Marias is on the harbour front road and the food is greek and very good, also plenty of it. Try the sole - its lovely! Service is excellant with a brandy or such as a little thankyou afterwards, brightly lit - which can put some people off , but would def. recommend.
What can we say about Kefalos. We love it!! go each year late Sept early October for past eight years. Not for rowdies or teenagers really as they could be well disappointed. There are plenty of bars, and a one maybe two clubs, dozens of good places to eat. The best beaches are out of the main resort, catch the bus or boat which runs from the harbour to Markos, Sunny, Bubble or Paradise beaches. Great clean beaches with crystal clear water. ENJOY!!
FABULOUS WEATHER EIGHT YEARS RUNNING AT END SEPTEMBER. REALLY QUITE HOT!
WE LIKE THIS BEACH TOO - ALTHOUGH MOSTLY USE MARKOS. PROBABLY SEE YOU AROUND EARLY OCTOBER!!! WOULD YOU BE WEARING AN I LOVE KEF HAT??!!!!!
Have booked the Kalonisa this year - late Sept does anyone know whereabouts they are located in Kefalos (we know the resort well) and what they are like?? See to think they could possibly be behind Golden Fleece somewhere.
Please help .... have booked Kalonisa for Sept 02. Know the resort well but do not know this place - we think it may be behind the Golden Fleece??? Anyone know anything about these apartments?
Well situated with a three min. walk to the front where tavernas and bars are located. Good views to the sea and harbour.
Lovely place - right on the sea front, food typically Greek and service good
These appartments are lovely. Situated in a really quite (except for the cockerel who sufffered from insomnia!!!) location up towards the harbour end of the resort. Turn up past Andreas studios and it is on the left at the end, around 5 mins walk to the front. Roomy and very clean with plenty of cupboards and drawer space.
Back on 10th October from Kefalos. Weather very good indeed. Obviously Kardenama got worse weather than Kef as other than two nights (overnight) of storms and a little bit of rain on two mornings that was it - rest of the time was beach weather. Also never say a mossi and I usual tend to get bitten if they are around! Must be lucky!
If it is the one I am thinking of Hotel Evi is situated on the back road which runs parallel to the main Kefalos road. I am almost positive this is the one I have seen along here. It will only take you a couple of mins to walk thru onto the front road where all the tavernas are and the bars. The Hotel looks very nice. You will really love Kefalos - lots of place to eat and good beaches just outside of the resort, try Paradise (busy) Markos not as busy or Sunny all of these beaches are very good with safe swimming. Watch the sun though - it is really very fierce at this time of year on Kos. A friend is over there now and it is 90 degrees. So be warned.
Enjoy yourselves.
Heather
Yes you are right Irini is the owner along with her husband 'the chef' Tony. You always get a warm and friendly greeting from Irini - like old friends - which of course a lot of regular Kefalos visitors are. Food is always good, service can sometimes (as mentioned in an earlier post) be a little slow, but hey you're on holiday - what's the rush. The beauty of Kefalos is that after two days you get into theer slooowwww routine and nothing is rushed, it takes forever to get back into English rush rush mode again!!!! Try this super Taverna - you will not be disappointed
Heather
For Vaughan King
Efi Studio's are - I think?? just across the road from the Police Station. Cannot picture Roses tho sorry. Going back AGAIN!!! a week Wednesday.
Heather
Vaughan
Roses Studios are at the other end of Kefalos on the left hand side, down the hill into the resort, a few yards past the bus stop on the left is a newish pool with Dolphin pictures on the walls, Roses are nextdoor to here, above (i think) the cut price booze shop.
Hope this helps
Heather
Vaughan and Wendy - just caught me - finish work tomorrow!!!!!
As far as I can remember it is on the left hand side of the road past the (righthand) turn for Zeus. But not far from there maybe about five mins walk or less. If I am wrong will post a response when we get back.
