour in case there was anything they needed while we were out.
Kos Town has some amazing ruins and you can find them all over and most of them ae free to visit and photograph. The Castle has a charge but only for adults and so does the Asklepion which is just outside the town and well worth the visit. We didn't get on the little train as it was always full so we were brave enough to walk it!! It was hot and when we got to the top we had the fresh orange juice the guy said was the 'best in Greece', well it was fresh cold and cost 4.5 euro each so not sure about that!!! It was ok quenched your thirst! We walked back and stopped in Platani a tiny little village just on the edge of Kos town but very nice cafe's and so cheap. We even found a shop selling lovely fruit and 'Kos' Lettuces!! All in all a very clean and safe place to go,  to either relax or have fun, travel out from to visit places or just walk around it's got everything you need in a very small area or you can easily access a bus to go further a field if you don't want to hire a bike or buggy (They do go a bit fast!!).

Lynne we were in tingaki at the end of june and were charged excess baggage of 36 euros going home, they were weighing all case and  many people were charged an excess. we are going back to tingaki on the 15th sep for a week so we will see what happens this time

Ian

Hi Lynne

I am off  to Kos again in late october 15th time, I have never had my luggage weighed, sometimes the scales are on ,somtimes not, either way they have got your money and want to see the back of you, so I shouldnt worry too much at all obviously dont pack the case so you cant lift it, that may make them a little suspicious. Hope this is of help, any other ??s please ask.One last thing, anyone going to Tingaki use Theokritos travel for your excursions/exchange Louise is very helpful, and english which is a bonus they even have their own coach, cant do enough for you highly reccomended (no relation).

   Ian.

Hi,

We (5 adults) are going to Tingaki for 2 weeks on the 19th September and was wondering if anyone can tell us are they stricked on the weight of luggage coming back to the UK from Kos airport.

Thanks in advance Lynne and Paul.

We loved Tingaki.  One long main street with lots of tavernas and shops.  The beach is at the bottom.  Beautiful and sandy and gives a lovely photo setting when the sun sets.  The beach has MANY many sunbeds on offer at 3 or 4 Euros to hire.  But if you go to King Size, a bit further down on the right, their sunbeds are free.  No mattresses like the others but good for free.  The sea is very clear.  There is a small band of seaweed in some places which you have to pass to go in but it isn't the horrid slimey stuff we have here in the uk.  It is like dried grass.  Take your snorkel and you will see the fish that swim there.  The doughnut man passes up and down the beach in the afternoon offering HUGE doughnuts.  They are very very tasty and cost 2 Euros each.  A choice of vanilla, chocolate or strawberry fillings or just plain ring ones.  They cost 1 Euro in the high street if you rather buy them on they way down.

There is a cash point near the bottom of the high street and plenty of places to exchange currency and travellers cheques. Theokrates travel were very good with their prices for trips etc and also exchanging travellers cheques.  The choices of places to eat are plentiful.  Our fav was the  Mylos restaurant (went 4 times), Saggitarius restaurant (further back up the high street).  This place looks very expensive and rather posh but the prices were the same as everywhere else and the food was very good.  It wasn't as busy as other places either but I believe this is because it is set further back and so people tend to miss it, heading for the main drag.  We also liked the Rodini, opposite our apartments (Angela Aparts).  They were very friendly too and their special offer menus were excellent.  I had a Sirloin steak with onions, mushrooms and rice and veg etc for 6 Euro!!!!  We had free tea/coffee after too.  Their cocktails are only 2 Euros each too!!!  ONeiros was a good place to eat also.  If it is something quick, and cheap and cheerful, we recommend Munchies.  The best Gyros ever.  Eat in or take away.  Run by 2 Scottish girls.

The bus into Kos town only costs 1.6Euro each.  We caught the 6.20pm.  It was packed and quite amusing to see how many more they could cram in.  Standing room only.  I was lucky enough to get a seat when someone got off and sat next to a greek lady from the next village, Zipari who had just taken her two children to the beach to swim.  She was very friendly and it was lovely chatting to an everyday greek person.  The last bus back from Kos Town is at 11pm.  It was a lot quieter coming back.

There are various supermarkets dotted up and down the street and you can get all your basic requirements from them.  However, further back  up the street is the big supermarket, Konstantinos.  This I guess is the greek version of Tesco or Asda and sells everything, food, beach items (lilos, bat and balls etc), souveniers, jewellery, clothing, booze, tobacco, bread, cakes, sausage rolls.  The air condioning in there makes it a worthwhile trip if the heat is getting too much for you!!!  hee hee.

We hired push bikes from Hard Moto at 3Euro each for the day.  They have baskets on the back so we loaded them up with suncream, water and towels and headed off to Marmari beach, some 20-30 minute ride away.  The beach there was lovely.  Sandy again.  Mostly populated by Germans but they were no problem to us.  The sunbeds there were 4 Euro for 2 with an umbrella and some had windshields too.  It was a little bit windy but not anything to be worried about.  If anything the breeze was a welcome cooler.  Would recommend riding bikes in Kos.  It is very flat and so not too hard.  Gives you the chance to see things you might not notice in a car or bus.  I loved looking at the various things growing in the fields, chilli peppers, melons, tomatoes etc.

There is also a doctors surgery in the middle of the high street should you be unfortnate enough to need a doctor.  My daughter had an ear infection and so we needed to make a visit.  The receptionist is Australian/Greek and very  nice and the doctor was extremely helpful and quite dishy too!!!  Made a refreshing change from the experiences I have with the receptionists and doctor here in the uk!!!

