Angela Aparthotel - (Accommodation in Tingaki)

Not long home after 2 weeks at the Angela Aparments, Tingaki.  I was a little worried to say the least after reading all the negative reviews on this site.  However, I have to say most of them are old ones and not from this year.

We found the Angela Apartments to be better than the reviews on here.  My only critisism would be the catering facilities in the room were poorer than in other apartments I have stayed in in Greece.  Not that we really would have spent much time cooking in the apartments anyway.  It is so cheap to eat out and why bother anyway?  You are on holiday after all.  The rooms were a decent size and cleaned regularly.

There was a shortage of sunbeds too as the pool is quite small and we found they were taken up pretty quickly unless you got up early and staked your place with your towel!!!  The beach is not far to walk so we found it just as easy to go there.  Besides which, we found it cooler on the beach with the sea breeze.    Nicky was very helpful to us.  Theo in the pool bar was a star.  Always a smile and warm welcome.  His cocktails (our nightcaps) were very generous and tasty.

We had a great time in here on Monday night.  It was the Ali G show which was hosted by Brian.  He played Elvis, George Michael and Ali G.  He did a fantastic job and had the place rocking by the end of the night.  The cocktails were great, service excellent.  Thank you!!!

Bubble Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Lovely day spent here.  The beach is so sandy and the water (like everywhere on the island) was soooo clear.  Take your snorkel to see the fish and also view the bubbles from under water.  It is amazing.  We found the most bubbles to the left of the Water Sport hut.  It felt quite magical and whether it was my imagination or not, but I felt invigorated when I came out.

The water sports on offer are very good and I believe the prices to be fair.  My two daughters did a twin paraglide and it cost 60Euros (or 35 single).  My parnter and I took a jet ski for 30 Euro.  Great fun. Well worth a visit, even if only to try a different beach.

Lido Waterpark - (Kos Excursions)

This was a great day out.  It was very very clean with plenty of sunbeds too if you needed a rest.  Lockers are available to put your valuables in.  You aren't allowed to take food or drink in with you and so have to buy your food there.  The prices were about the same as outside but the service was pretty miserable.  My meal was brought out a good half hour before the rest of the families.  By the time theirs came I had finished.  The waitress was grumpy as were the assistants on the reception desk but that didn't spoil our day.  The Wave Pool had the BIGGEST waves ever.  The Lazy River ride was very relaxing.  Go in a rubber ring on your own or a twin with your mate.  The queues appear to be long but they don't take long to work your way through.

Therme (hot springs) - (Places to Visit on Kos)

We took ourselves to the springs by ourselves in a hired jeep.  Well worth the visit.  The water was unbelievably warm and of course the bubbles too!!!  We too were advised not to wear silver into the water as the sulphur spoils it.  It was a bit stoney here compared to other beaches.  Again, we found fish swimming in the lovely clear waters(obviously not in the hot parts!!!)  The car on the side of the cliffs was a bit of a surprise to see.  Was worried about parking beneath it incase it fell down!!!  We stopped at the little cafe at the top after our warm jacuzzi and found the guy up there very friendly and helpful.  The snacks (hot dogs) were huge and tasty.

Zia Sunset - (Places to Visit on Kos)

The sunset is a beautiful sight from here.  We watched it from the taverna at the top with a roof terrace.  Best view I think but the food left a lot to be desired.  We were advised after that we would have been better to eat at the Dikeos taverna which is very pretty and makes traditional home cooked food.  We panicked though and just wanted to find a good place to view the sunset.  The views of the villages below were also well worth the trip up.  We could pick out Tingaki high street easily which is where we stayed for the two weeks.  The sunset was also viewed just as good from Tingaki beach.  The village of Zia is very pretty with lots of little shops selling mats, oils and various other tourist trinkets.  We also went back in the daytime in a hired jeep.  It was stifling hot though and I enjoyed the evening much better.

MYLOS restaurant - the one with the little windmill at the back.  I cannot understand the poor ratings of this wonderful restaurant.  We spent 4 evenings here.  Our first night  prompted us to return again and again. We just had to have our last meal here before going home.  They gave us a lovely send off too.  If ever we return to Tingaki, we will most definitely be returning there for our meals.  The food was wonderful.  The service was excellent and the waiters were soooo friendly, welcoming and funny.  The prices were very reasonable and the portions more than adequate.  The Beef Stifado and Lamb with Greek Roast potatoes were our favourites.  Ilios the "Scottish" waiter was very amusing.  Thank you guys for making us so welcome and helping to make our holiday the success that it was.

Tingaki Resort - (Resorts on Kos)

We loved Tingaki.  One long main street with lots of tavernas and shops.  The beach is at the bottom.  Beautiful and sandy and gives a lovely photo setting when the sun sets.  The beach has MANY many sunbeds on offer at 3 or 4 Euros to hire.  But if you go to King Size, a bit further down on the right, their sunbeds are free.  No mattresses like the others but good for free.  The sea is very clear.  There is a small band of seaweed in some places which you have to pass to go in but it isn't the horrid slimey stuff we have here in the uk.  It is like dried grass.  Take your snorkel and you will see the fish that swim there.  The doughnut man passes up and down the beach in the afternoon offering HUGE doughnuts.  They are very very tasty and cost 2 Euros each.  A choice of vanilla, chocolate or strawberry fillings or just plain ring ones.  They cost 1 Euro in the high street if you rather buy them on they way down.