Heather
Hi Vaughan - Wendy
Yep, was right. Roses are located where I thought. Look okay but basic, when we were there last week though the pool next door (Dolphin) was closed looked horrible and green don't know whether it is cos it is end of season or something gone wrong with the filter. Efi was located near police station at the other end of the main road.
Hope you enjoy your hols wherever you end up!
Heather
Lucy, Camel Beach is just on the outskirts of Kefalos down a very steep track.
Heather
Lynn - Merv.
Well glad that has been sorted. We wondered wehat had gone wrong in Sebastians. Would not say it was bad, but not anywhere as good as it was. Even the New Yorker has been trimmed down but still only just manageable as there is a lot on the plate. The young waitress we had was a real misery - we tried with her but received nothing but a glare and stony silence!! However, I agree - not as good as it used to be. We wondered where some of the regular guys were. We used to call the head waiter there 'Harley' as he used to ride around on a huge Harley Davison moterbike. We always thought he was Sebastian though!! Just shows you how wrong you can be!! Never made it into Players Lounge so did not see the other guy in there. Will Toni be coming back from Athens do you know or has he moved out there with his wife and family??? Looks like we were in Kef same time as you both - AGAIN!!!! 1st Oct - 15th Oct. Probably seen you around and not known, you do tend to see the same faces year after year don't you, this is our ninth trip!
Heather
Tried Scorpios this year for the first time. Although our meals were very nice I thought the service friendly but very slow, we waited 50 mins. for our salad starters and another 20 after that for our main meals which I did not find good service. Also I thought that my curry and rice at 13 euros was expensive, I honestly did not notice the price when I ordered it and felt it was not worth it. Very nice admitedly but could have got fillet steak for same price elsewhere and probably enjoyed it more
Heather
Anyone going next year to Kef - try this place and try the Prawn Saganaki as a starter - it's to die for!!
Heather
Jenny .... depends on what you are looking for really. Kefalos is not a 'nightlife' type of place, although it is there if you want it! Waht age are you and what are you looking for, we have been to Kefalos many times so will be able to give you plenty of info, just let me know what you're after
Heather
Hi Jenny, Zues is a nice Hotel with a lovely pool but is situated at the other end of the resort - there is a smashing little place called Tea for Two run by an English Couple on the main road very near to Zues, they do really good english Brekkie with proper bacon and English Sausauges etc. You will need to get the legs going to walk up to the bars which would suit your age group. There is Popeyes which is probably about a ten mins walk away. There are a couple of discos (Privilege and Siwa) along here as well but cannot comment on what they are like. The Piano Lounge is a good place too, good music and well patronised. Also you could try Sydneys Bar (they have a web site you could look at but not too sure what it is - maybe if you do a search) B52 also good. However the majority of these such as Sydneys and B52 are down the harbour end, a long walk but then again most of the good tavenas are that end too so you could mabe get a cab down and walk back.
Hope you have a great holiday - sure you will enjoy Kefalos.
Take a look at www.kefalos.com that is a fair site dedicated to just Kefalos.
Heather
colette, libra seem to have a mamouth c**k up with their brochure this year. the studios we wanted to book 'dimitri' in kefalos had a completely different picture (actual picture was of another place altogether!!!!) with the description of dimitri though.. just because you don't see the picture doesn't mean to say it is not actually in the brochure if you know what i mean. think the best bet for you would be to telephone libra direct and not go off the brochure.
hope this helps - failing that you would try and contact kefalos tours in kefalos, they may be able to help you - the libra reps name for kef is effy.
heather
John - what is Beef Stamna, not heard of this one before? Know what you mean with Irini - she's lovely.
