I am going to Kefalos on my own in July, What the local people like, and where are the best places to eat and drink ! thanks

Heather W

hink it is probably Four Seasons you are thinking of, but there are a fair few who do this in main season

Majik .

what is the name of THe BBQ on the beach in kefalos ?

Dimitris is great.   Two block, have stayed in both.  One is much newer than the other two.  Both have little extras such as kettles and toasters.  They are kept very clean and well maintained.
Dimitris is a great guy too - studios are only about a eight mins walk (perhaps less)  down to the tavernas and there is a supermarket just three mins away, very large and well stocked.
Any other questions please give me a shout!  ENJOY

Wonderful.  Great shops.  Great bars for families and the single alike.  Quiet and peaceful.  Can't complain about anything.

Peter K

Christopher,

Demitris stds located on back road of the resort.2 blocks of apts. 1 newer than other. From reports I've seen about them typical basic apts. possibly with kettle for all important wake up brews.SmileThere are a few reports on them in this section. We're staying in them 1st. 2 weeks June.So if your going later in year will post better description on return. We've been to Kefalos before so below is some help on where apts are located if you've not been before.Hope it make some sense.Confused
Access to apts from main resort road up a narrow road past a gift shop called Babis In.then turn right down another lane by side of lemon grove near large supermarket and apts on left about 150 meters.
A short cut from apts. to main resort road can be found by turning right out of apts and about 20meters down road on left follow dirt track this will bring you to a 'bridge' duck under and carry on down to beach or upsteps to road and bars and tavernas left and right. Will need torch at nite if you use this way.Ouch
Best way to main bar/taverna area is past Babis in route then straight across main road to roundabout and the harbour road bar/taverna area.

Christopher B

any information on the demitris studios?????

Yes loads, starting from up your end and working down toward the Harbour there a literally dozens of places to eat. some better than others, not far from you, well more or less behind your apartments are Chrysoula Apartments, they have a HUGE pool, which we can recommend, they do not charge for the sunbeds but do expect you to use their facilities for drinks or something to eat. Be warned however the water is b**** cold.  They do a really mean Chip Butty if you fancy something like that for lunch one day, (that is if you get a bit sick of Greek food) these are lovely washed down with a cold Mythos beer
There is also a little English place just along the main road from you called T42, do a good English Breakfast. That is about five mins from where you are staying.  For more Greek places, which we prefer for evenings, you could try Kastri on the left facing onto the beach - super food and very Greek.  Rainbow,  Four Seasons or Hippocrates (opposite Four Seasons), Opa Opa is a nice Bar, Blue Moon also.  Melody Bar even further up the road is good too.
There is an Aussie Steak House about half way up the road on the right - not tried this for a couple of years as we had a bad meal once, but have heard good reviews since then.
Further down toward the harbour, Argo, Marias on the harbour road, this Taverna we like, very brightly lit, which I would say could spoilt it, however the service and food are good.  Stop Inn, again on the harbour road, just set back behind Marias, always popular and you get a lovely warm welcome from Irini the owner.  Sebastians  - a must for a great steak, again always very popular.  And even further down, almost at the harbour is Golden Fleece.  all of these I could safely recommend, some better than others, and there are litterly loads I have missed out, not because there is anything wrong with them, just too many to mention.  Be aware though, if you do venture as far down as Golden Fleece you have a LONGGGGGGGGG walk back!  But as you say, may not feel it too much after a few bevvies.

Have a great time
Heather

Thank you for the information its really useful, we are going to Kefalos the last two weeks in June so it should be warming up by then. The 1/2 hour walk won't be a problem, it will be easier going back after a few drinks! The apartments sound ok, like you say as long as they are clean and comforatable that's the main thing. Could you recommend some places to eat, drink and places to visit on the island as this is the first time we have been to Kos, you must really like Kefalos as this year it's your eleveth visit. We have been to several Greek islands before and are looking forward to this one so hopefully if everything goes well we will be returning year after year

Many thanks Nick  Smile

Nick - Maritsa

Nick, The Marista Studios are situated up at the top end of Kefalos, (that is - the opposite end to the harbour), situated just slightly back from the main road, almost next-door to Manolis Studios which has with a small but adequate pool.and snack bar.  You are a fair walk to most of the decent tavernas and bars, but there are some within easy walking distance.  It would probably take you about 1/2 hour to walk down to the harbour road where most of the bars and taverans are located.   Kefalos is really one long resort - stretching for about two miles or more with tavernas and a few bars sitated both sides all along. also with studios etc. situated along this main road, and with lots of them off small side roads/tracks which branch off the main drag.  Some are situated in rural areas, very peaceful, others in busy areas.  Maritsa, as I say, is up the top end, just on the right as you drop down into the resort.  Looks okay, although we have not stayed there personally a friend of our did twice and said the rooms were very basic but clean and comfortable, which is all you need really.  You will be spoilt for places to eat in resort, loads of really good spots.  We are off for our eleveth (?) visit in September -  so if you want more detailed information or restaurant recom's - places to see etc. etc.  let me know.  You have picked a really good place though      , when is it you visit?.   This pici. is very close to where you are, in fact, upstairs rooms will probably have a similar outlook......  Enjoy!

