just got back early hours today from tingaki stayed at the jonathon apartments, Katrina and Demitri run the apartments both are very friendly though there english is fair, the property is well looked after and demitri takes great pride in the pool, apartments are spotless, linen change on wednesdays along with towels, rooms are cleaned daily (katrina does the cleaning on will just wait for you to go out before she starts), all rooms have tv, microwaves and hairdrier, from what i can see they are great with kids.At present katrina's uncle tony is staying and helping for the summer his english is great or should i say his american, he's very friendly if you go say hiya from debbie and richard (ask him has he seen the vampires and he'll know who we are). The beach is just at the end of the drive and i prefered it to the main beach, the water is swallow for quite a good distance out, take good high factors as can be windy but not cold so you don't get sticky with the heat at these apartments, saftey deposit boxes are 10 euro's per week and the air con is 25 euro's per week or 5 euro's per day in studio's apartments slightly more, these apartments are about 1 km from town which takes approx 10 mins to walk but it is very peaceful and easy to relax hear no hustle and bustle, see my report on the resort of tingaki, anything other info anyone needs just ask and i'll reply hope to go back next year and stay at jonathon apartmens
Tingaki is a quiet resort not like Kos Town or Kardamena, basically it consists of two roads one which runs off the main Kos to Kefalos road down to a very pretty roundabout with a fountain and along the beach front, most of the tavernas, restaurants and gift shops are on the main road to the roundabount, along the beach road are a few tavernas and supermarkets, at the top of the main high street is a very large supermarket called Constantinos this is a bit like Asda but on a slightly smaller scale alot of english brands sold here but I found the smaller supermarkets cheaper, there are plenty of vehicle rental places in tingaki who rent cars, scooters quad bikes and bicycles (the bicycles are approx 3 euro's a day and have padlock security with them by for the safer way to travel), there are plenty of sunbeds on the beach to rent per day approx 3-4 euros.I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Tingaki, and as for the food it was great anyone visiting must have a meal at the Meni Restaurant (this is on the main road itself not far from the roundabout) the chef is very good and the staff are so friendly, a lady called Sia will escort you in off the street and Andy the Manager is very pleasent with his colourful shirts, I eat most nights here as the food was so good and not expensive, another good restaurant is the Scala this is on the corner by the roundabout, any one going must try the seafood at either restaurant as it is excellant. A bus service operates daily along the seafront and up the main street every hour to Kos Town, from where I stayed at the far end of Tingaki the bus left at 20 past the hour starting at 09.20am and cost 1 euro and 40 cent and takes approx 20 mins, buses from Kos Town are on the hour but don't run at 12 noon or at 2pm so beware but they run till late I think last bus from Kos Town to Tingaki is 11pm, you can also catch buses on the main road from Kos to most other resorts. Hope my info has helped you in all I had a very relaxing and good holiday and I will return to Tingaki again soon
the jonathon apartment supply 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel per person they request that these are not taken from the rooms, so take your own beach towels, if you've got and old towel for the bathroom floor take this as floor in bathroom gets quite wet when showering and slippy, you will find a microwave, and two electric rings for cooking on, a small pan enough for two cups of tea, coffee maker, unfortunately no toaster, you don't need your hairdryer as the is one positioned right by dressing table and mirror, take a tea towl with you as they are not supplied nor is a dish cloth, also buy some toilet rolls when you get there, one is supplied in your room on arrival, you will have a fridge with a small freezer compartment also, and on your balcony or terrace you will have a small clothes airer, i really enjoyed my stay and can't complain about anything, there is also basic cutlery and cups and plates in the cupboard under the sink
i was in tingaki 6/5/06 for one week weather was perfect approx 24c most days even on the friday when we had a few showers, the evening got a bit cooler so take a cardigan as there's always a breeze on this cost line, i found the weather perfect as i suffer from p***kly heat had no problems at all and i found no mosquitos whist there
Found cost of living relatively cheap , cheap to eat out even at the nicest restaurants so don't let the luxury looks put you off, found j & m supermarket on coast road by atki dimmy apartment the cheapest for most thing, whislt i found the large supermarket at the top of tingaki more expensive but a wider range of goods, exchange rates weren't bad at home in uk i got 1.38 in tingaki 1.44 just enjoy i only took £250.00 for one week self catering and i took £75.00 home even after a few pressies and eating out every evening at a really nice restaurant so i think it was very cheap
I spent 1 week in Tingaki begining of may 06 had a brilliant time will be going back again, when i was there it was very quiet as start of season but most of the restaurants and bars were open, if you like chinese there is a new chinese restaurant being built on the main street about half way up on the left, if any one tries it please post an update as i love chinese food, bikes are cheap to hire and plenty of them, the beach is brilliant and the meni restaurant is a must, the hospitallity it brilliant and the food excellent, make sure you taker plenty of photo's of the fantastic sunset over kalymos. i can highly recomend this resort for all ages
you should be fine to use your cash card in the hole in the wall which is situated near the fountain at the bottom of town, i took stirling with me it was fine and also took euro's, the tour place by the fountain did a very good exchange rate when i was there in may. i got 1.37 euro's here in the uk but in tingaki it was 1.45 euro's, so shop around enjoy your holiday
