Just come back from an excellent week in Mastihari. For info of Jason Woods, I don't think the water park will have any effect, it is just that too far out. Stayed at the Ilios and Irini for the second time. As it has been mentioned, they have taken themselves out of the Manos brochure. But that top guy Costa will sort you out with accomodation (and flights). Angelo is away at present from these apartments. But Costa is assisted by his lovely mum and even lovelier girlfriend Dorothy. If anyone wants a high car - go and see Lisette Chatzstefani - Haartman at Fenereti Rent a Car - very nice lady and very nice prices. Excellent time had by my wife and myself. Met a german who wanted England to win the World Cup!!!
Going back now for the 3rd time, We wasn't going on holiday this year, but this place seems to draw you back year after year. I have never been one to go back to the same place, but it just shows you what a nice place this is to stay. It depends on what you want for a holiday, if you need nightlife and action packed beeches etc, Mastihari is not for you.If you want a gentle, relaxed holiday with good, cheap places to eat, then it is for you! We (Mrs & 2 kids) are staying at Illos & Irene again for the 3rd time. The Martinuzzi family are very nice and always make you welcome. They are now taking bookings seperate from Manos. We only decided to go last week, and getting flights wasn't as bad as I thought and Costa just sorted out the accomodation within a day.We are looking forward to the barbie on Sundays and all the homecooked food they offer.I hear that the waterpark is now open, I just hope it doesn't spoil the feel of Mastihari. If anyone has got any questions, feel free.
We have been going to Mastihari since 2002, our last visit being in October last year. There are no banks or ATMs there. Plenty of places to change money/traveller's cheques, and many shops and tavernas take debit or credit cards. We have never found it a problem not being able to get cash from a cashpoint. Hope this helps!
We have visited Mastihari several timesover the last 6 years and are going again in late July this year. If you want a relaxing holiday with friendle people and a laid back atmosphere this is the place for you. I must admit both my husband and I are in our 50s and not really interested in noisy nightlife! But each year we have been people have remembered us and many of the locals we now regard as friends. There are quite a few good restaurants in the village (our favourite being the Tasty Palace) and other amienities include a launderette, bakers several supermarkets of varying sizes, ferries to nearby Kalymnos, car hire(we would recommend Mastihari Travel) and buses to Kos town. The beach is sandy and has loungers for rent (E5 for 2sunbeds, an umberella and a small table per day)
We visited Mastihari this October and were surprised by the number of stray cats and kittens. There seemed a lot more than when we had been in July. Ira and Pia (who run some lovely gift shops) do a great deal to help the animals over the winter, providing food for them, and are always grateful for donations of tinned or dried cat and dog food. This can be dropped off in one of their shops. We even had a little cat who came to visit us on the beach and paddled, and another one who clambered over roof tops and balconies to see us!

Add your comment here..we visited Mastahari 2 years ago and had a fab time.we were made feel at home by our hosts at the Ilios &Irene appartments.we went with my parents and son nearly 1 at the time.would like to return but sadly cannot find these appartments in any brochures. Can anyone help us ? i long to sit and watch the beautifull sun sets and sample the excellent food available locally.HELP!!!!!!!!!..
We have lost count now, I think it is 6 years this year that we will be visiting the Ilios and Irene apts in Mastahari. Last year the whole family were in tears at the airport we just didnt want to leave our new friends made us so welcome, but we will see them again in May 2005
We have just enjoyed our 5th holiday in Mastihari and already booked for 2005. Matihari has a peaceful village atmosphere with a lovely beach and harbour. We always stay at the illios & irini apartments. You will not find hospitality anywhere like it. The owners and management cannot do enough for their guest, but don't tell your friends, because it is getting harder to book every year. Angelo & Costantino have done a great job in their first year managing the apartments, taking over from their uncle Steios was not a easy act to follow, but they did it. My motto to these people is, arrive as a guest, leave as a friend. fantastic, can't wait for next year.
Was in Mastihari June 2004 and it was fantastic, I've already booked to go back in September 2005.
The people are very friendly & the tavernas are excellent.
Very quiet, very Greek & very nice retsina,
Yamas !!
Just returned from 2 weeks at El Greco. It has been the best holiday we have ever had.The Greycat company description was spot on and ideal for us. Do visit the area on scooter-from Theo's. Wish we had done so earlier in the holiday. Marmari and Tingaki sands were more the usual touristy soft and golden but a bit boring. Mastihari has so much more charm! Katherine and Nihktas were perfect hosts. Thankyou both for a lovely time and especially for staging El Greco Olympics. Happy 40th Nihktas. Back soon!