Heather
Panthion Appts.Kefalos
We have not actually stayed at these appts. but know where abouts they are located, took a nosey trip there a couple of years ago and thought they looked very nice indeed and they have a great pool and stunnng views out to the little island of Kastri in the bay. Do you know Kefalos at all, I could let you know where they are located in distance to other places / beaches etc. - let me know if you want some tips on tavernas etc. We have visited Kefalos many times and love the place but always stay the opposite end to where you are
Heather
Yiannis are very nice I believe, we have not stayed here personally but have seen them. You are not far aways from bars, tavernas and beaches. About five mins or so walk down to the front, they are situated in a really quite spot near to the Mayflower / Peros complex, very close to a supermarket too.
Sure you will love Kefalos - we are visiting for the seventh (or 8th??) time in mid September and counting the days! If you want any more detailed information on the resort give me a shout
Heather
Have to agree on the comment below. First tried Rainbow four or five years ago and were very disappointed, very slow service and food mediocre, ......... HOWEVER, last year we tried it again (2nd chance - so to speak) and I could not fault the food, service or atmosphere of the place, we had a set meal, which we have never had before in Greece and it was excellant value for money, well recommended and we shall certainly return this year in September to try it again
Heather
Can't wait to try the New Yorker! Will certainly we returning to Sebastians this year - must admit thought something was missing last year - but the boys did work very hard and will certainly return in September
Heather
Agree it is a lovely peaceful place, however, best checking with the locals whether the army are there before taking meat etc for a BBQ.
We went along on our scooters last year and were turned away by the military as they were on tank manouveres in the area. We said we had only come to see the peacocks - to which the clever little beggar in his uniform (with gun) replied the peacocks are here but you are not - go now immediately
Well we didn't need telling twice!! Will however try again this September.
Heather
Villa Georgios is ideally situated just off the harbour road where best tavernas and bars are located. There is a good bar right at the end of the side road (2 mins away) Memories, run by Yannis and his wife - good music and giant screen for footie if you are interested. Not too near to cause a noise problem though. Villa G are only small, and typically basic Greek accomodations, but close by to a large swimming pool at the Kontessa. Five mins easy stroll will take you down to the tavernas and beach. Beach along this stretch not the best in Kefalos, but a short walk will take you to better beaches or you can catch the water taxi and go around the headland to beautiful beaches such as, Magic, Sunny, Markos, Banana and Paradise.
Anything else you want to know give me a shout, we have been returning to Kefalos for past eight years or more. Stayed at Villa G three years ago and we still see Effy (the owner - and a right character to boot) walking down to her brothers shop every evening as we sit on one of the water front bars - she always gives me a huge hug and kiss - that is if you can avoid the whiskers on her chin!!!!!
Enjoy yourselves
Heather
Last time we ate here, two years ago - had a good meal but nothing out of the ordinary, may try it again this year.
Strange thing was though that on leaving we signed the visitors book, and much to our amazement the people who had just signed it and left five mins. earlier were from two avenues away in the the same small town as us in the suburbs of Manchester and had the same surname - spooky or what!!
Heather
Kaz, we have been visiting Kefalos for eight years and the Blue Horizon is always empty, or it certainly always is when we visit in September/ October time - perhaps it's the time of year.... I don't know, but I must admit it has put us off eating in here for that one reason, never anyone in!! Shrimps Saganaki is lovely though I agree with you there - we tried it in Stop Inn and would recommend it to anyone.
Eric - as far as i know there are no 'official' nudist beaches on Kos. Although I can say that just outside of Kefalos there are several stretch where nudist tend to sunbath. Just off Markos, and Sunny etc, just keep walking away from the main crowd area and there is plenty of naturists.
