The Sailing Boat KATERINA - KOS HARBOUR.
After about 6.00.pm in the evening and before 9.30.am the KATERINA is situated about halfway along the Harbour in KOS TOWN opposite the FLAMINGO BAR. It does the 3 Island Tour in the daytime from about 10.00.am until 6.00.pm. I can't tell you the exact price as it varies year to year but it is about €20/25. Euros or £15/17 for adults, children are less and it icludes the trip plus lunch and a few small snacks on board.
The KATERINA is a family run boat, There is GEORGE ( The Captain ) his wife KATERINA,(Hence the name of the Boat) their two children SYLVIA & KOSTAS, sometimes their grandparents SYLVIA & PETER, and a couple of crew members. They are very friendly and nice people and will do their best to ensure that you enjoy yourselves. Over the years have become very good friends of mine.
It leaves The Harbour in KOS TOWN at about 10.00.am and the first stop is a small Island named PSERIMOS where it stays for about 1 hour, it has a very sandy beach and is ideal for children. The next stop is KALYMNOS, known as the sponge Island. After arrival in Kalymnos they take you to the sponge factory where they give you a brief talk about sponges and then you have time to purchase some if you want to, there is NO pressure to do so but the sponges are very good. ( This tour lasts about 15.minutes ) then it is off to a local taverna for lunch, you get a small greek salad, a main course (Choice of 5 dishes) and a fresh fruit like on Orange or Apple. After luch you get about 1 hour to look around the Port of PORTHIA and then back to the boat and the next stop is PLATTI where the KATERINA drops anchor and you can go snorkeling or swimming. Back on the boat for a refreshing piece of melon. Then it is up with the sails and back to KOS town. If you are very lucky you may even see the Dolphins, about a 10/15% chance.
There is plenty of room to sunbathe on the sunbeds on the boat, and they have a bar which sells drinks at very reasonable prices. It is a GOOD trip and many people go more than once, so do go EARLY in your holiday. Don't forget the Tour Operators DO NOT do this trip, and if you decide to go on other Trips, check out the local price first as the Tour Operators charge a LOT more.
Have fun in KOS - TONY KATERINA.
We enjoyed our visit to THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT in Kos Town, I agree with most of the other comments on this site that the food is excellent, and the owner HASSAN is a great guy who works his socks off. And I can only add that looking at the number of people who seem to go to THE CARAVAN, it's no wonder that you have to wait a little to get served. Now for a tip, if you want a quick meal
arrive before 8.30.pm.
I enjoyed my trip on THE KATERINA, we visited PSERIMOS, KALYMNOS & PLATTI. We had a very nice lunch at a Taverna in Kalymnos, the owner Yiannis was a good laugh. The day was very relaxing and as a bonus we saw the dolphins. I am going again this May and the trip on the KATERINA is definitely on the cards as it is too good to miss.
M.L.RENT A CAR was very good value for money. You can rent an air conditioned ATOS for approx £14.00. per day including all taxes and insurance.
The owners name is MIKE and he has a lovely wife who's name is ELERFARIA. They also operate a Bureau de Change and their rates are very good. I was staying at the Sophia Beach and met a guy named Tony who told us about it..... thanks.
THE BOAT ON THE BEACH TAVERNA - TIGAKI
It can be found about half way along coast road from KOS TOWN ( LAMBI ) to TIGAKI, you will see a WHITE BOAT on the land near the sea on your right hand side. Take a RIGHT turn opposite an ARMY post, it is a a dirt track, and when you reach the beach, take a left and you will find it, (it is only 5 mins from the main road ).
It is run by Koni and her family. Very relaxing - great sunsets.
