Small two-storey block of 10 apartments, all with balconies and a wonderfull view of Kamari bay, 200 metre walk to the beach along a flat path. Apartments are clean, with the usual pine furniture, and fridge/sink/hob unit. 25 minutes or so walk to the harbour area, about 40 minutes up the hill to Kefalos town. Cash machine opposite, several tavernas nearby, and two supermarkets and car hire places within 5 minutes
Lovely Taverna, nice decor, located right on the beach. Great view of the bay, wonderful food, not the cheapest, but just the place for a romantic dinner for two. Good choice of both Greek dishes and pizza, pasta etc. We went towards the end of season, but it was still busy.
The arrangements went well, the rep was very helpful, and generally we had no complaints. Be warned though, the triips and car hire they try to sell you is more expensive than those you can find yourself - shop around!
Can't comment on what it's like in the evening, but we went twice during the afternoon. It's a great bar near the harbour overlooking the bay. Good range oc coaktails, plus the ususal beer & wine etc. Does a good trade as a snack bar, not surprising as quality and value are excellant.....the chicken sandwich snack was more like a small meal!
Beaches are small and claustrophobic. OK when we went in October, but probably heaving in high season. Lots of tavernas though, some on the beach. The crowds probably thin out a nit if you move along the coast to Lampi or Agios Fokas.
Nice beach with white sand and views of the bay. Less 'sardine like' than Paradise (aka "Bubble") Beach. Road to it has been carved out of the hill, it's tarmacced, but there are potholes, and sheer drops with no barriers. Not for the nervous driver (or passenger!)
Beach is nice, though in a flat area, so perhaps could be windy at times. Quiet place, not much there. Horse riding centre in the area seems quite busy.
Kamari is the wide bay below Kefalos town (mmost brocures use the town name). Beach is quite narrow with shale at the harbour end, but gets wider with better sand as you go 1km or so away from kefalos. Water is clear, and plenty of sunbeds available at reasonable cost, and not too close together. A number of tavernas and bars etc. are on the beach. Windsurfing centre in the bay seems popular.
We got back on the 18th from a weeks holiday. Generally weather very good, buty we did have one big storm on Sunday 13th, and cloud and rain the following day. It could also get windy, but temperature was still OK if you could shelter from it. Best thing was that most places were not very busy, and it was easy to get served in shops and tavernas. Also some good sale offers in shops, and cheap car hire deals.
We used the larger Trust premises about 1km from the harbour near the Oasis Supermarket and the cash machine. The people were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We hired a car for three days for €60! That was an end of season rate (usually it was €30 per day, less for longer hires). We hired a Hyundai Atos which is agreat little car, especially for narrow roads. The cars were spotless inside, no older than 3 years, well maintined, and washed outsdie when you collected them. WARNING! be wary of hiring through your tour operator, our use Avis who wanted TWICE as much as we paid, for no better cars cars or service.
Picturesque bay on opposuite side of the island to Kamari/Kefalos, about 15 minutes drive. Small harbour and quiet beach, but otherwise rocks into the sea, and some crashing waves. Romantic place to sit and watch the sunset. There are two tavernas there, though one appeared to be closed when we went (mid October). Worth visiting
Sunset is worth seeing, and the views accross the island are spectacular. However, avoid the organised "Greek nights", it's much more fun to go there by car, or bus, spend as much time as you like in Zia, and choose your own place to eat. We saw three tour buses arrive up the mountain at great speed, their customers arrived too late for the sunset, and were given no more than 30 minutes in Zia before being herded into an industrial-sized taverna half way down the road with poor views! Most Tavernas in Zia offfered better value than expected, I can't remember the name of ours, but it was the first one on the left past the cattle grid as you enter the village. It was one of two or three with unobstructed views of the sunset.
Pleasant inland town, worth spending a couple of hours in. Quite a few craft jewellers, and the usual tavernas etc. around the main square, though the village does spread out along the road. If you go there from Kardamanena, the views acccross the island are worth seeing.
Kefalos is mainly a residential town, though there are some nice tavernas, and bakery shops. Worth seeing as a contrast from the more touristy areas on Kos, it's where many of the apartment owners in the area live. The walk up the hill from the beach (about 40 minutes) is good excercise, and it's much shorter walking down the hill afterwards! If you're just in Kos for the "Blackpool with sun and cheap booze" experience you won't like it, but if you want to explore a bit it's worth going to.
Didn't stay there but we did visit there. Tidy looking place, perhaps catering for a more 'upmarket' audience than Kardamena or Kos Town. Good beaches, usual range of tourist shops and Tavernas. Ferry port for Kalymnos, so good base if you want to go there as well.
Basically an extension of Kos Town with wider less crowded beaches. Mainly seems to have larger Hotel and Apartment complexes. A good compromise location, close to the hustle and bustle of Kos Town, but far enough to get away form it if you want to.