We loved Mastihari. The beach is great and the sea is lovely and clear and the whole place is very quiet. The people in mastihari are very friendly. It isn't the place to go for a lively nightlife but we didn't want one! There are some super bars and restaurants to go to. The Traditional house is a superb restaurant for those wanting traditional food. We will definitely re-visit.
we were in mastihari at the begining of july, had a brill time, going back next year for sure, the tasty palace was by far the best restuant, and no1 bar with air con the best for a late drink
Reply for Amanda Hanson, the karantonis is not for sale. Rumour has it that Manos may move back in there next year. Try the 2005 brochure but dont get your hopes up. i currently live in there & it may stay as private rental but if you really want a great place to stay then stay with the nutty brothers next door at the ilios & Irini apts, they will look after you & your family/friends. I am currently emailing you from here with one of them looking over my shoulder. if you need anymore info about the area then log on to www.sunandpeace.com
regards mandi.
yassou to everyone who logs on to this site. i live & own Ilios & Irini apts here in mastihari. if anyone wants to contact me for bookings or any other information or to recap over those crazy pics from the bbqs then please log on to www.sunandpeace.com
Greetings to all our previous guests & welcome to all our future ones.
Ilios & Irini apartments, mastihari - come as a guest, leave as a friend!
the tasty palace was definately the best restaurant in mastihari, we have been 4 times now, great food, hot and decent portions not cold and dried up like some of the others, good prices and great cocktails
cant wait to go back, we get the apartments right next top the restuarant - cant wait to go back and see them all again
jane and houdini
Thanks for the reply caroline i am at school my mum and dad take me every year yannis texts my mum and dad very offen he is lovely
Just got back today after spending the last two wonderful weeks @ the Tasty Palace. Chris & her family & staff made us so welcome & could not do enough for us. Food & service excellent - by far the best restaurant we went to. Such a relaxing holiday & we cant wait to go back again next year
Does anyone have any information on the hotel 'Achilleas Beach' in Mastihari?
Thanks for your help Caroline..
Message to Jason Woods - Ilios and Irene are 2 blocks of apartments and are in a nice location, most of the accommodtion in Mastihari is pretty much the same basic, clean and locals are very friendly. The girls will be safe here and the beach and sea are excellent, there are boat trips out to nearby kalymnos island from Mastihari harbour where you can also flag a taxi down that come by fairly regular. Go into Kardamena by taxi 15 mins (cheap) or local bus (even cheaper), they have an abundance of trips go from here. Try Nisros (volcano that you can walk into)and then village afterwards. Or whole day trip from Kos Town to Rhodes on the Hydrofoil (take your camera).
Loads to do all over the island - try greek night at Pili. I'm sure youll all love Mastihari.
Message to Amanda. We weee in Mastihari in June, and were told by the Manos Rep (Stephan), that the elderly owner's wife had recently died, and there was some confusion / argument over her will / lack of will. Therefore, Manos have taken the Karadonis off their books this year, but will hopefully have it back next year when all the legal mess is sorted out. While we were there, the Karadonis had signs up advertising "Rooms to Let", so I think they are running it independently this season.
Been to Mastihari at least 8 times, stayed at Marika, luis and karandonis. Heard old chap very ill at karandonis and place is up for sale. Can anyone shed any light? Information gratefully received. Going out there again in August this year. Weather has never let us down with exception to 5 days of the worst Tropical Storm Mastihari has seen in 84 years. Locals were fantastic and everyone ralied round to clean up devistation afterwards.
just got back 2/7/04 Mastihari is wonderful, El Greco very good food, but you must try the Traditional House its just above El greco behind the childrens playground, Food was great. kalymnos is beautifull.
We've just arrived back in UK after 2 weeks staying at the Ilios & Irini Apartments. If all you want from a holiday is to laze on the beach during the day, followed by a meal and drinks in relaxing surroundings with the sound of the sea lapping at the shore, then look no further than Mastihari. By far the best Greek resort we've stayed in.
Just back from another great week this time staying at the Luis, after our initial problems (see Manos) everything was great. As a regular visitor I am quite sad to see that Mastihari is growing but still retains it's charm and friendly laid back manor. The best place to eat is still El Greco, the food is very good, lots of it, frienly service and not in your face. Didn't like the Tasty Palace, more exspensive, poor guality and even worse service. Try a coffee after dinner in the Horizon bar, right on the beach, fab!