All in all, Tingaki was all I had hoped it would be.  I don't like a heaving night club scene but like a little bit of social activity.  If it's night clubs you want, these can be found in Kos Town or Kardamena.

Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we all did.

Joan L

going 2 tingaki 3 october will the weather be ok staying at angela Ht any infro about the place is there still loads open

Kim M

Hi
We returned from Tingaki 4 weeks ago and the rate 1.47 less 2% commission so you are better to change it over there and also Theokritos Travel on the high street  will give you a good deal...plus they are excellent at tours...

Stephen P          9/10

Just come back from KOS, stayed at Sunshine Apartments in Tingaki, and what an excellent resort. A few tips however:

Use Theokritos Travel, owners are English and offer excellent advice and VFM on all excursions, currently offering buy 2 get 1 free deal.
We went to Paradise Beach, Greek Night, Cruise and Nissyros to the Volcano,  all great trips.
There are ATM's and all work OK, alot easier than taking Travellers Cheques.

No problem with Mossies although very hot

The resort is great, lots of Tavernas, good cocktail bars, no nightclubs, worth going into KOS town, will cost 1.6 Euros each on bus and 16E in a Taxi .

Try the Australian bar on the front, good beer and Colin (CJ)is a friendly guy.

If there are any other questions, then Email me on gabbyperrins@aol.com

Cheers

Hi Andy,

I did book with Manos and when we arrived we were asked by Maria the owner if we would like a room near the pool with having kids, we opted for this so I think all the rooms may have air con, however I don't know anyone who has purchased air con but I do know people who have purchased fans. We come to greece every year (first time to Kos) and normally purchase air con or a fan but to be honest we haven't needed to this year, it is very hot but there is a breeze which is refreshing so haven't had the need. Yes there are cash machines on the main street too, hope this helps.

David W

Frances,

The taxi's from Tingkai to Kos Town are approx 13-15 euros each way - you can get a taxi from the rank at the bottom of the main road in Tingaki (next to the fountain)

Cheers

Frances S

Can anyone tell me the cost of taxis to/from Kos town, and are they available?

Frances S

can anyone tell me how much the taxi fare is from tingaki into kos town?

Denny H

Thank you very much for your reply Donna

Denny

Donna H

To the last two queries.  First there are 2 ATMs in Tingaki, both near to the "sqaure" - actually a roundabout near the beach.

Secondly, the cost of a taxi from the airport to Tingaki is about 20/22 euros.

Laura N

Hey Ruth,

Sounds good, should meet for a drink.
We'll wear a pink carnation lol.
Thanks for the info, I couldn't see the review for looking!

Thanks and I'm sure our hols will be out of this world!
102F today! That's HOT!!

click to enlargeThis resort was fantastic!  There are plently of restaurants and tavernas offering a huge range of both sit-down meals and take aways.  There are also plently of bars (but if it is clubs you are after you are probably best off going to Kardemena!).  The people you meet are really friendly and helpful.

We had an extremely large supermarket (Konstantinos) opposite our hotel which sold everything we could ever have needed.  English newspapers could be purchased each day (the correct days paper).

If you want to book any excursions, Theokritos Travel would be the best place to go to in my opinion (situated on the main road, on the left hand side as if you were facing the beach).

Unfortunately my partner was ill early into our holiday and we had to call the English speaking Doctor.  He was very good.  Very friendly and very helpful.  His English was excellent.  Be aware though that call-outs to your hotel room will cost you 80 Euros unless your insurance covers this.  We gave them our insurance details and we actually had an excess of 110 Euros but the doctor said we can just pay his 80 Euros instead.

We stayed at Sunset Hotel and would not want to stay anywhere else as the hotel was top class and the staff were fantastic.

Our holiday was ace and would reccomend Tingaki to anybody.  We stayed 4th July 2007 to 18th July 2007 and the weather was hot hot hot.

P.S. if you are a smoker you may be pleased to know you can bring back 3200 cigarettes!

Kim L

Does anyone know if there is any sea fishing excursion, as my husband is a keen fisherman and it would make him very happy.

Kim L

Is there cash machine, and can you withdraw euros using my bank card.

David W

Thanks Donna - Appreciate the help. We arre staying again at the Irena Beach so it will be a long cycle to pick it up

We ate a couple of times at the Sagittarius last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the curry which I thought was very authentic - I'm sure we will drop in for a meal or a carry out during our fortnight

Thanks again and take care

Hi Kim,

We also go to the Irina Beach Apartments and think exactly the same - like a home from home as all the staff are so nice (especially Chrissy -  picture attached :)). We are heading back on 19th July with the kids and have no doubt it will be as friendly and relaxing as always....
Cheers

My family and I have been going to Tingaki for the last 15 years and we always go to Theokritos Travel it is run by Louise who is English and she is very knowledgable about the Island, her husband Nic drives you around in the coach on tours......this is the best tour company in Tingaki you can also change money with them. We stay at the Irena Beach appartments and we would not stay any other place, we are going back on the 11th July and it is truly like going home for 2 weeks....cant wait.

Julie W

Thanks to Donna Hatzizacharia for the comments on vegetarian food I've just found the message you placed Donna and it was very helpful. I have noted other's comments on restaurants as my sons eat meat but I wondered how it would be for me but I know I'll be fine now thanks.  Only got 7 weeks to go!!

David W          9/10

Andy - We have travelled with MyTravel for the past 2 years (and travelling again with them to Kos again this year) - not had any issues so far - flights on time, food decent enough for an aircraft, etc.

Hope you enjoy Tingaki - if it's a relaxing get away from it all break then you should be fine.