Hanna L

Kefalos was the most amazing place in the world i went there for my first holiday away with my boyfriend it was perfect as it was quiet but not too quiet and very romantic they have fantastic beaches restaurants bars and everything. If you like heavy night life its just a coach journey away to Kos Town etc which has very good night life i could talk for hours about Kos its that amazing especially Kefalos any questions just email me hanna_larkin@hotmail.com.

Nick C

We are staying at the Maritsa Studios in June, could anyone give us any information on the apartments and the resort as this is the first time we are visiting Kefalos

Nick

Heather W

Peter - Unfortunately September is our time for Kef. So will have to forgo the beer :( :( Next year will be our 11th visit!! There are some other studios nearby which you could take a look at whilst you are there - Dimitris, they are with Libra. Very nice place and a lovely chap who owns them. Take the road on the right just before the big new Supermarket (By the way - this may be new since your last visit - has been rebuilt and is HUGE and really well stocked now - same owner though. Walk along this road (runs parallel to main road)_ for about twenty yards or so and Dimitris are the first studios on the left, Dimitris also have the second lot on the left too, an older block but the rooms are just as nice).

There are also some really nice looking apartments right behind Sunshine Studios - they look super but have no name board up. If you find out what they are whilst your in Kefalos would you be kind enough to post on here and let me know.

Enjoy yourself in June
Heather

Peter K

HEATHER,
THANK'S FOR DIRECTIONS. KNOW WHERE THEY ARE NOW. LOOKED AT THEM ON WAY BACK TO MAYFLOWER APTS.WHEN WE STAYED THERE BUT NO NAME ON BUILDING OR REPS BOARD SO DIDN'T REALISE IT WAS SUNSHINE APTS. LITTLE GIFT SHOP IS CALLED "BABIS IN" WHO WE KNOW.
WILL BE AT THESE APTS. IN JUNE '05 SO IF WE BUMP INTO YOU IN RESORT WILL BUY YOU LARGE OUZO AS A THANK YOU.(THAT'S IF YOU LIKE OUZO,IF NOT LARGE MYTHOS.)

Heather W

For Peter re. Sunshine
If you have stayed at Mayflower then you will have seen Sunshine in that case. Walking up the road towards Mayflower from the main road, pass a little gift shop on the left.... you then immediately come to a very, very sharp bend. Turn right actually on this bend and that is Sunshine Studios - just along a little on the left down this track, they would probably overlook perhaps the back of players lounge. and with views to the sea I should think, especially from upstairs. Lovely location.
Hope this helps.
Heather

Sally B

Hello everyone! i went to Kefalos 3rd July for 1 week. Just wondered if anyone on here came the same week? it was a small place and i got to know quite a few people. spent my nights in Bar Sydney and Kos or Kardamena. Really want to go again! might do next july. cya!

Kayleigh H

I went to Kefalos in August, we stayed in Stamatia Studios and I have to say it was the best holiday I have ever been on, and that's saying something! The apartments were basic but to a good standard, there was a small kitchenette, a small bathroom with a shower, the main room just had 3 beds and a balcony. The view is nothing to shout about from the balcony but as you come out there's a lovely view to the sea. Stamatia doesn't have it's own pool so we used the pool at Antony's, it is well maintained, with a lovely bar that offers all sorts of food and Peter, the guy who runs it is really friendly! There are plenty of restaurants to choose from all along the harbour, I won't name any because I think they're all good. At night I think the best bar to go to is the Mythos Bar, it's a lovely place with a great atmosphere, Elias, the bar man is really friendly and will talk and banter with you all night. There is music on until 12 then music in all bar's finishes by law so all the clubs cn have their music on! They have a good range of beers, wines, alcopops and cocktail's, I suggest the Sex On The Beach, Sexy Greek and Kiss Me, they're the best ones (I should know, I tried them all)! Another good bar to try is Sydney's Bar, one night we went and there was a 70's night, they had things for people to dress up in and all the bar staff were dressed up and they had a karaoke night which was brilliant, great atmosphere! The drinks are quite expensive so I suggest the pint of Vodka and Red Bull for 6 euros. The weather was great, it was just right because you have the sea breeze as well. I can't recommend andy of the excursions as I didn't go on any, I was by the pool during the day then at the Mythos Bar at night. The shopping is good, there are many supermarkets, the best was probably the 'Better then Asda' shop near the harbour! Overall an excellent place to go and I highly reccommend it!

Heather W

Returned Sept 29th from our tenth visit to Kefalos and not a great deal has changed. Fabulous hospitality, great food, fantastic weather and managed to get two weeks of totally chilling out.
Once again stayed at Dimitris Studios, this time in the old block, excellant location, really peaceful but within easy walking distance of all the bars and tavernas and close to a huge and really well stocked new supermarket.

had loads of super meals and sampled a good range of cocktails :) Mind you the waist-line has expanded somewhat (well, a lot if I'm honest :) :) )- oh well back to reality and back on the diet!!!

