We checked this web site out before flying to Kos last week. Ended up hiring 4 x 4 from Trust after listening to favourable local recommendations. We found the firm to be superb in all respects (choice limited) on our particular enquiry day. 150 euro for six days was HALF THE COST of car hire through the reps - so be warned. Note that you are liable for first 200 euro of damage in non fault accident, but that is pretty standard anyway. Very friendly staff and we had a lift back to our accommodation too. Would strongly recommend Trust Car Rentals. Have been to Greece many years and this firm is by far the best we have encountered.
Just returned from a week in Pantheon. Have holidayed for many years in greek islands and have yet to find a more stunning view from an apartment. The accommodation is basic (even by greek standards) but was clean and very, very comfortable - slept superbly well. Food more than reasonable, good bar area within the complex, and the BUS!!! Old mercedes vehicle with a charm all of its own - needs to be ridden in to be appreciated!! Would consider nowhere else to stay if we returned to Kos, had a wonderful week.
Nice little coves, clear water, good snorkelling too. Picturesque drive down to the harbour. Had evening meal in the taverna and would recommend for the fish menu.
Standard greek airport, particulalry for the islands. Clean, efficient on entry, not so on departure. Normal queues for x ray machine, only to be repeated again before passport control. Reasonably clean toilets and lounge but disappointed with both size and expense nature of the duty free shop - recommend purhcases at resort for spirits, cigarrettes and perfume.
We appreciated the old and new aspects of Old Kefalos. Great to see the old guys argueing politics in old style cafenions and the younger generation doing much the same on the other side of the village! Highlights were the very likeable old woman in her 'open' house and the charming old baker who enticed us inside for cool drinks and very fattening cake - (time warp, especially the old generator cooling system to keep the place at a comfortable temperature). Also enjoyed the views and drive to and from the village (back way up and new road down).
Brilliant!!! We went to most beaches but always came back to this one. Close to home for those staying in Kefalos but well worth the drive from Kos Town based people too. Superb snorkelling around the rocky headland - only time ever to regret not having underwater camera. Great beach, good facilities, stunning sand.
Just came across this place, only way to describe it!!!! Not sign-posted or anything like that. Wonderful!! Tranquil, cooling breeze, could have stayed all day (especially for picnic)! If you leave the airport and head south for Kefalos, it is on the right hand side just as you come to the end of the airport parimeter fence and before the ' duel carriageway'.
Thoroughly recommend September to visit Kos or even Crete. Very little chance of rain (compared to say Corfu/Zante/Kefalonia). Just returned from average 27 - 30 degree daytime temps, down to around 15 - 19 degrees overnight. Never felt need to wear cardigan/jumper at all. Would Would love to see how green the island is after the spring rains. Have been to Greece in all summer/autuminal months and really do have a preference for September.
Very much enjoyed our meal at Stamatia. It was recommended by apartment neighbours and we were not disappointed. Superb location on the beach but as good as the food was, and only staying the week, we only ate there the once.
Good food. Excellent value for money and the only place we ate two nights running during our week. Irini was the consumate hostess and we would recommend this place without hesitation. Complimentary drinks were appreciated and seen as a nice way to end the meal (Stamatia should learn from this)!
Not the best of locations but well worth a visit and seemed very popular by eight pm - early by Greek standards to eat.
Liked the Wave from the moment we entered. Warm welcome and made to feel very relaxed. Better greek salad than most and the lamb melted in the mouth (cooked and served in tin foil). Full marks for the honey/greek yoghurt desert too, wonderful honey, smooth and slightly bitter. Also appreciated the complimentary drinks. Superb location right on the beech. Strongly recommended.
flight left on time and with strong tail winds, landed 45 minutes early!! too cramped on board - have never flown with such pathetic leg room (booked with thomas cook but flew with first choice).
i don't wish to sound offensive, but reps are there in case there is a problem and i usually forget their names because we only meet the once! the rep who met us at the airport was well mannered and gave clear instructions even though surrounded by holiday makers, all asking the same questions of her. found it amusing on a coach, full of adults and oaps, to be addressed as 'hello boys and girls'!!
standard talk from two young reps at kefalos following morning, comprising welcome, warnings and then all too familiar sales techniques for excursions and car hire. i know travel companies make money on such trips, and that reps are obliged to convey accordingly, but well over 100% profit above local (and very good) car hire is almost fraudulant. this web site warned us of such practices and we saved a considerable sum of money by doing our own thing.
good standard accommodation (spa**e but clean and comfortable) with probably best balcony view on the island.
return coach trip on time and helpful rep (still boys and girls!!!).
standard baggage / security queues at airport but flight left on time. cramp conditions yet again. good flight attendants but in flight meal verged on unedible (cold pizza, bland sausage, granular gravy, presume it was cheese (no taste whatsoever) with meagre biscuits, followed by sickliest pudding i have ever left! felt extremely uncomfortable for remainder of flight.
notwithstanding, we had a good value for money holiday and would return on same conditions next year (apart from upgrading leg room on aircraft and eating own prepared meal).
Exchanged pounds stirling at local accommodation (pantheon) and received 0.62 euros to the pound - so much better than UK. Plus, exchange can occur 24 hours a day from reception. Yes, there is a small charge, but hey - life's too short.
This is close to being my favourite Greek island destination.
In short; Beautiful bay location, very few 18-30 party-goers.
Totally able to veg out, not a care in the world, very peaceful, totally relaxing. Simple to shop (especially "better than Asda") and we used that store almost every day - including purchase of duty free. Would not hesitate to return - on par with the very best that certain areas of the mainland have to offer.