There is a cash point near the bottom of the high street and plenty of places to exchange currency and travellers cheques. Theokrates travel were very good with their prices for trips etc and also exchanging travellers cheques.  The choices of places to eat are plentiful.  Our fav was the  Mylos restaurant (went 4 times), Saggitarius restaurant (further back up the high street).  This place looks very expensive and rather posh but the prices were the same as everywhere else and the food was very good.  It wasn't as busy as other places either but I believe this is because it is set further back and so people tend to miss it, heading for the main drag.  We also liked the Rodini, opposite our apartments (Angela Aparts).  They were very friendly too and their special offer menus were excellent.  I had a Sirloin steak with onions, mushrooms and rice and veg etc for 6 Euro!!!!  We had free tea/coffee after too.  Their cocktails are only 2 Euros each too!!!  ONeiros was a good place to eat also.  If it is something quick, and cheap and cheerful, we recommend Munchies.  The best Gyros ever.  Eat in or take away.  Run by 2 Scottish girls.

The bus into Kos town only costs 1.6Euro each.  We caught the 6.20pm.  It was packed and quite amusing to see how many more they could cram in.  Standing room only.  I was lucky enough to get a seat when someone got off and sat next to a greek lady from the next village, Zipari who had just taken her two children to the beach to swim.  She was very friendly and it was lovely chatting to an everyday greek person.  The last bus back from Kos Town is at 11pm.  It was a lot quieter coming back.

There are various supermarkets dotted up and down the street and you can get all your basic requirements from them.  However, further back  up the street is the big supermarket, Konstantinos.  This I guess is the greek version of Tesco or Asda and sells everything, food, beach items (lilos, bat and balls etc), souveniers, jewellery, clothing, booze, tobacco, bread, cakes, sausage rolls.  The air condioning in there makes it a worthwhile trip if the heat is getting too much for you!!!  hee hee.

We hired push bikes from Hard Moto at 3Euro each for the day.  They have baskets on the back so we loaded them up with suncream, water and towels and headed off to Marmari beach, some 20-30 minute ride away.  The beach there was lovely.  Sandy again.  Mostly populated by Germans but they were no problem to us.  The sunbeds there were 4 Euro for 2 with an umbrella and some had windshields too.  It was a little bit windy but not anything to be worried about.  If anything the breeze was a welcome cooler.  Would recommend riding bikes in Kos.  It is very flat and so not too hard.  Gives you the chance to see things you might not notice in a car or bus.  I loved looking at the various things growing in the fields, chilli peppers, melons, tomatoes etc.

There is also a doctors surgery in the middle of the high street should you be unfortnate enough to need a doctor.  My daughter had an ear infection and so we needed to make a visit.  The receptionist is Australian/Greek and very  nice and the doctor was extremely helpful and quite dishy too!!!  Made a refreshing change from the experiences I have with the receptionists and doctor here in the uk!!!

All in all, Tingaki was all I had hoped it would be.  I don't like a heaving night club scene but like a little bit of social activity.  If it's night clubs you want, these can be found in Kos Town or Kardamena.

Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we all did.

Rendezvous - (Bars in Tingaki)

Caroline F          8/10

Went here a couple of times to watch films.  Obviously they were pirate copied dvd's of the latest films but killed a few hours if you were tired of sunbathing and shopping etc.  The staff were nice enough and the drinks were average priced here.  You can also access the internet here for 3Euro an hour, minimum of 1.50 charge if you use less than the hour.  I used it once to contact home just to let them know we all arrived ok.  The area where you use the internet is very hot and sticky and full of flies or mossies.  Couldn't wait to get out of that area.  Otherwise ok place, especially if you are a soap fan as they show all the favs, Eastenders, Corrie and Emmerdale.  All the footie is shown too.  Not my cup of tea really on a holiday but there if it's yours.

Rodini - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Caroline F          10/10

This place was just across the road from our apartments and consequently we didn't think to go in until near the end of our stay.  Funny how you never use the places on your doorstep.  It's the same at home!!!  However, we did eventually go in and so glad we did.  The food is second to none.  Very generous portions and reasonable prices.  I had a "special" from the board outside.  Sirloin steak, mushrooms, onions, rice, fries and veg for 6 Euro!!!  Free tea or coffee at the end.  Waiters very warm and welcoming.  Cocktails only 2 Euros each.  Cheapest we found in Tingaki.  The next cheapest were in the Karma Cocktail bar at 3 Euro each.  Plenty to try at Rodini.  Give them a go.  You won't be disappointed.

Sagittarius Restaurant - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

A lovely (posh looking) restaurant.  Was a little wary at first because of it's appearance, we thought it would be more expensive, but we were wrong!!!  All the meals in Tingaki are roughly the same in price no matter where you go.  I had the Chef Special salad and it was HUGE as was the chicken fillet in breadcrumbs my daughter had.  Lots and lots to choose.  Try it, you will like it.

Hi Leanne

We didn't see paragliding in Tingaki.  My daughter was desperate to do it and we found it at Paradise Beach (aka Bubble Beach).  It cost 35euro single or if you went up in a double it was 60euro.  My partner and I took a jet ski there too.  It was 30 euro for 20 minutes.  Fab beach, great fun.  Coach trip there only costs about 6 euro each and you can also take the public bus but I don't know how much that costs.  Take a picnic and enjoy a day on different beach for a change. The bubbles from the volcano on the opposite island are something else too when you find them.  Kardamena also did all the watersports including jet skis and paragliding but couldn't tell you how much.