Heather

Katie M

I loved kefalos my family and I stayed in i think the pantheon.the people that worled there were soooooooo kind and helpful!!! defenetly go again!! recomended highly

Monty M

This is close to being my favourite Greek island destination.
In short; Beautiful bay location, very few 18-30 party-goers.
Totally able to veg out, not a care in the world, very peaceful, totally relaxing. Simple to shop (especially "better than Asda") and we used that store almost every day - including purchase of duty free. Would not hesitate to return - on par with the very best that certain areas of the mainland have to offer.

Wendy H

Dear Shirley,
We were married in Kefalos in July of this year. We had a great time and people are so friendly and helpful. We couldn't have done it without the help of Yiannis from Charalambos Apartments, he was great.
There is more red tape over here than over there. If you would like to e-mail me I will give you all the names and addresses of the people you need to contact. I'm on wlahill@yahoo.co.uk

Shirley M

I have been coming to Kefalos in Kos for about 14 years now, and know someone who would like to get married in Kefalos. Any help

Martin & esther S

This is a great resort with plenty to do and enough places to eat out at a different place every night, if that’s what you want. The beach is no the best for sand but does have sandy stretches and beautiful crystal clear water. All the staff at shops and restaurants were so friendly and happy that our daughter asked us why! We popped into a store for a box of matches and the owner saw my daughter’s badge saying she was ‘7 today’. In a spontaneous gesture she offered her a free lolly, and also gave one to our 3 year old so she didn’t feel left out! We left with the shop owner having given us more than we had given her (the matches only cost 30 cents!), and this in so many ways summed up the generous nature of the people in this resort for us. Similar acts of kindness were shown to us throughout our stay in Kefalos – people giving something for nothing, which is so rare to see these days.
For accommodation, we can highly recommend the Hotel Zeus where we stayed.
If you hire a car, this makes a great base from which to explore the whole Island. Trust Car Rental will sort you out. Eat at any one of Stamatia, Stop In, Sebastian’s, or Santa Barbara and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Carol M

If you are looking for a holiday.with good food very clean apartments.and a family full of fun. warm and welcoming book now at harry's restuarant charalampos apartments.Ive travelled all over greece mainland and the islands for 15 years and this is definetly the best place to go we had 2 weeks there in august excellent.didnt want to come home if you like a relaxing holiday then this is the place to go to.

Carol M

we went to kefalos aug 2004 every thing was fantastic. hired a quad bike and went up the mountains great photo's and very peaceful

Toya R

Excellent resort and one which we would visit again. We were based at the harbour end of the resort, we take take a walk to the other end but preferred our end. People friendly and everything reasonably priced, beach there is a little bit stony but good and you could always take the speedboat over the Bubble/Paradise beach for the day. it cost 5 Euros for a day return picking you up at 10.30 and bringing you back at 17.30, well worth doing.

Jamie N

Hi, im going to Kefalos in the hotel Kordistos next week, and wondering where the night clubs/good bars are ?? any help please ?? thank you
kind regards

K B

We stayed in Kos Town (which was lovely), but drove to Kefalos in the car that we hired. It was Sunday and was VERY quiet. Didn't seem to be anyone about apart from lots of old Greek me. It was a very Greek town - walked around nice little back streets. Nice views as you are driving in to Kefalos.

Chris

We have just returned from Kefalos in Kos with my two daughters & 5 year old grandson. Kefalos is a nice quiet peaceful resort with plenty of restaurants & bars. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday there is just enough to choose from without being overwhelmed. The two I can recommend are 'Sebastians' & 'Maria's' both on the front. I prefer beaches to pools, I didn't think much of the Kefalos beach as it was very shingly & stony. However, it was very clean & the water was beautiful. The pool we used was the 'Mayflower' complex. (Set back off the road)Which was very frindly & clean. Dimetre in the pool bar was very friendly and the food was good too. There were not many shops in Kefalos, but enough to buy a few small souveniers & momentos. There is a nice jewellers called Traditional, in which I treated myself to a small gift.:)
I liked it so much I am going back at the end of September with a friend this time. We will also stay in the same apartments.

Wendy H

Marie Bowes,
Don't know if I'm too late, only just seen your enquiry. We always stay at Charalambos. Harry, the owner, is crazy but you will always get a warm welcome. We got married in Kefalos on July 16th. Harry and his son Yianni were our witnesses. We had a great time! If you do go there - ask him about Mr and Mrs Animal. The accomodation is basic but always clean. They are situated right on the beach. The food is always good there. Harry's wife Sevvi does all the cooking. We have many friends that go there year after year. Enjoy!!! PS I'm now Wendy King

Machaela B

FOR ANYONE OFF TO KEFALOS THIS YEAR IT'S THE NICEST, QUIETEST AND MOST RELAXED RESORT ON THE ISLAND. WE LOVE IT, THIS WILL BE OUR THIRD VISIT TO KEFALOS AND THE HOTEL HEREMES. A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO GO THERE GO YEAR IN YEAR OUT THEY LOVE IT SO MUCH. NO ONE CAN SAY THEY HAD A BAD HOLIDAY WHEN YOU GO TO KEFALOS YOU WON'T WANT TO COME HOME!!

