What can I say about Jacks? Spot-on location, on the edge of Kamari resort, our top floor apartment had excellent views out over Kefalos bay, The best pool and poolside we have had in several Greek island holidays.
A bit of a missed opportunity, what with the position overlooking the beach. When we (mum, dad and 8 year old Oliver) arrived (about 715pm) everyone was taking a break apart from one one young son.
clearly based on an authentic earlier teverna and trading heavily on it's 'oldest taverna in kefalos' legend. almost surprisingly, all dishes are pulled off well and fresh provender p**vades. slightly let down by inattentive service which finally lead to bringing the wrong dessert.
Makes up for its (relatively) poor location with excellent cooking at cheap prices. Had the best aubergine I have ever eaten (fried eggplant starter), and then superb baked pork in orange sauce special, served with roasted and steamed vegetables. Lisa, equally excellent cheese sganaki and meatballs. Complimentary liquers to finish - a very good find.
Very accomplished cooking and lots of fish dishes on offer besides the more routine Moussaka/Kleftiko etc. The service got a bit stretched as the evening wore on due to the fact that the whole heaving resuarant was being looked after by just two friendly but overstretched staff. I would definitely recommend eating here if staying locally.

We liked Hubs and ate here three times in a fortnight. It isn't the best located taverna but makes up for it with the friendliest maitre-d we came across. The food (with the exception of a dull pink taramsalata) was consistently excellent. They have a wide range of chicken breast dishes including a number of sauces that you don't come across in other local tavernas. Lisa gave the Hungarian sauce a big thumbs up. Roasted lamb excellent. Charcoal grilled meats also excellent. Someone else said that they couldn't get a carafe of wine here but I had no problems. No Greek cofee though - just the ubiquitous Nescafe.
although the rough guide says it has fine golden sand most of camel beach is coa**e to fine pebbles and grit. the day we went the meltemi was up and sand was being blown about (mostly onto my lotioned chest and arms). it didn't seem much if any quieter than the bigger beaches further east.
AKA Paradise Beach. Take the boat from Kefalos (5Euros) or catch a bus (regular through the day at 1.3Euros to Kefalos). Too many sun loungers is the only criticism on what is otherwise an excellent beach with shallow shelving seabed and excellent sand. The bubbles are about 50M off-shore but easily accessible. There is both a snackbar and a taverna on the hill above the beach, the first is cheap and noisy and the second is expensive (relatively) but usually pretty quiet. Our favourite beach.
Excellent location and amenities but awful shingle/sand. The best sand is located close to Agios Stefanos where the beach is completely monopolised by the Club Med resort.
Magic name, magic beach. Quiet with excellent sand and sea. We went peak season and you could still walk 500M between people sunning themselves on this beach.
A bit of a walk right down close to the harbour but well worth it for the atmosphere and quality of the cooking. Old mama presides over proceedings in her typical black dress whilst the lads whirl around clearing tables and carrying plates of food. Excellent food including the ever-present cheese saganaki, crab salad, chicken souvlaki and really good lamb kleftiko, follwed by excellent yoghurt and honey. Prices very reasonable and house red wine very nice too...
Rated the oldest taverna in town by the rough guide, that accolade is claimed by Captain Johns next door. Stamatia has an enormous menu set up on a giant board outside. It is excellently located by the sea. Unfortunately the quality of the cooking was a bit disappointing for us. It also felt a bit impersonal compared to other places. Perhaps we just had a bad experience because it certainly kept busy enough during our fortnight in the resort.
