just got back from a week in Tingaki, first time visit to Kos, stayed at the Ilios Hotel, lovely place situated just around the corner from the bar street. The hotel looked excellent for kids, with 2 pools dedicated to children and a kids club. As a couple we found it excellent too, 2 adult pools and a jaccuzi (although the latter had a definate lack of bubbles!) Moped/Car hire is a must, we had a fab time touring the island and got to see all the sites without having to pay excursion costs. Places we found the best were:- Zia, gorgeous view of the sunset and a very pretty little village. Thermes, u gotta take a dip in the hot spa there. Paradise beach, fab water sports. Hippocrates hospital (think it's called 'Asklepion') Tingaki itself is a lovely place, not too busy, but there are a few lively pubs on the street leading down to the beach. Some nice places in Kos town to visit, and most of the nightlife is there. We're gonna have to go back sometime coz we missed out on the naturist beach!!!
Fab place to go, we got in at the edge of the spa first and thought 'what's all the fuss about?', then as we moved towards the centre we realized why,,,HOT,,,it got so hot at times we had to move back out to the edge, there's quite a strong smell of sulphur when u first get in, but you soon get used to it, there's also little bubbles in places that spring up from the pebbles below. Be careful if u drive there, we looked at the map first and saw it was at the end of the road, and that couldn't be more true, the road just stops, you should turn off at the little roadside cafe on the left and down a dusty track b4 the end of the road. Well worth a visit.
If u just want a crossing to Turkey the cheapest way we found was on one of the 'flying dolphins' (I think they have 2 boats),only takes 20 mins. Be careful if u decide to stand on the open deck in the middle of the boat as u r likely to get soaked (as we did-but soon dried off in the heat)the return trip Dep:10a.m. Ret:5p.m. costs 15 Euros. When we got to Bodrum harbour a fight broke out between the boat crews, and our return was delayed by about an hour and a half, but apart from that the trip was good. Found Turkey to be very hot and humid. There's 2 Turkish baths near the harbour, a camel ride along the harbour, and there's an open bazaar on Sundays and Tuesdays.
to:Albert,, Just follow the main road out of Kos town heading south,,it is literally at the end of that main road,,just keep going until the road comes to an end, there's a little cafe/hut on the side of the road on the left, that's where u need to turn off and down a little track. Thermes is on the southeast part of the island.