Jamie N

Hey Emily, im going on the 9th, wen are you going ?? im hopin to find a few friends out there and it should be alot better, what is the age range around there ?? how old are u ? sorry for being nosey :) thanx alot anyways Jamie

Steve A

Hi, Just got back from Kefalos and have to say what a fantastic and friendly place it is, quiet and relaxing during the day and so many places to eat and even more places drink in the evenings, if you like things a little louder and slighly more lively try Sydney's Bar or my personal fav B52's Bar, music there all evening hosted by resisdent dj playing all the fav summer tracks, music stops at 12.00 however the bar will happily serve you long into the small hours serving you as much as you can drink..........the best part though is that there are non of the loud lager lout types, just people enjoying the music and enjoying a good drink (Hello to Christoss running the outside bar in B52's and also to Manos running his own bar just next door.....quite the most friendliest and helpful guy). For those that want a nightclub there is only one in the resort of Kefalos and thats back away from the beach front road and along the main road leading out from the resort its about 15 minutes walk but hey who cares when your on holidays.....the music there is a little heavier and also lots of locals use the club, to be honest i found B52's the place to be! Refreshing to not be jostled in the rush to be served, and trying to collect all those little glasses up with your bill inside at the end of an evening was hilarious (thats just how trusting the locals are which kind of sums it all up for me and indicates just what a friendly and great place it is :-)
I am hoping to go back in September all being well so may see some of you there!

Jacki H

Definately don't book your excursion through the tour company, they are so much more expensive.
Try Excursion Discount Centre on the main road opposite the Melody bar.

There is a cash till in the resort but its not always working so best to take all your money with you if you can.

Heather W

Amanda .... Oh yes and there is a cash popint up in the village next door to Tastys Cafe. There may also be one in the repsort but not too sure, we usually take Euros and put them into the free safety deposit boxes in Kefalos Tours.

Heather W

Hi again Amanda
Never seen any Jelly fish in Kefalos,(perhaps we have been lucky!!) so you should be okay.
Yes I would say def. not to book with the reps for trips, much cheaper to deal with one of the tour offices in resort directly.

Three weeks and six days till we go, will make sure the sun is shining for you when you come out :) :) :)
Heather

Amanda C

My partner and I are going to Kefalos in September, does anyone know of any good excursions that we shouldn't miss and is it cheaper to book it direct, ie, cut out the reps ?
Also, is it true that there are alot of jellyfish about in nearby waters ? and finally, are there any cash points in Kefalos ? Thanks.

Jamie N

Hey Emily, im going on the 9th, wen are you going ?? im hopin to find a few friends out there and it should be alot better, what is the age range around there ?? how old are u ? sorry for being nosey :) thanx alot anyways Jamie

Marie B

Many thanks Heather - it's good to know they're be somewhere open for a few scoops late in the evening!

Can't wait to go - (7 days, 41 mins and 38 seconds to go!)

i thought of a few other things too to ask, like:

Anyone know if you can hire a little boat for the day? Anywhere on Kos will do!

Can anyone tell me if we're going to experience anything typically Greek on Kos or is everything aimed at the tourists?

How warm is it in the evenings ? I'm not epecting to have to have to pack a balaclava and anorak but all the same it's good to be prepared!

Any help from anyone will be great!
Cheers
marie

Emily A

Jamie, iv just come back from 2 weeks at the kordistos-was ace-really nice hotel. liked it so much im going next week! anyway, as for nightlife, that end of kefalos is quite quiet but its only about 3mins from popeyes which is a good bar/club. the players lounge is abit further down but not too far. sydneys and b52s and escape etc were all quite a walk, bout 20 mins but who cares when you're on holidy! when are you going?

Heather W

Jamie - don't a great deal up that end of the resort, although you are not too far from popeyes, only about five mins walk, there are also some good bars along this stretch. As for shopping, only the usual tourist shops selling tee-shirts, gifts etc. And a couple of supermarkets
Enjoy yourself
Heather

Shaun T

Just got back from Kefalos 2 weeks ago and loved every minute of it.The Zeus was very clean with friendly, A very relaxing resort with out the annoyance of rawdy lager louts. We will be returning in September for sure.

Heather W

For Marie Bowes
Maritsa are located the top end of Kefalos not too far from Hotel Zeus. A friend has stayed there a couple of times and he said they are basic but good accomodation.
cash point is up in the village next door to Tastys. There may be one down in the resport but not 100% sure.
Some bars stay open late - Popeyes, B52 and Sydneys to name a few, noise must be reduced at I think 11 or 11.30 though.
Hope this helps
Heather

Heather W

Hi Marie
Def. no Dive Centres in Kefalos to my knowledge although a good windsurfing place about half way down the resort on the beach. They would def. be able to tell you if there are any anywhere else on Kos. There is one in Kardemena called Sun Divers, telephone no. 22420 - hope this helps and have a great holiday (leave me some sunshine won't you!!!) :) :)

Graham A

Toya

Thanks for the sympathy! Don't know where the Dionysia is (or the Zeus come to that) but might drop in if I'm passing. Have a good holiday otherwise.