Hope this helps - although cannot comment on other area of Kos - sorry
Heather
Hi Marie
Is it the one advertised as having tennis courts at the back? If so, let me know and I can let you have information you might need as we stayed there last year and going again to same place this year in September. If you booked with Libra you may find the picture with Demitris write up is NOT the picture of the apartments you are going to. Have a look at the write up and tell me what it says
Heather
For Ray Cowie - what sort of information are you after Ray - where are you staying. Been going to Kefalos for anumber of years and could possibly help you a little further
Susan - cannot picture whereabouts Estichia Apts are, however, Sure that you will like Kefalos. It is a lovely relaxing holiday destination, the beaches in resort itself are okay with safe swimming - however, for even better, lovely sandy beaches go a little further out of the resort and try ones such as Camel, Sunny, Markos, Banana etc. it is too far to walk unless you are into 'walking' but even better you can catch a short water taxi from the front in Kefalos round to these beaches for a cheap price. Some of the boats just go to Paradise beach and Bubble Beach but these are very commercialised - depends on what you are looking for. Some of these have tavernas located on them some don't. There are literally dozens and dozens of really good places to eat out at night, everyone has there own personal choices but amongst some of the better opnes to try are Sebastians, Stop Inn, Paradise, Stamatia, Argo to name just a few, these are all located down the Harbour end of the resort, plenty more at the other end too - depends upon where you are located. Plenty of good bars too, and a couple of discos for the younger ones!! We are going back in September for our ninth visit so if there is anything at all you would like to ask - feel free and I will respond best I can.
Marie. Yes - these are the same ones we stayed in last year and we are going again in September this year. I am sure you will like Dimitris Studios.
There are actually two separate blocks, one new and one older - we stayed in the newer of the two blocks last year and really loved it. Do you know the Kefalos area, have you been before? If not Demitiris is well situated on the road which runs parallel to the main road into Kefalos, in a peaceful position with fields to one side and to the rear, also a good outlook across to the bay if you are in the newer block. About five or six mins walk down to the tavernas and bars and to the beach. Cannot comment on the internal layout etc of the older block, they look okay from outside - however in the newer of the two blocks the Studios we were in were beautiful, we had an upstairs apartment. Really roomy and spotlessly clean, plenty of hanging space, the kitchen was usual basic Greek but with the added bonus of a kettle and a toaster,(which we have never had in Greece before when self catering) also a bottle of washing up liquid and tea towel, and liquid soap in the bathroom was a nice added touch. Plenty of hot water even if you get back late, we found hot water at 7 in a morning and at eight at night!! Maid service every day except Sunday. And she left things really nice and tidy and very clean. Bedding and towels changed regularly and loo rolls provided every day. Only a short walk down to the front harbour road for tavernas and bars as I mentioned earlier, there is also a little cut through directly opposite which will take you down a track onto the main road. There is a supermarket within three or four mins walk.
Highly recommended.
Anything else you want to ask about the resort (if you've never been before) just holler
Enjoy yourselves
Heather
Kokalakis Hotel is very centrally located. right at the heart of Kefalos. Captian Johns Taverna opposite, the new Galini just at the rear on the side road, just opened this year (he has moved from the top road). Marias taverna also very close by, as is Argo, Stop Inn and Stamatia - all very highly recommended and all child friendly.
You will enjoy Kefalos don't worry.
You are less than a A stones throw to the beach, although it is a bit shingly along this part, better walking down towards the Harbour where there is a small sandy bay, or the other direction where the beach is much bigger and sandy. The Kokalakis has recently been refurbished and the pool area also re-done I believe. Have not personally stayed here only seen from outside, but have read a couple of decent reviews on other forums.
Heather
Personally I would say that in September yes probably more suited to couples and families. There are however some really very good and lively bars tho' if you do decide to visit. It is really a lovely place but more of a wind down and recharge the batteries type of holiday.
Heather
Hello Amanda. The Stenna Studios are ideally located. Almost in the middle of the resort but set back off the main road so not noisy. We stayed very near to them two years ago and passed them most days. You have good views across to the sea from here as there is only a field in front. Only about a five min walk, or less, down to the beach and to the nearest bars and tavernas. Supermarket about two mins away.
