Re your question: Colin Johnson (April 04, 2004)
THE CAPTAINS HOTEL - KOS TOWN.
If you book with Airtours the Air Conditioning is an extra payable direct to the Hotel. Last year it cost €4 Euros a day, you mainly need it in July and August.
You can book a room privately by going to The Captains Website, but you also have to book your flight as well and sometimes it costs you more.

To the Tea Lady Staying at Captains Hotel for 1 week from 16th October.
Room facilities - They all have air conditioning at an extra cost, approx. €4 / €5 Euro's a day, and double glazing. Sorry, but it is a basic hotel and the rooms do NOT have fridges or kettles, you will have to take your travel one.
Breakfast is on the continental style.
Coffee or TEA FOR A TEA LADY
Rolls, butter, jam, ham & Cheese and hard boiled eggs.
Enjoy your holiday.

Staying at Captains Hotel for 1 week from 16th October. Always gone self catering before. Could some one please let me know what facilities there are in the rooms. Is there a fridge to keep your beer cool, is there a kettle to make yourself a cuppa.
Also what time is breakfast served.
Thanks in anticipation
Re; Jennifer Stares, in answer to your questions.
Yes Kos is still busy in September, it is a nice month to visit. The air conditioning costs about 4 Euro's a day, but it is worth it if it gets hot. The saftey deposit boxes are in reception which, to coin a phrase is SAFE.
Kardamena is about just over half an hour by car, I am not sure how long on the local bus. anyway KOS TOWN is better.
If you are staying at the Captains Hotel don't forget to go to The CARAVAN Restaurant and take a trip on The KATERINA sailing boat. If you need a hire car to go to Kardamena try M.L.RENT A CAR.
See you in Kos.
Tony Ainsworth.
THERE IS 2 OF US DUE TO GO TO KOS ON THE 11th SEPTEMBER FOR A WEEK WE ARE WANTING TO KNOW IS KOS TOWN BUSY AND IS THERE PLENTY TO DO, AND HOW FAR IS KARDIMENA, DOES THE AIR CON COST EXTRA AND IS THERE ANY SAFTEY DEPOSIT BOXES, IF YOUR OUT THERE THAT TIME SEE YOU THEN XX
THE CAPTAINS HOTEL - KOS TOWN.
Once again I have just spent a week at The Captains Hotel, thank goodness they have had the AIR CONDITIONING installed as it was very hot at night, some nights at MIDNIGHT it was 30.C.
As usual ALL the management and staff were very helpful and kind, nothing is ever too much trouble for them.
One word of warning, it is sometimes sold by the Travel Agents with a Sea View, this hotel does NOT have sea views, but it is well located being about 5/8 mins from the harbour, the same from the beach, and there are many shops, bars and restaurants in the immediate area.
Tony Ainsworth - July 2003.
Must have just missed Tony! Location was excellent for us - just a few minutes walk to the beach via The Sunburnt Arms for Breakfast!
Hotel was basic butgood. Balcony rather small and pool has limited space.Double glazing was useful! - most noise came from Mike the barman when he got stuck in the lift at about 4.00am. Tony's mentioned ML car hire - fully recommend - helpful, good cars and very reasonable.
I have just returned from my holiday in Kos, I stayed at the CAPTAINS HOTEL and I have a few comments to add.
The Hotel has had Double Glazing installed, as well as Air Conditioning.
With regard to the previous writer the CAPTAINS HOTEL is on AMERIKIS STREET which runds parallel to KANARI STREET, and is about a 5 minute walk from the Harbour and a couplr of minutes from THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT.
Staying at the Captains for 2 weeks from 1/6/03. Used to stay at the Artemis on Kanari stree which was excellent but not with Airtours this year. Can anyone give us an idea of its location say in relation to Kanari street - Sunset Tavern - or the Dolphins. Don't know Caravan but will be trying it esp after Tony's praise!
Unlike Tony Ainsworth, who is your seasoned traveller, my husband David and I have only been regulars at the Captains for five years! of which the last three we have been accompanied by Davids' sister and brother in law. In fact this year we're going twice - gluttons for nice punishment! But seriously I think he provides a fair description of what's on and available and Stephanos, Irene, Mike and staff always provide a good and friendly welcome. We have made friends with other regulars - Margaret and Grumpy! (oops George!)to name but two. We didn't think we would frequent kos as often as we do but it really is "away from it all" for us.
I have stayed at the Captains Hotel many times, it can be found at 44 Amerikis street on the Lambi side of town. It is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the harbour. The owners Stefanos & Irene are very nice people and try to ensure that everything is A1. The maids Maria and Prucia are fantastic and have been there for many years. It is only a bed & continental breakfast establishment but it does have a 24 hour bar which is looked after by Mike in the evenings. The hotel can be a little noisy from the motorbikes eyc., but a few drinks will soon sort that out. I understand that Stefanos is putting air-conditioning in this winter but I can't say for certain until I get there in May.
If you are looking for a good Restaurant you won't go far wrong by going to the Caravan Restaurant a few minutes from the hotel.
Days out - Book everthing yourself and you will save a lot of money. Car Hire, try M.L.Rent a car in Kanari Street ( Speak to Mike or Freedom, say Tony told you). Boat trips, book at the harbour and try The KATERINA for the three Island cruise, they are a great family and you will have a good day out. If you want to visit Bodrum in Turkey you are best off going on the Boat - M/V THEMISTOKLES which can be found about half way round the harbour opposite the Flamingo Bar.
There are lots of things to do. Visit the village of Zia, or the hot springs at Therma or take a trip on the local noddy train. Bye for now maybe I will see you - just ask for Tony the Hat!
my comments are in questions by mistake

Stayed in Hotel Captains a couple of years ago, they are very friendly and inviting, the place is not the Ritz but it was very clean, the maid service was very good. we stayed there in early may, there are alot of restaraunts to choose from, most very good value for money. Day trip to turkey advisable (keep your hand in your pockets though, otherwise they say come here my friend and it is dificult to get away) only buy purfume duty free, the men in the street are not selling real thing. I bought 2 pairs of earings in a turkish jewellers haggle like mad 2 pair of 18ct gold earings cost me £65, he asked for £140, the same sort here are £50 and only 9ct.
Good luck, we are planing to go back and take our son, I am sure you will love it.
We are due to stay at the Captains Hotel in Kos Town in October of this year.
If anyone has any information about the daytime excersuions (recommendations), great places to eat out at and drink I would be grateful, also what is the weather like in October.
Thanks
Julie
Staying at Captains Hotel for 2 weeks from 21st September. Can anyone give me advise on good Resaurants and bars?