Toya R

Graham/Martin,

My husband and I sympathise with you both!!! We have a 13 year old 'kevin' and as you say it's so uncool to be seen with parents. We're at the Dionysia apartments from 18th. We'll look out for other bored teens when we get there, maybe we should put them all into some kind of 'teen creche':-)

Marie B

might be going to kefalos in a couple of weeks time.

Found this site really interesting and lots of help.

Just wondered if the cashpoint situatin can be clarified - is there one or isn't there one?

Also was wondering what time bars are open till in kefalos.

Does anyone know the Maritsa a ccomodation and what its like, and also the Socrates, and The Charalambos?

Cheers!

marie

Meg

The resort of Kefalos is lovely. Agreat place to go to relax and have fun.It is not realy a place for you if you like to go out to clubs and stay out all night.kefalos has a wide range of tavarnas and restraunts. There is a range os tavernas that show newly released films.

Marie E

Hi Heather it's Marie again, thanks for your info about Dimitris apts., looking forward to going, never been before (2weeks to go)can you tell me are there any Dive Centres in Kos? if so whereabout, looking forward to hearing from you, Marie

Matthew L

We stayed in Kefalos. Which was a mistake, as we should have stayed closer to Kardamana, as every night we opted to go there instead of a quiet night in Kefalos. The only problem though was the 25 euro charge for a taxi to Kardamana from Kefalos. But in the day Kefalos was brilliant, the schenary was very good, very pleasant to all ages. The Island was also quiet all the time, which was fine in the day, but at night, it was too quiet for two young people..

Claire G

Hello,

me and my partner are flying out to Kos (kefalos) next saturday and we are staying at the Stamatis studios in Kefalos. Does anyone have any info on these studios and any general info about the resort

Thanks

Donna C

Hello, Just got back from a 1 weeks stay at the Exotic Studios in Kefalos - The apartments where basic, you got supplied with a sheet to cover you for the night which was fine if the weather stayed hot. The noise from the wildlife (Crickets) bothered me more than the Chickens and the Ducks which the owner has in the back garden. If you like to swim and eat you will have a fantasic time. My advise is to go to Resturant Maria on the seafront, lovely food and the people where friendly but go there before 7 as when it gets busy you could be in for a long wait for your food. The breakfast at Captain Johns was 1st class, also on the seafront. I would advise going on the trip to 1 day trip to Turkey, but as there sales this year are very low, do expect to get people bothering you every 5 mins, still good for buying leather and also known as the fake capital of the world. I would also recommend the trip to Kos town, but again be warned much busier than Kefalos so keep an eye on children, as the locals drive how ever they want!
The best experiance was the Greek night, it was what we all wanted some tradition, the dancers where fantastic, and so where the singers.
The best beach we went to was paradise beach, but there where no food facilities only a boat that sells drinks, so do make a nice packed lunch.

Stewart P

Hi

We stayed at the Pantheon in May for the first time, we had such a wonderfull holiday we are going back in October. Yes Janet is still there. It is so relaxing and the views are spectacular my first morning of looking out at the view will stay with me a very long time.

Toya R

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your help, it sounds lovely and we're really looking forward to our first visit to Kos. Just over two weeks to go now:-)

Susan G

Hi Tonya your apts are set back from the main road (so theres no noise)and are in lovely flowery grounds owned by a small greek family who live opposite the lady who owns ithas given the property her name she seems lovly and sits on the porch with her family every night.you are two minutes from the sea 5 minutes from the mountains and 5 minutes from the harbour.Andreas place is almost opposite and he does a great brekkie his english wife and her english friend Rita and Dawn run the car hire place and can supply you with anything you need and offer any advice too,by the way you dont have a swimming pool but Andreas does and lets anyone use it as do most of the larger hotels who own one.i know youll love it wish i was going too.

Susan G

we have just returned from the eftichia apts where we had the best time the weather was sizzling but thankfully keflos is known for its sea breeze. We met some fantastic people Rita and Dawn who are situated at Andreas Place near the harbour will sort you with a cheap car hire and local knowledge.the apts were a dream, seperate bungalows in the middle of a proper rural greek setting.the resort itself is wonderfully peaceful during the day and comes to life at night.Keflos is ideally situated for sightseeing in the car everywhere is accesible as there is basically only one main road.the veiws are mindblowing, the cost of living is cheap, all in all its great.

Amanda C

Thank you Heather for your comments about Kefalos, looking forward to going, you never know, we might even bump into each other, we're flying out on 22nd September for a week from Gatwick.

Denise R

We have just returned from two weeks in Kefalos and have to say after reading all the comments here about how wonderful it was before we wnet we were very disappointed. It was extremely quiet for mid to late July (several Taverna and bar ownwers told us that business was 60% down on this time last year but they didn't know why) our 15 year old daughter was extremely bored as there seemed to be few kids her age there. most of the locals were quite friendly but nowhere near as friendly as they were in Platanes in Crete where we holidayed last July (will be returning there next year but would not return to Kefalos).