We stay at the Irena Beach Apartments which are about 2 km outside the main street of Tingaki and they are superb (basic but homely and staff are great) - think most of the properties are like that. Don't expect the Ritz and you should be fine.

Cheers

Cash Machines
We are going to Tingaki for the first time on Thursday.

Anyone had any trouble? Hope not I hate travellers cheques.
Hope it is hot out there so I can get a good tan

To Chloe & Simon (Miros Apartments)

Miros is ok but I went there in October, yet it was still hot. I found the rooms cool enough. Take plenty of mosquito stuff including the plug in repellents for the night time. I didn't suffer but a lot of people do, but if you get some mosquito milk (from Boots the Chemist, well worth investing in) and roll it on yourself at night before you hit the town it will do the job.

I loved the place that much that I was almost going to go back and work there. The best bar for me was the Mascot. Plenty of nice places to eat, however the people at the Miros try and get you to go to a place called the Icarus, I think they get free meals if they recommend people!

Miros is a nice place, Tingaki is great and the beaches are pretty good. You can see Turkey from the beach outside the Miros.

July will be hot so can't possibly comment on the coolness of the rooms.

Hi Marjorie,

Have a look here: http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk

Many of the comments from the latter part of last year are quite complimentary, just be aware it's a fair old distance from the centre of Tingaki.

John B

Hello all....

Just returned from Tigaki after a two week stay with a few comments.

Firstly we ate at most of the tavernas while we were there, attempting a different place each night but found that there are a couple of them that stand out from the crowd, of all the tavernas visited the Sagittarius and Spyros were by far the best, Mike is no longer the chef at the Meni and although the food was ok it is not to the same standard as before and others such as Oliver were a little bland and disappointing. the Chinese was expensive and does not accept credit cards (so be warned! if you intend to go there take cash) If you need a snack during the day then go to munchies they will look after you and if you get the chance visit the Rendez-vous bar (latest films / sky sports and good beer / cocktails).

If you intend to bring back Cigarettes / alcohol back may I suggest that you check out the little shop in Kos harbour as it is cheaper than anywhere in Tigaki and they do not charge 2.5% on credit card purchases as the main supermarket in Tigaki does.

Please do as suggested by others on here and book excursions through Theokritis Travel, we made the mistake of booking through Tigaki Express, mainly taken in by them having a  British guy working there selling the tours. we ended up as the minority brits on predominantly German tours where your "English speaking guide" was a German who struggled to speak English, whose prime concern was her German clients and the driver of the coach on the Kos part of the Nyssros trip (who was introduced to us as the boss of Tigaki Express) actually knocked a young couple off their scooter on the main road to Tigaki from Kardamena and didn't stop! - In fact he actually denied doing it when told about the incident. They also threw in a trip to the thermal springs…. This is a place that you might like to visit if you  have a car or other transport (although we found it to be a waste of time) we went though Tigaki Express who take you on a coach and leave you there for 5 hours and considering there is very little to do there, food and drink is at inflated prices, the only toilet is at the very bottom in a little taverna by the "thermal springs" and once you return to the top of the hill you have no where to go it turns into a very long 5 hours. One other thing, if you have silver jewellery take it off if you go into the "springs" as it will react wirh the sulphur and turn black!

Lastly we saw a few people who had issues with mosquitoes but I guess we were lucky - or was it the boots spray? :) put plenty of repellent on at night and you should be ok.

Paul H

Hi Steve, Just back from Tingaki, our 4th visit and I too must stress to visit Louise at Theokritis Travel..( about 6 shops up from fountain on left hand side)her husband Nico drives the coach on excursions and she is very knowledgable about all places around the islands, they are the cheapest for excursions and offer 3 for 2.We did Volcanic island at Nyssaross and have done the 3 island cruise twice now,I'm sure your children would love the waterpark, and also I would recommend the hydrofoil to Rhodes for a day out, they also offer good rates of exchange. We always hire bicycles from Nico's (2 doors down -next to Munchies) for the week as it is so easy to get around by bike and I'm sure the beach will relax and  chill you all out as well ....Get the bus into Kos town and from there you can get buses or boats to almost anywere on the island. There are cash machines at the bottom of the main street (fountain)right hand side and around the corner -left hand side . Enjoy yourselves..... Yammas !!

Paul T

Steve,

I would recommend the trip to see the volcanic crater on Nisyros, the three island cruise and the Lido waterpark at Mastahari. The Greek night in Zia is ok if you like that  kind of thing and Paradise Beach is good for a change of  scene for the day.
Like Derek says don't book with the reps, they charge you at least double the rate of the local operators and they use the same transport etc. I would recommend Theokritos Travel in the main street, last year if you booked two trips with them you got a third trip free, try getting that off your tour rep!

Derek B

Hiya Steve,

It may be worth hiring a car, even if you are ony there for 1 week (you didn't say) Nancyrentacar will offer you a great deal. Other trips to other islands are best booked at Kos Town harbour, Reps will charge way over the odds, but they use the same boats, coaches etc. You can pick up leaflets in the resort.
Hope you have a great time, Happy Holidays

PS.... There loadsa cash points available and also some tavernas, travel agents (local) offer a better exchange rate than the UK, plus Kos Town is only a short car/bus drive away and they are swamped with exchange shops, atm's etc!!

Stephen P

Hi,

We are going to Tingaki this summer and have booked in the Sunshine Apartments, can anyone suggest excursions that will keep 2 adults and 2 children (12/15) entertained?
Also, are there cash points in the resort?

