Walking distance from the Dolphin roundabout is 25-30 mins on foot, add another 10-15 mins to get to bar street. Some of the views from Dimitris overlook wasteland and building site waste is everywhere. Watch out for the most of the accom which faces the farm, cockerels, goats and dogs can be making noise very early and very late, I'd recommend ear plug as we had to sleep with the patio door open as it was too hot and therefore endure the barrage of animal noise. We had quite a few problems with the level of service, we reported a broken lav seat on the first day and nothing was done about it (despite 4 requests, 3 to the staff/owners and 1 to our rep) and nothing was done about it, so it required much skill to stay on the lav. Not what I want after forking out £371 for a week! There were also duff light bulbs which weren't replaced, and as the rooms were poorly lit anyway, didn't help matters. Bins were sometimes missed by the cleaners, and we had to keep reminding them to empty the waste bin from the bathroom, which contained soiled toilet paper as Greek plumbing doesn't allow anything other than human waste to pass through it! The floors throughout were filthy, and I had quite a thick layer of dust on my feet after walking from my bed to the patio! In fact, I thought the level of cleanliness in our room was shameful, and I aint house proud! The walls were smeared with greasy fingerprints and there were spills and stains on all surfaces. Beware of the claim of 24 hour bar as you'll have to wake the person that staffs it as she sleeps on the sofa in the lounge!? Don't request an extra pillow as I did did for my friend who been bitten on the feet and ankles and the Doctor we consulted suggested that raising the feet with the use of a pillow would reduce swelling (as my friend couldn't walk). Anyway, ask for another pillow and it will probably take the best part of a week to get it to you and it will have been used by the personnel manning the bar and any one else that needs to lay their head down! Overall, I'd say that Dimtris is a sloppily run apartment and wouldn't recommend them if bribed with cash! I'd suggest staying in a place closer to Kos Town, as there looked like there are some decent places available, plus, you won't be too far from the centre. This hasn't marred my view of Kos, as overall, I'd say it's a vibrant, interesting place to stay, just be cautious and do plenty of research into getting the best accommodation.
This was the best place to go to before Bar Street and they serve the best cocktails, as you actually get decent measures, unlike many other places! The average to pay for a cocktail is 6 Euros, which equates to £3.60-70, they are pricey, but at BB, you know you've had a decent, strong cocktail. There are incentives of free shots if you drink here, so it's worth it. Irish girl Natalie was wonderful and very chatty and freindly, and Panos was a good chap, as were all the bar staff and waitresses, highly recommended. Plus, good view of the harbour!
This place was ok, although the cocktails were overpiced (6 Euros) and you'd be given a 'free' shot, which wasn't really free as most places offered 2 cocktails for 6 Euros!
Rubbish! Just well over priced, probably the priciest places we visited and full of poseurs who fancied themselves, the UK equivalent of Casa!
Not bad, 2 cocktails/long drinks for the price of one, and you'll probably get lured there with the incentive of a free drink, which I don't think contains any trace of alcohol! Quite a few posing blokes that work here who seem to get a little restless if you chat to the female clientele or staff, I think that cause they're territorial as they're trying to get their mitts into the ladies! Ignore that and chat to the ladies anyway.
Don't be expecting any authenticity here, the bar bears no resemblance to any Irish bar you will have ever visited! The music is Eurotrash pop and very camp. The bar staff outside love themselves and the only redeeming fewature is they sold Guinness (same price as UK)and gave you a proper free shot of Sambuca. What out for one of the Greek bar staff dancing like a fairy, it's very funny, and avoid the idiot dancing in an Imp costume outside, I almost fecking lamped him several times! My best memory was overhearing a group of Irish men muttering 'Fecking farcicial, feckin' farcical' at the dancing Irish stereotype! Hi to David and Dougie.
What made this lace good was that we met some good people, we chatted to 3 Irish Teachers who were very down to earth, a quality which doesn't relly exist down Bar Street! There was also Kalle and Jukka, the 2 Finnish Masters students who were incredibly funny people. Geogina, the Irish waitress was also a gem, very warm and funny. One of our favourite places, and they ebe==ven manages to play some Nirvana in plave of camp Euro pop trash!
The castle has obviously undergone a lot of re-building, but seems to have maintained a degree of character. There are some great views from the castle walls and good views of the sea and harbour. It's very cheap to get in (3 Euros), so well worth half an hour of your time.
Oh dear, on our outbound journey, we queued outside for an hour, in the early hours of the morning with hundreds, maybe thousands of other eople, it was mayhem. Inside was even worse as delays meant people were strewn all over and the temperature was shocking! There seemed to be little, or no one in charge, or responsible for the total disarray. There was no sense of urgency, or organisation and litter cleaners were actually impeding people’s progress when they were getting in the way of folk checking their bags in! I thought cleaning took place to cause minimum disruption, not to delay people? Bizarre! It was pure anarchy, the worst airport experience I've ever had and security, with the exception of scanners, was slack, people being allowed to got through security scanners, setting them off and not being checked?! What's the point of that? Makes me realise that the UK aint so bad after all!
The altar of Dionysius and The Old Agora (in the town center facing bar street area) excellent, I spent quite a lot of time at The Agora (3rd Century BC). If you like ancient ruins, this is worth investigation. Look out for all the feral cats that are being looked after by the chap at The Agora, five him a donation as he has 60 strays to look after and most of them are in a bad way.

Upon arriving at Kos airport, we had to wait an hour for our coach, for whatever reason, as I was so tired I couldn’t be bothered to pursue it, as an explanation wasn't given. I'd been traveling since 7pm, so was just ready to get to bed, which I eventually did at 7am! As someone else has pointed out, 7 nights, means 6 nights as we arrived Sunday morning 7am and had to be out by the following Saturday at 5pm! A bit of a scam I think, as we had to pay another 15 Euros just to stay in the apartment till 8pm on the Saturday night! Our rep didn't act on our complaint about the broken seat and we just couldn't pretend to be fake and go on the days out when we weren't even being represented in a professional manner. I think Kosmar are sloppy, as Thomas Cook operative that we booked through kept saying that Kosmar no longer provided them with the details that they used to, no pictures of the accom and little info about the accom!? Never again for me, a second rate organisation.
I think that eveyone is entitled to their own opinion and we should bear in mind that we don't all have the same experiences, so everyone's views are valid, not just Jamie and Amanda Hewsons. I made my comments in 2004 and maybe things have improved at Dmitris Studios, I'd certainly hope so.
I still stand by what I wrote in 2004, the place was dirty and we did get bad service, I feel stronger about that now (especially after I've just come back from a trip to India, where I stayed in Kerala and Delhi and had a great time). What we should also bear in mind is whilst we all have different experiences, we all have different standards and the standard at Dmitris wasn't good, but to be fair, it may have improved. I'd urge anyone looking at staying here to make enquiries and research it thoroughly before making any quick decisions as it could be an expensive mistake and lets face it, no-one wants to waste money by having a disappointing holiday.