We did enjoy going to Maria's bar, Mano and Yiannis are very friendly and Mano's cocktails are the cheapest in the resort.

We stayed at the Kontessa apartments and found them to be fairly clean with fantastic views and a good pool but the cleaners were absolute dragons who ruined our stay there. They told us off for staying in bed too late in the mornings ( I was up and in the pool at 9am most mornings!), they turned our fridge down to minimum or even off while we were out and threw away clean tissues, soap, shower gel bottles of water etc before we were finished with them. We had to hide things to avoid having them thrown away. I hope our experinece was a one off and that those of you still to go will enjoy a good holiday, I just wanted to sound off after a disappointing holiday.

To top it all my suitcase was lost on the way home and now I only have the horrible clothes I left at home to wear.

Heather W

Hello Amanda. The Stenna Studios are ideally located. Almost in the middle of the resort but set back off the main road so not noisy. We stayed very near to them two years ago and passed them most days. You have good views across to the sea from here as there is only a field in front. Only about a five min walk, or less, down to the beach and to the nearest bars and tavernas. Supermarket about two mins away.
September time is, I personally feel, the best time to visit Kefalos. Not too busy and the weather is usually great, around low 80's most days, can chill a little at night tho' so best taking something to cover up (if you need it). We have been going September / early October for nine years and are visiting again mid September. Jewellery shops - well, you sound like me!!! Only the one I'm afraid, on the road leading to the harbour; it is only small but they do have some nice stuff. There is a chap in the old village (which stands atop the hill overlooking Kamari (Kefalos Bay) who makes things to order, not really a shop as much as a workshop, but his prices are good. You would need to ask a local up in the village whereabouts he is as I have only been the once, located down one of the many little backs streets, he is much cheaper than down in the resort. There are not a great number of shops, just the usual touristy ones selling stuff like table cloths, beach wear and little gifts. A fair number of supermarkets though.
TV. Most of the bars have at least two TV's and they are usually on whilst any sporting event is on. You should have no trouoble at all getting to watch the Grand Prix, or footie whatever. We tend to watch stuff like that down at Marias on the Harbour Road, now I believe called manos Cocktails. They have a large screen - a medium screen and a little TV, all showing different sports or news so you should find what you are looking for.

Any other questions - just holler
Have a great holiday
Heather

Amanda C

My partner and I are going to stay at the Stena apartments in late September this year, can anyone tell us anything about them, are they in the centre of the resort ? Also, what's the weather like in September, are the bars and shops good (any good jewellrey shops), what excursions and towns are best to visit and most importantly, is there anywhere in Kefalos or nearby that will have the Grand Prix on ?

Heather W

Personally I would say that in September yes probably more suited to couples and families. There are however some really very good and lively bars tho' if you do decide to visit. It is really a lovely place but more of a wind down and recharge the batteries type of holiday.
Heather

Peter K

TO REACH KEFALOS APTS. GO FROM ROUNDABOUT BACK TO MAIN ROAD,
GO STRAIGHT ACROSS AND UP THE SMALL LANE TILL YOU REACH THE
LARGE SUPERMARKET. TURN LEFT UP ANOTHER LANE AND APTS. ON YOUR
RIGHT ABOUT 50mtr.UP.

Heather W

Kokalakis Hotel is very centrally located. right at the heart of Kefalos. Captian Johns Taverna opposite, the new Galini just at the rear on the side road, just opened this year (he has moved from the top road). Marias taverna also very close by, as is Argo, Stop Inn and Stamatia - all very highly recommended and all child friendly.
You will enjoy Kefalos don't worry.
You are less than a A stones throw to the beach, although it is a bit shingly along this part, better walking down towards the Harbour where there is a small sandy bay, or the other direction where the beach is much bigger and sandy. The Kokalakis has recently been refurbished and the pool area also re-done I believe. Have not personally stayed here only seen from outside, but have read a couple of decent reviews on other forums.
Heather

Paul H

JUST BACK FROM KEFALOS HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE KORDISTOS HOTEL 150MT FROM SOME GREAT TAVERNAS WONT NAME THEM THEY ARE ALL WORTH GIVING A GO. BEACH IS A BIT STONY BUT THE CLOSER YOU GO TOWARDS THE ISLAND THE MORE SAND.NICE LOT OF BARS IN THE EVENING YOU WILL ENJOY THE LOCALS AS THEY SEEM TO LIKE THE BRITS.GO TO KOS TOWN FOR THE DAY GET BUS €2.80 EACH WAY. WE FOUND THE 7.30AM BUS BEST AND THE 1.00PM OR 2.30 BUS BACK GIVES YOU PLENTY OF TIME FOR SHOPPING AND A SWIM WHEN YOU GET BACK HAVE A GOOD TRIP

Faye F

Have just come back from two weeks staying at the Exotic Studios. Good location, well kept and perfectly adequate. You should take a travel kettle and also extra toilet rolls! Eating out at Maria's Taverna is a must. Staff are so friendly...food is wonderful, copious and it's unbelievably cheap. Book any excursions independently as it's a lot cheaper than through tour operators. Very, very hot this time of year but a lovely quiet resort where you have the use of any pools free with sun loungers.