Thanks

Steve

Just got back from Tingaki.  Stayed 2nd to 9th June 2007.  Went for one week with my elderly mother and we stayed in Sunset Apartments/Hotel.  Good sized pool there, but loud music from pool bar and young children playing meant it was noisy at times.  Sun beds around pool were also uncomfortably hard, especially if you planned on sunbathing for long periods of time.  Some saddos did put towels down early morning to reserve beds by pool and believe it or not they were English.  Beach is a better bet - cushioned beds were far more comfortable.  Only 3 euro for whole day per bed and only 15 mins walk from hotel.   Although rooms at Sunset were clean, they were basic and a little dated.  Slamming room doors at all hours of the night by inconsiderate guests was a problem.  Staff however were friendly and made you feel welcomed. Large supermarket opposite hotel was also a bonus.  Cheaper than airport for fags, booze & gifts.  Tingaki resort is good for families, couples, young and old alike.  Very laid back and relaxed.  Pretty mountain views.  Plenty places to hire a bike if you like cycling and exploring the surrounding countryside. Great choice of restaurants and bars.  We ate out every lunchtime and evening and didn't have a bad meal anywhere.  Many many restaurants serving up home made Greek dishes at reasonable prices.  Served by friendly people who work hard to make a living - so don't forget to tip well.  Mosquitos were a problem.  My mother got badly bitten on her feet and legs, even though she wore repellent.  Be prepared by taking antihistamine creams and tablets with you.

Paul T

Hi Julie, we were in Tingaki last August and didn't see any mosquitos at all, maybe we were just lucky!

Not sure about the buses but if you want trips check out Theokritos Travel on the main street, we booked all our trips with them and they were absolutely faultless and much cheaper than the Thomson rep.

There are loads of places to eat in Tingaki and we didn't really have a bad meal, the best was probably the
Mediterranee, it was a bit more pricey than some of the others but well worth it. We weren't too keen on Andreas Taverna due to a mix up with meals and drinks and the staff weren't too friendly either. Maybe we caught them on an off night.

We just want to give you some info about TINGAKI...

Tingaki has about 40 restaurants and around 15 bars, 2 clubs. In all over the island all the bars and clubs close at 4 am exapt friday and saturday when they close around 6 am.
When you want to have a quite night stay indoors but when you want to party there are full of places...
You will find LIVE entertainments in Mascot Bar.Clap
The beach is sandy and the sea is shallow, you will find water sport area  and also nudies area
Welcome to spend a good time in TINGAKI.Embarrassed

Asher T

Will be going to Tingaki mid October to end Oct 07.  Whats the weather like at this time of year?

Also I've read that a lot of Bars, restaurants are closed at this time of year is this going to ne a problem?

Donna H

If you are arriving at 4.30 am I think you will find Piggeez open.  It is situated on the main Tingaki road to the left as you walk towards the beach.  I've heard they are open 24 hrs from June onwards so you should be able to get at least something to drink.

Debbie J

Hi Ali, I don't think you'll find any bars open at 4.30am, in Tingaki it is a quieter resort more family orientated, now if it was Kardemena yes you would, but don't expect lots of clubs, plenty of bars though. It will be a little livelier in July than in May though.

Ali G

Hi,

I'm heading to Tingaki this July with a friend for some much needed relaxation!! First time to Kos and we're really looking forward to it!!

Does anyone know whether there will be any bars open to grab a drink when we arrive - awful night flight I think we're due to land at 4:30am??

Also, any recommendations for the best place to book a day trip to Rhodes?

Any help would be fab!

Thanks,
Ali

Paul T

Linda, the Kos Aqua Beach Club is about 4km from the centre of Tingaki so unless you're up for a long walk you'll need a taxi or hire car to get there.

Tina R

To those who asked about cabs from the airport

We were last in Tingaki in 2005 and paid around 18 - 20 euros.  We were staying at the Mythos which is almost near the beach. Hope this helps.

Going back to Tingaki in June after 5 years will be our fourth visit , never been disappointed great people great food , laid back nice mix of old and young. Watch the wind deceiving you will end up lobstered if you are not aware, hire a bike brill' . Hope it is as good as previous visits it is paradise.

Colin J

Hi Sue

There are lots of eating places in Tingaki ranging from the quick snack variety to the more up market versions. To be honest, all of them offer great VFM and usually excellent service although I would tend to give the Tingaki grill a miss if you dont want to be sitting waiting for a long time.

As Tingaki is quite a smll resort, you will be able to see most of what is on offer by walking down the main road and then making your choice. If you get a chance, come and see me at michi's bar based on the beach front. Ask for Colin

Sue S

Hi
We are going to Tingaki for the very first time at the end of June. has anyone any advice as to the best place to eat etc etc.
Staying at tropical Sol Hotel anyone know it
Thanks
Sue

Beatrice H          10/10

we are going back to tingaki on the 16 may we had such a fab time last year that we have to give it another go.everyone is so freindly all the eating places are as good as each other(excellent) enough bars not to get bored the resort is spottlessly clean all the toilets we used in various places were clean and well kept(not the case in lots of other places we,ve been to,)the place just makes you feel totally relaxed and chilled,we can,t wait to get back there, will report back as soon as we get home

Debbie J

Hi Polly, most places are reasonable in Tingaki depends on what you want to eat and how much you want to spend, we ate most evenings at the Meni Restaurant on the main high street, we found it good and friendly and very reasonable, but I suppose there where cheaper but whether you get the quality i wouldn't know, please try the Meni you won't be disappointed and the staff are very friendly, it is very clean.