Paul i'm sure you will probably get SMA baby milk at the very big supermarket at the top of Tingaki's main street they sell most things if not there is a chemist in the next local village or plenty of places in Kos Town who will probably sell it, the bus runs every hour into Kos Town and only takes 20 minuets have a good holiday
Hi Peter, stayed at Jonathon Studio's in May this year found accomodation good and a lovely clean pool, Katrina is very friendly and so is her husband Dimitri, Tony is her uncle and over in Kos from America till end of September his english is very good, he's a lovely guy, be expecting to walk alot as the nearest taverna is approx 5 mins walk and the town centre approx 10 mins further on, if you like a quieter holiday this is and ideal base, please say hello to Tony, Katrina and Dimitri from Debbie and Richard Jones we were there in room 8 from the 6 may this year for one week and thoroughly enjoyed it, try one of Tony's barbeque nights plenty to eat, have a good time and hope you enjoyed like we did
Hi I stayed at the Jonathan Apartment in May 2006,I loved it. The beach is very narrow but just across the road shelves very gentally into the sea you can walk quite far out before it gets deeper, if you walk 5 mins to the left of the apartments this will bring you to the main beach which is quite wide and plenty of sunbeds, never walked to marmari along beach but tingaki town centre is about 10-15 mins from apartments at a leisurely stroll .This photo is the beach across the road from the apartments, the other photo is the sunset from the beach which are fantastic, the sunsets over Kalymos, the last picture if of the view from the apartment towards the pool and beach, really is a lovely setting
Hi Julie, You'll really enjoy Tingaki really easy to travel around the bus runs every hour between 10 past and 25 past each hour depending where you get it and will take you into kos town, if you get this bus to the main road you can them pick up buses to other area's, the buses from Kos Town run all over the island and are cheap. In Tingaki there are plenty of restaurant my favourite was the Meni restaurant this can be located on the main road in Tingaki about 50 yards up on the left from the beach it does lots of differnt dishes including vegetarian ones you'll enjoy your holiday, When I went in May I didn't have any problems with mosquito's, you may find a nice breeze if the wind gets up a bit so don't burn enjoy your holiday. and the beautiful sunsets
Hi Andrew, there is a cash machine at the bottom of the main road by the fountain, also the tour shops offer good exchange rates
Hi Ron, PLease put all your fears behind you I went to Jonathan Apartments last May had a fantastic holiday, I found Kosmar by far one of the best tour operators I travelled with when we landed we where shown to are coach and given an introduction brouchure along with a letter style card which told us which room number and hotel/apartments we where in, also this had a map of the resort which was very helpful, the representative showd us to are rooms and left but she was at the accomodation each day if you needed her. Just remember once you've unlocked your door to your room put the key in the electricity slot when you take it out after about 3mins the electricity goes off this aparantly is what it is like in all greek islands. So go and enjoy your holiday I did. The only thing is there is no reception or phone on site so I don't think there would be an email address if I can find my leaflet I will get you Kosmars details in Kos, but don't forget there not on the island until May when season starts.
I like Julie went to Tingaki last May and I can quite honestly say there is no 18-30 holiday here it is more of a family or older persons resort if you want 18-30 go to Kardamena on the other side of the island, it is a relaxing resort based on one main street which has quiet bars and eatery's ranging from nice restaurants to cafe style taverna's, the other street runs along the beach, The Bus runs every hour into Kos Town and runs quite late into the evening which is worth a visit even if its just for soveniers and a look, I would go back tomorrow if i didn't have the urge to see different islands, I really enjoyed it, I was so Chilled and thats hard for me as I have a stressful job but Tingaki did it for me. The sea is very easy to get in and out it shelves gently can be quite shallow for a distance ideal for your mum and children she won't hav a problem in Tingaki.
I had an excellent service of Kosmar, plenty of infomation and very helpful, rep available every day in my resort Tingaki, I've booked again to go to Skiathos this year with them. Our flight times changed and we had a delay in and out but the flight is beyond Kosmar's control that due to avaition problems and airline problems, the accomodation Jonathan Apartments in Tingaki was excellent I would revisit again.
Hi Giai, there are several small shops which sell all items not sure where your apartments are but there are small shops by the fountain, along the mani road which runs the stretch of the beach and quite a few on the main street near the top, ther're normally opn from about 8am - 9pm most days and stock quite a few items you'll need, hope this helps
Hi Polly, most places are reasonable in Tingaki depends on what you want to eat and how much you want to spend, we ate most evenings at the Meni Restaurant on the main high street, we found it good and friendly and very reasonable, but I suppose there where cheaper but whether you get the quality i wouldn't know, please try the Meni you won't be disappointed and the staff are very friendly, it is very clean.
Hi Paul and Brenda, I do remember you, had a fantastic holiday last year, where off to Skiathos this year 8th June, will go back to Tingaki maybe late next year as were getting married next May and them off to Santorini for honeymoon, may go out to Tingaki Sept next year, trying to see as many of the islands as possible. Hope your both well its nice to hear from you, if you fancy emailing me debbie.jones66@tiscali.co.uk.we can have a chat. Send our regards to Katarina and Dimitri and Uncle Tony if he's at the Jonathan still.
Hi Ali, I don't think you'll find any bars open at 4.30am, in Tingaki it is a quieter resort more family orientated, now if it was Kardemena yes you would, but don't expect lots of clubs, plenty of bars though. It will be a little livelier in July than in May though.