Susan F

There are pictures on the First Choice web site. This is a link to the Kontessa page but if that doesn't work just go to the First Choiuce Home page, Summer Sun and then search for Kontessa

re andrew. july 04

development is spread throughout kamari bay area but you don't really notice it unless you go up the hill to old kefalos. the harbour area is pretty much as its been for years.

was anyone there when the greeks won the eurocup? we were there for the 1/4 finals and the locals went ape. would have loved to have seen the reaction on the final night..

Andrew

We have not visited Kefalos since 2002, although have been regular visitors apart from last year. I have heard the resort is starting to get quite built up with new development. Can anyone tell me if this is at the harbour end of the town?

Karen M

This is for Michelle Jones who requested info on the Zeus Hotel. We came back from Kefalos on Sunday 4th July 04 and had a brilliant time. Maria, Stavros and their family run the hotel. We had a great time, the family cannot do enough to make your holiday enjoyable. The hotel has had major improvements since you last visited, and now have air con available in all rooms. The fact that Greece won their quarter and semi finals whilst we were still there, was the icing on the cake. We just wished we were there for the final too. You will love it.......

Jack T

Looking for a place to stay (studio apartment) on Kefalos town if available for 3 nights (August 10 - 13). Please post any available and rates? Thanks.

Geoff G

We stayed at Roses Appartments on the main road. Roses is a small (8 rooms) and friendly complex which includes the Dolphin Bar and pool. It is run by Manolis and his family who were very helpful and friendly. The pool is also open to the public and was used by guests from several local appartments. The whole holiday was just what we wanted, i.e. peaceful and good value for money. Although we went self catering, we never used the kitchen and ate out every evening as the cost of meals and drinks is so reasonable despite the introduction of the Euro !
Particularly liked Stimiata, Sebastians and the Wave. The Wednesday Barbeque night at the 4 Seasons is also highly reccommended at €7.95 inclusive (£5.50 per person) for a good selection of souvlaki, salad and unlimited amount of wine !
Kamari beach is very stony in places but gets softer as you go north towards Club Med. Paradise Beach is the best but transport needed to get there.
It was very quiet by day and at night (26/6 - 4/7)so not reccomended for party animals although B52`s and Popeyes do offer "late" music. All of the supermarkets offer a good selection of food/drink and gifts and we found the shopkeepers particularly friendly.
There appears to be a lot of development going on which may affect the "peacfulness" of the resort in time. Old Kefalos up the hill captures the true spirit of life on the island and is well worth a visit. There were some strong winds at times which can be a bit of a nuisance when trying to read a newspaper et cetera but they also provide a cooling effect from the hot sun so shouldn,t complain too much. Having hired a car for 3 days were satisfied that we had selected the right resort for our particular needs. Kos town and Kardemena could be anywhere in Europe and Tigaki/Marmari may have been just a little too quiet. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will DEFINATELY go again !

Heather W

Marie. Yes - these are the same ones we stayed in last year and we are going again in September this year. I am sure you will like Dimitris Studios.
There are actually two separate blocks, one new and one older - we stayed in the newer of the two blocks last year and really loved it. Do you know the Kefalos area, have you been before? If not Demitiris is well situated on the road which runs parallel to the main road into Kefalos, in a peaceful position with fields to one side and to the rear, also a good outlook across to the bay if you are in the newer block. About five or six mins walk down to the tavernas and bars and to the beach. Cannot comment on the internal layout etc of the older block, they look okay from outside - however in the newer of the two blocks the Studios we were in were beautiful, we had an upstairs apartment. Really roomy and spotlessly clean, plenty of hanging space, the kitchen was usual basic Greek but with the added bonus of a kettle and a toaster,(which we have never had in Greece before when self catering) also a bottle of washing up liquid and tea towel, and liquid soap in the bathroom was a nice added touch. Plenty of hot water even if you get back late, we found hot water at 7 in a morning and at eight at night!! Maid service every day except Sunday. And she left things really nice and tidy and very clean. Bedding and towels changed regularly and loo rolls provided every day. Only a short walk down to the front harbour road for tavernas and bars as I mentioned earlier, there is also a little cut through directly opposite which will take you down a track onto the main road. There is a supermarket within three or four mins walk.
Highly recommended.
Anything else you want to ask about the resort (if you've never been before) just holler
Enjoy yourselves

Heather

Sarah G

Fantastic resort with everything we wanted and without the things we didn't!!

Its nice and quiet with a really relaxed atmosphere. At night there are enough places to go without being a blaring lager lout resort.

The beaches are lovely and the sea (though freezing) is beautifully clear. Baywatch watersports in Kamari Bay is worth a visit. Try the Ringos if you want to laugh like a mad thing!