Debbie J

Hi Giai, there are several small shops which sell all items not sure where your apartments are but there are small shops by the fountain, along the mani road which runs the stretch of the beach and quite a few on the main street near the top, ther're normally opn from about 8am - 9pm most days and stock quite a few items you'll need, hope this helps

Wattam J          10/10

Hi for anyone who is visiting Tingaki for the first time i can promise you the beach and town are excellent I have been there on at least 20 occassions over the last thirty years. Night life is mixed however it is ideal for people who also like a quiet relaxing time after an excellent meal at one opf the may restaraunts. My wife and i have met many people who return year after year and allthough they are not staying at the Meni beach hotel they sit on the outside patio area of the restaraunt chatting to anyone and watching the people go by. Micheal who runs the restaraunt could not be nicer. He likes nothing better than to sit with the clients at the end of the night and have a chat before going home to Kos TOWN. If you intened having a day on the beach as you pass by stop and order a roast chicken from him. and go and collect it around lunch time. get a nice bottle of wine and sit with the family on the beach and have the most tasty leisurely lunch with some fresh bread.  I promise you its worth all the 5/6 euro and kids love.

Cass L

I've worked in kos as a rep in 2005 & 2006 and it is a brilliant little resort with enough to keep you busy for a 2 week holiday.

The beach there is easily the best on the island and it stretches for miles in each direction (just avoind the nudist beach behind the sand dunes!!!). The water is really shallow for a long way out making it excellent for kids and those maybe not confident in deep water. There is sometimes seaweed as you first go in but don't be out off by it. Once you get out into the water it is lovely soft sand underneath your feet!!!

There are loads of great restaurants/bars to try. My favourite restaurant was Vassilis, on the main street. The service, food and staff were second to non. There is a great place on the beach called Mickies which is owned by Micky a greek australian out there. His chef Billy is superb and they do the best Chicken Ceasar salad I have ever had and the most enormous homemade beef burgers - thats a brilliant choice of places to go during the day! We also went to Pigeez for breakfast and you have to go to Munchies for the best Gyros ever. Again, the staff in Munchies are great and always smiling. Have a gyros with cheese and you won't be disappointed! Say hey to them all from me!

Bar wise, there is a good choice of places. We used to go to Mascot bar all the time for a good night out and they often have entertainment on such a live bands etc and the owner Yiannis will always welcome you with a Tequila - if you don't want the hustle of the bar inside they also have an outdoor part where you can sit and relax and the staff will bring your drinks for you.It was always a great night in Mascots and all the staff are excellent and up for a laugh. Katras is also a great bar for the best Margeritas I have ever had and we used to head there before hitting Mascots!!!

Sunny Days - I love this place and the owner Maria is fantastic. Many people find her rude and sharp but I think that everything is just lost in translation. They are a lovely family, Maria and her husband Spiros and their 4 children (although the girls are all grown up now) are great! Cristos who works behind the bar is great and will always join you for a game of pool. The rooms are your typical greek standard with air-con available. The pool is always empty, it is not a very big area so most people don't seem to use it which is mad as it is a real suntrap and you can sometimes have the pool to yourselves. For kids there are pool tables and things like that to keep them entertained in the evenings too. Say hello to the family for me, especially Maria my "Greek Mama" as she was known.

You will have a fantastic time in Tingaki & Kos. There is loads to do in the area so hire a car (Sevi are really good prices) and get out and about the island and up into the mountains. I also really recommend the trip over to Nissyros, the volcanoe island. If you do just one thing there do that. I would say avoid the bucket shops though and book with the rep, it might cost you 5 euros more but you will have just British guests and will at least get the commentary in English and just that extra level of service the official guides that the tour operatos use can give to the guests. Many other places use unlicensed guides!

It really is a great place and although I am not working there this summer (being boring and returning to the UK for a while) I am certainly heading out there for a 2 week holiday!!!!

Tina R

We went to Tingaki in 2004 and 2005 and are going back this September.  This year will be different as we are now parents to a baby daughter and she will be with us.

It would be really useful to know how easy it is to buy nappies, formula, jars of food etc in the resort and if so, what brands you can get.  I am guessing that the big supermarket, Constantinos I think it's called, would be the best place.

Many thanks

Maggie S

to john brown

From June Piggeeez is open 24hrs for food and drink. Situated in the centre of the main street. Ideal for late arrivals and silly-time departures. Maybe see you.

shirley i have been going to tingaki for 10 years now and still find it a great holiday no 18-30 great for kids great for older family plenty to do for both old and young beach is excelent sea shallow and warm .locals very friendly all on the level so very easy for older ones to get around would highly recomend the akti dimmis hotel  right on the beach family run and very friendly will be staying there for the 9thyear running this year the mythos hotel has large rooms and is right in the town centre about 200 yards from the beach

Allen M          10/10

Tingaki is a wonderful place to holiday where all age groups are welcome with its long wide sandy beach and its welcoming taverns and restaurants. I am about to pay my third visit with my wife 23 year old daughter and my 2 year old granddaughter.

Debbie J          10/10

I like Julie went to Tingaki last May and I can quite honestly say there is no 18-30 holiday here it is more of a family or older persons resort if you want 18-30 go to Kardamena on the other side of the island, it is a relaxing resort  based on one main street which has quiet bars and eatery's ranging from nice restaurants to cafe style taverna's, the other street runs along the beach, The Bus runs every hour into Kos Town and runs quite late into the evening which is worth a visit even if its just for soveniers and a look, I would go back tomorrow if i didn't have the urge to see different islands, I really enjoyed it, I was so Chilled and thats hard for me as I have a stressful job but Tingaki did it for me. The  sea is very easy to get in and out it shelves gently can be quite shallow for a distance ideal for your mum and children she won't hav a problem in Tingaki.

