my partner, mother-in-law and i stayed at the sunset apartments for the 1st week in may. we were pleasantly suprised at the spacious apartment, the location was great and the people were very friendly. to get to the beach from the sunset you pass all the little tavernas, restaurants and gift shops so you can have a leisurely browse while you walk to your lazy day on the beach. one little tip is to sample the breakfasts down the main street first as we found the hotel breakfast a litle spa**e. all in all though a lovely hotel.
I feel a bit naughty giving bubble beach such a bad score as we didn't even manage to get there! However just a word of warning to anyone travelling to Kos in late April, check first that the beach is open. We spoke to a tour operator who was organising a tour to bubble beach, we left our details but they never got back to us, someone told us a bus went there so we waited for it but it didn't turn up, I then asked a Thomas Cook Rep who phoned the head office and we were finally informed that Bubble Beach was closed and infact had Bulldozers on it due to weather damage from the bad winter. So please be advised to double check that the beach is actually open before organising your day.
We arrived in Kos 30th April 2003, the weather was beautiful for the whole week. Be very careful of the breeze though as it gives you the impression that the suns not that hot and as a result my Partner ended up with sunstroke. The is only one real down point to coming to Kos so early on in the season and that is the majority of the trips are not yet running due to the lack of demand. We discovered that most of the trips actually start the 2nd week in May. I would say that early May is an ideal time for young children as it's not too hot or busy.
We thought the Castle was wonderful, it really gives you an insight into the history of Kos. We went in April, the weather was perfect the bus there from Tingaki was not too busy and most of the flowers were in bloom, the castle grounds were covered in a beautiful sunny yellow flower we were told was called the Mai Flower. This trip is not really for Kids as there are quite a few steep steps and sheer drops!! But I think most adults would enjoy it.
What a beautiful and friendly place. The main street was enchanting, just wandering down, looking into the little shops, tavernas and restaurants. Everyone was so friendly, will definitly go back if I get the chance.
We must've had an off night but we didn't think much to this restaurant, the portions were quite small and we didn't find the staff very enthusiastic, the price was more or less the same as everywhere else but I don't think it was completely worth it. So sorry, perhaps next time we visit we might have a better evening.
Our operator was Thomas Cook/JMC, the girls were perfectly pleasant although I think most people get abit fed up with the usual speil they have to spout. It's nothing against them but it is so annoying when you've been travelling for god knows how many hours to get on another bus to go to the hotel and someone shouts over the microphone 'IS EVERYBODY OKAY, SAY YEAH!!' as if we're a bunch of kids on a school trip, it's very frustrating as I'm sure they would soon know if people had a problem with something. We also asked questions like how long is the island and how much admission is to some attractions and they didn't know the answers to what we thought were simple questions. I'll say again they were very pleasant but subject knowledge was slightly poor.