September time is, I personally feel, the best time to visit Kefalos. Not too busy and the weather is usually great, around low 80's most days, can chill a little at night tho' so best taking something to cover up (if you need it). We have been going September / early October for nine years and are visiting again mid September. Jewellery shops - well, you sound like me!!! Only the one I'm afraid, on the road leading to the harbour; it is only small but they do have some nice stuff. There is a chap in the old village (which stands atop the hill overlooking Kamari (Kefalos Bay) who makes things to order, not really a shop as much as a workshop, but his prices are good. You would need to ask a local up in the village whereabouts he is as I have only been the once, located down one of the many little backs streets, he is much cheaper than down in the resort. There are not a great number of shops, just the usual touristy ones selling stuff like table cloths, beach wear and little gifts. A fair number of supermarkets though.
TV. Most of the bars have at least two TV's and they are usually on whilst any sporting event is on. You should have no trouoble at all getting to watch the Grand Prix, or footie whatever. We tend to watch stuff like that down at Marias on the Harbour Road, now I believe called manos Cocktails. They have a large screen - a medium screen and a little TV, all showing different sports or news so you should find what you are looking for.
Any other questions - just holler
Have a great holiday
Heather
You must try this place for the English breakfast. Owned and run by an English couple (proper English Sausages and Heinz beans!!!) - the food is great just what is needed to start the day!
Heather
Marie Ellison
Hi Marie
Def. no Dive Centres in Kefalos to my knowledge although a good windsurfing place about half way down the resort on the beach. They would def. be able to tell you if there are any anywhere else on Kos. There is one in Kardemena called Sun Divers, telephone no. 22420 - hope this helps and have a great holiday (leave me some sunshine won't you!!!) :) :)
For Marie Bowes
Maritsa are located the top end of Kefalos not too far from Hotel Zeus. A friend has stayed there a couple of times and he said they are basic but good accomodation.
cash point is up in the village next door to Tastys. There may be one down in the resport but not 100% sure.
Some bars stay open late - Popeyes, B52 and Sydneys to name a few, noise must be reduced at I think 11 or 11.30 though.
Hope this helps
Heather
Joanne.
This is the time of year we have been visiting Kos and we always spray a little mozzie repellant on of an evening time and a plug-in killer in the room. We have never had any trouble but out friends who go with us don't bother and have had bites the last two times. And have heard the dron eof mozzies at night in their room - so beware. It will not be a big problem and you may well be okay - but why risk it!!??
As for warmer clothing - expect really good short and bikini weather during the day, but if I were you i would take a lightweight cardi or similar type of top for evenings, just something light to pop round your shoulders will do. You may not even need it. However, sometimes the wind can be a bit chilly at night, still lovely but a bit nippy round the shoulders if you know what I mean
Enjoy yoursevles
Heather
Jamie - don't a great deal up that end of the resort, although you are not too far from popeyes, only about five mins walk, there are also some good bars along this stretch. As for shopping, only the usual tourist shops selling tee-shirts, gifts etc. And a couple of supermarkets
Enjoy yourself
Heather
Hi again Amanda
Never seen any Jelly fish in Kefalos,(perhaps we have been lucky!!) so you should be okay.
Yes I would say def. not to book with the reps for trips, much cheaper to deal with one of the tour offices in resort directly.
Three weeks and six days till we go, will make sure the sun is shining for you when you come out :) :) :)
Heather
Amanda .... Oh yes and there is a cash popint up in the village next door to Tastys Cafe. There may also be one in the repsort but not too sure, we usually take Euros and put them into the free safety deposit boxes in Kefalos Tours.
Sarah .... Sorry but no actual Italian restaurant in Kefalos to my knowledge. But you will be able to get similar style of food at Golden Fleece, they have an extensive range of pasta dishes and everything is well presented and reasonably priced. Also most of the tavernas have a decent selection of Pasta and pizzas.
Hope you enjoy Kefalos - we are out on 15th for two weeks (still very hot - 90 degrees yesterday!!).....only 9 more sleeps and we will be there ..... counting me, NEVER!! :) :)
Heather
First time we have visited Kastri in the ten years we have been visiting Kefalos. Excellant meal with very good and friendly service. I had Roasted lamb and it was the best I have tasted in a long while.