Julie

We went to Tingaki last August and we have just booked to go again this year. It is a lovely resort and not 18-30s at all it has a good few good bars and restaurants but not overpowering at all, we are late 30s with an 11 yr old and we also take my Mum who is 60. The beach is lovely and the sea is shallow it does tend to have a bit of seaweed towards the beach but once passed that the sea is lovely and clear. It is easy to get about as it is very flat in the resort and is easy to get to Kos Town (which is far more busier but a good place to go for the shops and historical interest. Hope this asnwers your question.

Shirley W

Hi...

I'm thinking of going to Tingaki for my hol's, when i told my friends i was thinking of going there they said " i Wouldn't if i was you " she said that there are alot of 18-30's there. I'm taking my family, son 18, daughter 15,  my mum who's nearly 80 and hubby too, any comments would be appreciated, also is the sea shallow? (as  mum finds it difficult getting in and out of the sea).

Debbie Perry maybe you could help me, as you've been there many times?

Thanks

Tingaki is a great place for a holiday, the tavernas are great - you really HAVE to try the food at the Meni, Mike is a wonderful chef and along with Sia and the rest of the team you will be very well looked after!

We are going to Tingaki for our 3rd time in May / June and this time we have booked into the Meni having stayed at two other places on previous occasions (once in an apartment and once in a hotel along the beach) each time we have been there we have visited the meni and found it to be a lovely place.

On each of the other occasions we have travelled with tour companies and have ended up flying in and out at night and having to ask the places to hold our rooms at extra cost, this time we have booked the hotel and the flights ourselves and will be getting the best of both worlds - there is nothing worse than landing in at 1am tired and hungry and nowhere open to get anything! and the best of it is that it hasnt cost the earth to do it....

If you are going to the Island this year we hope that you have a wonderful time!!

John.

Has anyone stayed at the Katras appartments we are staying there this summer any info on these appartments would be welcome, and do they offer you a room on the last day as we are flying in the early hours of the morning, also does anybody know why most flights to Kos are at night

Debbie J          8/10

Hi Andrew, there is a cash machine at the bottom of the main road by the fountain, also the tour shops offer good exchange rates

Debbie J          10/10

click to enlarge Hi Julie, You'll really enjoy Tingaki really easy to travel around the bus runs every hour between 10 past and 25 past each hour depending where you get it and will take you into kos town, if you get this bus to the main road you can them pick up buses to other area's, the buses from Kos Town run all  over the island and are cheap. In Tingaki there are plenty of restaurant my favourite was the Meni restaurant this can be located on the main road in Tingaki about 50 yards up on the left from the beach it does lots of differnt dishes including vegetarian ones you'll enjoy your holiday, When I went in May I didn't have any problems with mosquito's, you may find a nice breeze if the wind gets up a bit so don't burn enjoy your holiday.  and the beautiful sunsets

Julie W

Hello I wondered if anyone can help with my questions?  My family and I are coming to Tingaki in August 2007 and  I was wondering how easy it is to travel around the Island? Also if there are any nice restaurants that anyone can  recomend as I have 2 Vegetarians in the family? Thanks for your help.

Debbie F

MENI BEACH HOTEL/APARTMENTS. We went to Kos in August and stayed at the Kos Aqua Beach Club (fantastic hotel). Whilst we were there we went into tingaki and had 2 meals in this hotel. The food was lovely and the staff were kind and helpful. As far as i know you can only book this hotel direct but from what we saw of it it looked a really nice place to stay. There was a small pool with plenty of loungers. The lady that served our meals had worked there for years and said the apartments were lovely and very well equipped. The grounds looked very pretty and the restaurant was spotless. I would consider staying there as a base as Tingaki isn't a big place and you would need to go out and about. Hope this helps. Thanks for you help, I thought they might be as you cannot find it anywhere and alot of the sites are German. Thanks anyway.

Jet

Julie

As far as I know (tho maybe different for 2007), Meni Beach Hotel tour operators are german etc - no British. You can book direct tho.

Has anyone been to The Meni Hotel, Tingaki, f so what were they like and do you know who the Tour Operator is. Many thanks.

Thanks for the info Maggie!

Jason, The apartments you are asking about belong to the supermarket, Catras. Just call in. Their English is good and the apartments a good size if a little basic. Welcome to Greece!!

click to enlargeHiya im only 15  but i have been and i thought id just tell you about a few things that happened at KOS AQUA BEACH CLUB. When i was there we had to have air conditioning in our room fixed 3 times. The ques for dinners wer out of the main hotel door. The toilets were blocked for a day so the place smelt really bad! I have been told now that the place is ALOT better and all the comments people made including my mum n dad have been taken on board! I did have an excellent time there  and i met around 35 friends!   I complained when i was there but when you get home you realise that it wasnt all that bad! The hotel has got 3 bars  .. a great slide pool and a great wave pool.. football courts.. tennis courts.. an xtra small pool and a babys pool.. a small araced and a childrens play area.. all in all i had a fantastic time.. and at night the security guards were brill.. steve and one that was spitting image of ronaldo lol  they kept us in line and we had a brilliant time! my family also enjoyed the holiday .. all the problems i mentioned at the beginig have been sorted i now believe and im sure the place is brilliant! I WANT TO GO BACK!!!  and u get an aceee tan  xx

a great little resort with everything you would need for a relaxing holiday plenty of good restaurants and bars .Not many shops !! would have benefited from a little more greek charm in the bar department but still a fab place to visit

Derek F

Tingaki is a nice place but we felt most of the Greek had been removed and replaced with English/German bars and all that. I like to look round the history of a place when on holiday but there was little left. Kos town was worth a visit as there was some good sites there. Air Con is needed here and very few hotels seamed to have it ?

