Having read some of the reports on here I was concerned about what we were going to at Lydia II. Here are my findings.
Our Room - We arrived in the middle of the night and although we had booked Lydia II, found that we had been given an apartment in the Lydia 1 block.
First impressions were that the aparment was large, clean & tidy and better than I expected. 2 single beds, breakfast bar, microwave, fridge, 2 ring cooker, air-con & tv.
Shower was excellent every night, plenty hot water even around 7/8 at night. Room had air conditioning but had to pay a 10Euro deposit for controller and then 40Cents per hour. Didn't even use up 10 Euros worth over a fortnight.
Cleanliness - The maid we had was always very pleasant although she didn't speak english she always said hello and had a smile for us. Although rooms are not cleaned and towels changed every day we found it to be adequate. It doesn't take much to keep your room tidy anyway.
Security - I'd read reports of break ins and problems with security. There are no safety deposits boxes in the apartments, however 50 yards away you can get free deposit boxes at Lukas car hire if you are a Lydia resident. It's common sense to make use of these and at night ensure your doors are locked. No problem. I did not find security an issue, although on our last day I thought someone tried our door in the morning. But our door was locked anyway. You wouldn't leave your door unlocked at home. So why do it on holiday.
Pool & bar area - The pool was a nice size, plenty of free sunbeds and the bar staff (Hi Katerina) were all very pleasant and helpful. Bar snacks were very good value and ideal for a light bite. 1.50E for a bottle of zorbas (nice), 60Cents for water, 2.50E for a toastie to give a few of examples of prices.
Location - Lydia is about 4 streets back from the waterfront and almost central. Kardamena is a small resort and we regularly walked from one end to other. supermarket situated next door and a bakery 30 yards away. 2 mins walk and you are into all the bars and restaurants you could want.
I would have no problem going back to Lydia in the future. So have a good holiday if you are going there.
Were were invited in via the back entrance to the Aussie bar by a tout. Offered special deal on drink etc which didn't materialise when we arrived.
The bar area itself stank of stale beer. We sat outside and were greeted by a battle of the sounds between Aussie bar and Crackers with each bar trying to be louder than the other. Our table ended up crawling with ants. The bar itself had around 8 people in it.
We quickly finished up and moved on.
Next day we found that the bar is more commonly known as the Mozzie bar. mmm wonder why :)
Dropped in one afternoon to get out of the heat and was charged 7.50 Euros for an Amstel and a fresh orange. When I queried the barman and suggested it was rather expensive he just shrugged his shoulders.
was paying around 4.50 elsewhere.
I wouldn't recommend this bar, the resort was quiet and there are plenty good places crying out for your custom.
Beaches - Poor, isn't really a decent one unless you want to leave the town.
Restaurants - Aramis & Camelot 2 of the best. Avli was poor and expensive.
Bars - Buddies is a rip off. Aussie bar (Mozzie Bar) stank of stale beer. Skyline great for cocktails and nice waitress.
Trips - Nisyros well worth a day trip.
Hated not being able to walk past a restaurant and bar without being asked to come in. Resort was very quiet I thought with many bars and restaurants with only a handful of people in, so I suppose the were desperate to pull in anyone they could.