We have been to Mastihari 5 times in the last 2 years. As you can see, we love, love, love it! I disagree with the comments regarding Tasty Palace....we found it to be very poor. By far the best restaurant is "Chris and Mary" otherwise known as "Taverna David". It is very humble but clean, and the Saganaki is better than El Greco's. A little further out of town (about 5 minutes walk, just past Constantino's supermarket, next to The Karadonis) is HALF TIME BAR. The pool is fantastic, the staff very friendly, the food is HUGE and very reasonable. Well worth the walk, believe me !
We liked eating at El Greco...............right on the beach. Food was delicious and staff friendly but without being right in your face. Also liked Seaside further along the beach.
Just come back on June 3rd. Went last year too going next year also. As you can gather LOVED it. Stayed at Luis apts this time and Marika studios last year great service lots of bed and towel changes (and plenty of towels) pool at the Luis is open to everyone, not big so get your free sunbeds early, but David in the little pool bar will look after you well. Our favoutrit restaurant is the Tasty Palace run by Chris and her husband, personally can say we never had a bad meal and the price is good too we went every night this year after trying others last year. If you get chance visit Kalymnos (the island opposit but don't just stay in port get a car or bike you won't be sorry it's beautiful. Hope all of you that have yet to go have a lovely time. Wish I was going with you. Any one going with Manos be careful... things kept going wrong, changing reps, over bookings and not being picked up for trips....
If you need the telephone No. for Ilios & Irene try calling Chris at the Tasty Palace restaurant
the no. is 22420 59145 (don't know code for Kos) I'm sure she would help
We had a lovely 2 weeks the beach is superb, some good restaurants and some bad the best by far El Greco, all the bars are warm and friendly but our favorite was Bar One. A visit to kos town is recommended for the architecture and the shopping. The only thing that we were not happy with was the accomodation THE IRENE,it was dirty and the maid service was practically none existant, the towels and bed linen were only changed once a week. But this did not spoil our holiday as the resort more than made up for it.Having seen quite a lot of the greek islands, the island of kos rates as one of the best.
Thanks Dee, we are flying from Birminham staying at the El Greco. We must meet up
In reply to Josie. We too are travelling to Mastihari on June 17. Best Taverna;- El Greco, very friendly and the food is excellent, best bar has got to be the Number One bar practically next door. Went with Greycat last year and couldn't fault it. Going with Manos this time 'cos we need the air conditioning! Gets very hot. You'll have a great time, hope to see you there.
We used Greycat (in May 2004) to get accommodation. Useful advice and good accommodation. Most restaurants we tried were fine. Good bus service into Kos town. Kalymnos the nearby island has a VERY noisy port. Still worth a ferry crossing though.
Traveling to Mastihari on June 17th with Greycat
Would like to know the best Tavernas, anyone else traveled with greycat?
Brilliant, relaxing, charming, quiet village that we stayed in during September 2003. Running out of adjectives !!! Very lovely clean beach, safe water, all the restaurants cater for children, great food in them all. Our 2 favourite bars were "Number One" and "Barsolino", both sold the most amazing cocktails. You will be recognised and welcomed wherever you go, as it is such a small village. Easy bus transport to Kos Town and boat trip to Kalymnos. Fabulous - can't wait to go back !!!(PS. make sure that you visit Tam Tam taverna & beach, just outside the village on route to Marmari - brill!!)
Mastihari - lovely place, nice and quiet, the beach is great, you must try the TASTY PALACE restaurant - its right on the front it really is the best, we did try a few others, but the dont come close to the Tasty Palace. Great HOT food, good prices Great cocktails
tell them Jane and Houdini sent you!!!!!!
Had a wonderful week in Mastihari. The temperature we had for the week was between 36 & 38, we were very glad of the constant breeze. The beach is peaceful and clean with lovely white sand. We plan to revisit Mastihari in a few years time and hope that although it will be more developed it will not lose its charm.
I absolutley love Mastihari!!! I am only 17 but enjoy going to Mastihari although it is one of the more quiet and relaxing areas you can straight get a taxi to Kardemena to have a good night out!You have to visit my favourite resturant El Greko!! Cant wait to go again x x x
Didn't stay there but we did visit there. Tidy looking place, perhaps catering for a more 'upmarket' audience than Kardamena or Kos Town. Good beaches, usual range of tourist shops and Tavernas. Ferry port for Kalymnos, so good base if you want to go there as well.