Debbie F

WE ARRIVED BACK FROM KOS AQUA BEACH CLUB YESTERDAY AND HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. THE HOTEL IS GREAT BUT QUITE SOME WAY OUT SO IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT HIRE A CAR. TINGAKI WAS LOVELY, NICE BEACH AND SOME LOVELY RESTAURANTS AND SHOPS TO VISIT. HAD A MEAL AT THE MENI BEACH HOTEL, VERY FRIENDLY AND VERY TASTY. KOS TOWN IS WELL WORTH A VISIT IF YOU LIKE HUSTLE BUSTLE.

Debbie J

Hi Peter, stayed at Jonathon Studio's in May this year found accomodation good and a lovely clean pool, Katrina is very friendly and so is her husband Dimitri, Tony is her uncle and over in Kos from America till end of September his english is very good, he's a lovely guy, be expecting to walk alot as the nearest taverna is approx 5 mins walk and the town centre approx 10 mins further on, if you like a quieter holiday this is and ideal base, please say hello to Tony, Katrina and Dimitri from Debbie and Richard Jones we were there in room 8 from the 6 may this year for one week and thoroughly enjoyed it, try one of Tony's barbeque nights plenty to eat, have a good time and hope you enjoyed like we did

The resort of Tingaki is nice & quiet great for a beach holiday, their is not a lot for young kids to do in the evenings, We stayed in the Sunset hotel, pool and appartments very clean, but cooking facilities are beyond belief you cannot cook a meal in, we went out every  night to eat, it can become very costly, August weather is extremly hot getting upto 40 degrees and 30 at night, make sure you get air con,

Julie H

We stopped in Tingaki and the resort is great just enough bars and restaurants and the beach is lovely, one of the best on the island and the sunbeds are only 3 euros each. We ate at Vassilis several times where the food is nice and the staff very friendly same for Spyros and Mediteranee. We used to go to Rondes-vous for a drink and this is nice place to finish off with a cocktail they couldn't do enough they would always find you a seat. We hired a car from Nancy Rent a Car who delivered and picked up even if you booked it late the day before and reasonable prices. We went to Kos town and the ruins are well worth a visit and the water park we went to twice at Mastichari excellant day out they have the usual water slides and more and a wave pool, lazy river and plenty of sunbeds, brilliant.

Would definately go back to this resort.

Paul K

The sunset was quite basic but the pool was great and the people were very friendly but one time there was a big family of 13 big mouthed cockneys and on of them accused the cleaners of stealing some money and started to shout in the reception area where there was also more guests.after being told to calm down the cockney became louder so the man behind reception defended his cleaners and shoved the cockney over and rightly so.Pool food is brill and the tuna salad for 4 euros is great and even a big eater like me was full. There is hardly any cooking equipment but eating out is really cheap.I got back last week.Nice name bye the way.

If you're visiting Tingaki make sure you go to the Piggeeez -  the big english breakfast is terrific. Tea/Coffee, toast and jam, fruit juice, bacon, sausage, tomatoe mushroom fried eggs beans and two eggs. Free refill on the tea/coffee, all for 5.50euro equal to approx 3.80 pounds.  The chicken curry is excellent too, very spicy. Good portions and very friendly staff especially Maggie and David in the mornings - they make you feel at home & are far more helpful than the reps if you want to know anything about the island.

jus came back from kos today after staying at the Jonathon apartments in tingaki.

we had a great time the apartments were spotless the staff were great - we miss them already, and i would love to go back agian
i would recommend it for people to stay there. the beach is across the road to and about 15 minutes walk to the main sheets.

Peter S

Went to Marriana Studios in Tingaki. Absolutely fabulous time. The place spotlessly clean. Main street full of tavernas and restaurants. No pressure whatsoever to be forced to eat. Try Olivers on the right hand side going towards the beach. People very friendly. Resort fairly quiete but does cater for all ages. My wife and I 35 and 43 years old.Ask any questions - will try to answer them. Fabulous holiday.

Nicki G

I went to Tigaki with my boyfriend in early July 2006 as we'd read some excellent reviews about it on sites like this - and we werent disappointed at all!

The resort itself is more or less just made up of the one main street with shops, bars and restaurants running down each side. There's a lovely beach at one end with some of the clearest blue water i've ever seen and then the other end is mostly hotels and goes up to the main road which stretches down the length of Kos itself. Also at this end is an excellent supermarket which sells everything you could need.

It doesn't take more than 15 minutes to walk from one end of Tigaki to the other - very compact resort.

Perfect for couples or possibly families who want a fairly quiet holiday with no loud clubs or Club18-30 types hanging around.

Would definitely go back!

Hi cheryl

Have stayed in Irene II only  for a few hours (was taken as our flight was early in morning and couldnt extend our room in our own Hotel).

The rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. Pool area also looked lovely.

It has a really good location - mins from bars and restaurants and about 5-7mins walk down to the beach. And about the same again in the opposite direction to a large supermarket at the top of the road.

I have recently come back from Tingaki and i loved it! it was everything i was looking for in a holiday resort.

I stayed in Aspro Spiti apartments and although they were quite simple they were just what we needed, the hotel owners are lovely too.

By far my fav bar was KARMA the cocktail bar which the cocktails were only 2 euros!!!!!!!! (even better) Nico the bar man was very nice and we became good friends.

The beach is nice but can get abit windy at times but good to cool down, the water is freezing!

Jessica K

Tingaki was absolutely brilliant! The beach was 2 minutes away the bar street had great clubs like 'Mascot Bar' and 'Memories' and they had lovely restuarants. It had everything you need, even a giant shopping market up the road where you could get everything.