Highly recommended
Would certainly agree with these comments. A super breakfast for 2.5 and Pukka pie, chips and mushy peas with gravy for 5 euros for when you get fed up with the Greek food.
Still excellant value for money and good service. Try the sole.
Nice to see Toni back. Fantastic food and steaks to die for. Good service on the two occasions we visited.
Have visited Stop Inn at least twice during each of our ten years to Kefalos and always found it to be very good. However, this year we were all a little disappointed, starters were fine - Prawn Saganaki is still first rate,as was the other starters we had, but all of our main courses were not very good at all. And we found service slow which is most unusual. I will say in their defence however that the lights were out due to power cuts for a time and they were relying on emergency generators but a fair amount of tables seemed to be getting served before us.
This will not stop us going again though next year!
Returned Sept 29th from our tenth visit to Kefalos and not a great deal has changed. Fabulous hospitality, great food, fantastic weather and managed to get two weeks of totally chilling out.
Once again stayed at Dimitris Studios, this time in the old block, excellant location, really peaceful but within easy walking distance of all the bars and tavernas and close to a huge and really well stocked new supermarket.
had loads of super meals and sampled a good range of cocktails :) Mind you the waist-line has expanded somewhat (well, a lot if I'm honest :) :) )- oh well back to reality and back on the diet!!!
Heather
Would echo Claire's comments. Returned 29th September (our tenth visit) after two weeks in Kefalos and weather was fantastic, had a couple of days and evenings with high winds but nothing which spoilt our enjoyment - probably saw you around Claire!! where did you go evening time for a drink??
Heather
Peter. Yes I know where Sunshine Apartments are - do you know Kefalos??? I can then tell you where they are located???
Heather
For Peter re. Sunshine
If you have stayed at Mayflower then you will have seen Sunshine in that case. Walking up the road towards Mayflower from the main road, pass a little gift shop on the left.... you then immediately come to a very, very sharp bend. Turn right actually on this bend and that is Sunshine Studios - just along a little on the left down this track, they would probably overlook perhaps the back of players lounge. and with views to the sea I should think, especially from upstairs. Lovely location.
Hope this helps.
Heather
Peter - Unfortunately September is our time for Kef. So will have to forgo the beer :( :( Next year will be our 11th visit!! There are some other studios nearby which you could take a look at whilst you are there - Dimitris, they are with Libra. Very nice place and a lovely chap who owns them. Take the road on the right just before the big new Supermarket (By the way - this may be new since your last visit - has been rebuilt and is HUGE and really well stocked now - same owner though. Walk along this road (runs parallel to main road)_ for about twenty yards or so and Dimitris are the first studios on the left, Dimitris also have the second lot on the left too, an older block but the rooms are just as nice).
There are also some really nice looking apartments right behind Sunshine Studios - they look super but have no name board up. If you find out what they are whilst your in Kefalos would you be kind enough to post on here and let me know.
Enjoy yourself in June
Heather
Okay folks - know Kefalos well, but cannot picture where this place is - help please???
Thanks for that Andy, assume it is on the same block - next to Scorpios? Anyway will take a look this Sept and post comments....
Nick
Christopher
hink it is probably Four Seasons you are thinking of, but there are a fair few who do this in main season
No me neither - thought it was me!
Only went here during the evening but spent many a relaxing night there. Mostly full of locals having cake with coffee or beers.
Sorry but thought Sebastians had lost their magic this year, after vivisting at least twice every year for the past eleven yearsa we were disappointed this year.
Steve - don't know of these apartments sorry - but the weather should be fine. We have been going out to Kefalos this time of year for twelve years now and only seen rain on two occasions. You should find the temperatures around low 80's but slightly cooler at night with a bit of a breeze.
As usual - fantastic
