Tingaki Resort - (Resorts on Kos)

Hi David,

We  returned from Irina Beach early Friday morning last week.    I notice you have been before as have we in 05 and 06.

We were averaging 50/55 euros a night for the four of us, that was with starters, a litre of wine, 4 mains and 2 desserts.

We didnt use the cash machines as personally I begrude paying charges to withdraw my own money.  We took all cash as we always do.  My son changed some sterling commission free in Kos Town (near McDonalds) and got 1.26e to the £1.00 which was more than we got here in England before we went (1.17 to the £1.00).  Theokritos Travel were selling at 1.26 to the £1.00 during the time we were there, but they took commission.

I think the most we paid was on the last night at the Ampeli and that was 65E but that included copious amounts of their own wine so that we would sleep on the dreaded night flight home.

Have a wonderful holiday and say hi to Maria from me.

Kos Airport - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Lynne S

Hi John,

We flew home from Kos early Friday morning 6th June.  We travelled independantly this time  and decided to get to the airport BEFORE the transfer coaches arrived.  There were no queues but we were delayed so by the time the transfer coaches arrived the people on them ended up sitting on the floor.  Kos airport is small but if you go with this in mind you should be fine.  The last time we went to Kos was August 06 and yes we did have to wait in the sun for over an hour as the queues were outside the building but go prepared, take drinks with you and you should be okay.

Happy Holidays

Hi Pete,

We arrived back from Irina Beach last Friday 6th June and I can tell you the 'building works' are nothing for you to worry about honestly.  Yes there are apartments being built in the field next to the Irina Beach but you can hardly hear them.  We had booked independantly this year and we were overlooking the 'field' and it didnt bother us in the slightest.  The 'workmen' and I use that term very loosely arrive at about 8ish, potter about for a bit and are gone by 12.

Im presuming that you have been informed of the 'building works' by your tour operator but please please dont worry there really is nothing to worry about it.  If you havent been before Irina Beach really is a paradise.

Hi David,

The only barmaid that was there in the day was Maria with the dark hair.  She was there in 2006 when we went.  George, Sula's husband is doing the 'night' shift whilst she recovers from her op.

Arris didnt seem as happy this year as he did in 05 and 06.  He was telling me that he has sciatica in his arm and when he is busy it hurts.

I cant think of a nicer place to spend my holidays and I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi Stephen,

We have just returned from Tingaki travelling independantly.  We paid 25 euros from Airport to Tingaki and 20 euros back to airport after our holiday.  There are plenty of taxis at the airport.

Hi Sara,

You can change travellers cheques at a couple of places on the main street but you will pay commission. There is also an ATM on the main street.  You can probably change them in your hotel also but again you will probably pay commission.   The first time we went to Tingaki we took travellers cheques (because everybody tells you that is the safest way to take money).  The last two times we have just taken euros and sterling with us.

We returned from Tingaki on 6th June.  My son took sterling and he changed it to euros (commission free) in Kos Town and got a better rate than we did in England before we went.   Hope that helps a bit.

Hi Shirley,

To put your mind at rest there are no hills in Tingaki, its completely flat.    The Mythos Apartments are on the main road.  If you google Theokritos Travel, click the link for Tingaki you will see a map of Tingaki.  Hope this helps.

Hi Shirley,

Your welcome.  If Im not mistaken (obviously I dont know how able bodied your mum is) but I am sure I saw a place hiring wheelchairs.  I cant remember whether it was in Tingaki or Kos Town.  Perhaps somebody on here saw the place also ? Hope I havent caused offence, just thought I would mention it.  Have a wonderful holiday.  If you havent been before I can assure you, you will love it.

Hi Susan,

We arrived back from Tingaki (our 3rd visit) on 6th June and we dont think it expensive at all.  Not compared to Spain anyway ! We were averaging 50 euros a night and that was for starters for 4, 3 mains, 1 kids meal, litre of wine and soft drinks.  The meals can be as expensive or as cheap as you like.  Most of the mains are under 10 euros and kids meals are approx 3 -4 euro.  We were in Majorca last Summer and for the same meals we were averaging 80 to 100 euros per night.  Hopefully that will give you some idea.   If there is anything else you want to know let me know.

Hi Susan,

All the bars are good.  Our personal favourites were Katras on the main road and Micki's bar.  We've never had a bad meal or bad experience  This year was our third year and we have already booked to go back next year (we booked before we left this year).

Seeing as its just you and your hubby I would highly recommend a meal/night in Zia.  It is stunning.  Its cheaper to get a taxi from Tingaki and go under your own steam before the excursions arrive.  That way you get the pick of the restaurants.  Our fave is the Oromedon restaurant which is the first taverna with a rooftop terrace on your right as the taxi drops you off.

Kos Town is lovely as well.  There is an old part to it and there are tavernas there with roof top seating. If you do decide to book any trips Theokritos Travel on the main road were the best price wise.

Not too long now for you.  Have a wonderful time and if you want to know any more just ask.

Hi Mary,

I dont recall seeing a book exchange as such but if you go to Micki's bar (its owned by an Australian Guy) and is on the sea front just past the roundabout I remember seeing a lot of books there on the shelves and Im pretty sure they would let you exchange.

We returned to Tingaki this year (our third visit) at the end of May for two weeks and have already booked for next year.  Ive read all your posts and I can assure you that you will love the place.  Out of all of the places we have visited over the years Tingaki is the only place we have returned to which says it all really.  Have a wonderful time, Im sure you will.

Hi Jacqui,

This year will be our 4th year at Irina and in answer to your  question yes there is air con., at the apartments.  You pay a deposit and then so much a night (I cant remember how much off hand).  The apartments have two single beds in the main part of the apartment, the other two beds double as the seating area in the kitchen part of the apartment.  They dont pull out though.  If you look on the Irina Beach website there are photos on there of inside the accommodation, so you would be able to get a better idea of what I mean from there.

If there is anything else you want to know drop me a line at lynne6589@aol.com and I'll do my best to help.

We go back in 8 weeks and are really looking forward to it.

We have just returned today from our 4th visit to these apartments and as always Maria and Nicos were excellent hosts.  The apartments are the cleanest apartments we have ever stayed in.  If its peace and relaxation you are after with wonderful views then this is the place for you.  Nothing is too much trouble for the owners and staff.  We were made to feel very welcome as always, from our date of arrival until we left.  We will certainly be going again.  In fact, we wouldnt stay anywhere else in Tingaki.