And the must have if you go to Greece is a Ferrari! Its the greatest alcoholic drink ever, you can't get it here in da UK so make da most of it! Its red vodka and redbull, its amazing!!!

I went with my 3 best mates and we are already looking up to book again, we just can't wait!!! It is truly amazing!!

Aniela R

The Mythos Appartments in Tingaki were amazing!! We came as a group of four 18 year olds and we had the time of our lives! Everything you could possibly want was there, shops, restaurants bars and a relaxed atmosphere. The night life in Kos was great but if you want a wider variety of clubs getting to Kardamena is cheap and quick, only 20 minutes by taxi!

Everybody was so friendly and we miss all the staff at Mythos so so muchCry (you know who you are)!... If we don't see you before then we will definately be back next year!
Thank you for making our holiday the best one ever!!
Love always your London Girls x x x x Tongue

Debbie J

Paul i'm sure you will probably get SMA baby milk at the very big supermarket at the top of Tingaki's main street they sell most things if not there is a chemist in the next local village or plenty of places in Kos Town who will probably sell it, the bus runs every hour into Kos Town and only takes  20 minuets have a good holiday

Paul W

does anyone know if you can buy sma baby milk in tingaki

Emma I

Just got back from Tingaki we highly recommend it to anyone had an excellent time, we stayed at the sunny days hotel which was fantastic, the staff we're really friendly. There are lots of restaurants to try highly recommend spyros. The beach is great very clean.

Debbie J

you should be fine to use your cash card in the hole in the wall which is situated near the fountain at the bottom of town, i took stirling with me it was fine and also took euro's, the tour place by the fountain did a very good exchange rate when i was there in may. i got 1.37 euro's here in the uk but in tingaki it was 1.45 euro's, so shop around enjoy your holiday

Donna H

The resort of Tingaki was just one main road - loads of restaurants to try.   Not enough shops and sometimes 5 to 10 minutes walk before you come to a supermarket.   Found that the only place to buy a paper was at the exchange bureau at the roundabout.   Beach was lovely but could have done with the dead seaweed being cleaned on a morning (will never get a blue flag without this). People very friendly and good to children.   Did not get any pressure to try any of the restaurants when walking passed as in some resorts.

Sue W

The perfect beach for forgetting the UK. If you don't fancy laying amongst the beds then just walk a little way to the right and you can normally find a nice piece of beach that's very quiet and almost deserted. Word of warning though, walk left and it's just as peaceful, with the added bonus of a few sand dunes but along this stretch of beach cossies are not compulsory!!!!

Dawn J

Tingaki was really quiet, plenty of resteraunts. There was a good bar for night time boozing on the beach front called mickis. Everyone in tingaki was really friendly but if you want clubs etc. there are none there

Dawn J

Spent a week here earlier in the year( 6 may) i stayed at marianna apartments in tingaki. The trip to turkey if i remember rightly was 25 euros per person. But worth it, fake designer everything. Supposed to be going to kos aqua beach club on 12 july, hope its finished on time. Kos aqua beach club is nearly an hours walk from tingaki town and possibly longer to kos itself, no shops or anything nearby.

Donna H

Just to clarify about taking a holiday in October - the resort of Tingaki basically closes down on 30/31 October.  Prior to that though there may be a number of restaurants which start winding down from about halfway through the month.  This should not put you off because within the area of Tingaki there are at least 50 restaurants/tavernas/snack bars to choose from.  The bars probably won't be as lively and may not stay open until 5 am but you will still have a good timeSmile

Stewart F

can anyone tell me the resort of tingaki is still got everything open or is there some stuff shutting down, we are going on the 5th oct for 2 weeks any information about the resort would behelp full

this is a comment for Kieran Winters and Sarah and John.

Kieran Kos is such a good holiday place we are going for a 2nd time this year.  Tingaki is beautiful and there is plenty to do.  all the other towns are in easy reach so you can go off visiting places.  there are loads of things to see and do.  i recoment one of the many boat trips that are on offer its a great day out! .  the bars and restaurants are excellent and very well priced.  the beaches are lovely, picture perfect.  it is such a clean place and the people couldnt be more inviting.  if you dont enjoy your stay in Tingaki then your standards are WAY TOO high!

Sarah and John who were asking about taxis.  our flight got in at 2am and there were plenty of taxis outside the airport, just like they do at airports over here.  i dont think you will have a problem.

Debbie J

I spent 1 week in Tingaki begining of may 06 had a brilliant time will be going back again, when i was there it was very quiet as start of season but most of the restaurants and bars were open, if you like chinese there is a new chinese restaurant being built on the main street about half way up on the left, if any one tries it please post an update as i love chinese food, bikes are cheap to hire and plenty of them, the beach is brilliant and the meni restaurant is a must, the hospitallity it brilliant and the food excellent, make sure you taker plenty of photo's of the fantastic sunset over kalymos. i can highly recomend this resort for all ages

Karen A

We went a few years back as a couple and had a fantastic time, staying at the Villa Andres.  It was one of the best week's holidays I have ever had.  We decided, now we've got children, to go to the new Kos Aqua Beach Club.  I booked it in August 2005 and since then I got letter after letter from First Choice lowering the type of accommodation I could have, withdrawing the facilities on offer etc etc.  I think, by looking at the other comments on this site, that I had a lucky escape.  I got my deposit back in February (without any hassle) and booked to go somewhere else with another tour operator.  I might try it next year when it has been established a while.  Any comments from people who do try it this year will be appreciated.  Thanks