Gallini Taverna is a must. Run by George and his family who are genuinely lovely people who made us feel very welcome. Food is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. George has a wicked sense of humour which fortunately isn't lost in translation, he's even willig to give a few tips to any budding fishermen/women.

Escape is a good bar to go to, again nice atmosphere and excellent music thanks to Paul (DJ).

We went in June which was nice as its not to busy but the weather is great. Apparently September is even better as the atmosphere is even more relaxed. Fantastic place, can't wait to go back.

Wendy H

Emma, you can e-mail me wlahill@yahoo.co.uk and I can get Harry's number for you at Charalambos. I know he's not in any brochures this year and we have found flights expensive. In May we ended up buying a package with Just. It was cheaper than flight only, then we stayed at Harry's anyway.

Heather W

Susan - cannot picture whereabouts Estichia Apts are, however, Sure that you will like Kefalos. It is a lovely relaxing holiday destination, the beaches in resort itself are okay with safe swimming - however, for even better, lovely sandy beaches go a little further out of the resort and try ones such as Camel, Sunny, Markos, Banana etc. it is too far to walk unless you are into 'walking' but even better you can catch a short water taxi from the front in Kefalos round to these beaches for a cheap price. Some of the boats just go to Paradise beach and Bubble Beach but these are very commercialised - depends on what you are looking for. Some of these have tavernas located on them some don't. There are literally dozens and dozens of really good places to eat out at night, everyone has there own personal choices but amongst some of the better opnes to try are Sebastians, Stop Inn, Paradise, Stamatia, Argo to name just a few, these are all located down the Harbour end of the resort, plenty more at the other end too - depends upon where you are located. Plenty of good bars too, and a couple of discos for the younger ones!! We are going back in September for our ninth visit so if there is anything at all you would like to ask - feel free and I will respond best I can.

Bernie C

The Exotic Studios are basic but adequate. The cocerkel may wake you up in the early hours of the morning so keep your shutters shut. Be careful not to break anything as the handle came off the fridge door and even though we did report it to the golden sun rep, one day when we returned to our apartment the entire family was camped out on our doorstep demanding 20 euro's. We did pay as they started getting really loud. So beware the family as they do let there kids run round making a noise, especially in the early evening. Apart from the apartments, Kefalos is superb, the people are so friendly and the restaurants and tavernas all serve great food at very reasonable prices. Have a great time cos we did.

Heather W

For Ray Cowie - what sort of information are you after Ray - where are you staying. Been going to Kefalos for anumber of years and could possibly help you a little further

Heather W

Hi Marie
Is it the one advertised as having tennis courts at the back? If so, let me know and I can let you have information you might need as we stayed there last year and going again to same place this year in September. If you booked with Libra you may find the picture with Demitris write up is NOT the picture of the apartments you are going to. Have a look at the write up and tell me what it says

Heather

Emma O

We stayed at the Charalambos Studio's (Harry's) in August 2003 and were really impressed. The accomodation was basic enough but catered for our needs and the location was excellent, a minute walk from the beach. Was a really chilled out holiday and enjoyed it so much we plan to go back this year - however i cannot seem to find the contact details for Harry's anywhere - does any have them? And if so could you kindly forward on to me?! Happy holidays to all!

Mel L

To Be Honest I am going to kefalos, In July, I just wanted to say that I found the website really useful as I have never been there before, so I did pick up some good tips and handy hints.

Thanx

Heather W

Yiannis are very nice I believe, we have not stayed here personally but have seen them. You are not far aways from bars, tavernas and beaches. About five mins or so walk down to the front, they are situated in a really quite spot near to the Mayflower / Peros complex, very close to a supermarket too.
Sure you will love Kefalos - we are visiting for the seventh (or 8th??) time in mid September and counting the days! If you want any more detailed information on the resort give me a shout

We are visiting Kos (Kefalos) for the first time, any hints and tips would be welcome. Have visited Greece before and loved the people and the atmosphere.

Heather W

Panthion Appts.Kefalos
We have not actually stayed at these appts. but know where abouts they are located, took a nosey trip there a couple of years ago and thought they looked very nice indeed and they have a great pool and stunnng views out to the little island of Kastri in the bay. Do you know Kefalos at all, I could let you know where they are located in distance to other places / beaches etc. - let me know if you want some tips on tavernas etc. We have visited Kefalos many times and love the place but always stay the opposite end to where you are
Heather

Susan F

We are going back to Kontessa for the fifth time this August. The apartments are well kept and the owners are very friendly and helpful.

Jules

can anyone give me some information on the Kontessa Apartments? are they in a good location and are they well kept? the pool looks good and the views seem great. is that good photography or true!

Claire W

hi all, we just wondered if anyone has stayed at the penthion appt as we have just booked a late deal for a week there, the hol rep assured us we wouldnt be dissapionted but always better to hear from someeone with real experience . so would be really grateful for any views. appts panthion in kefalos.

Peter K

Vaughn/Wendy,
Charalambos studios not registered with any UK agents in 2004.
Looks like the Germans have got their TOWELS down first.
Will be in KOS in June just to see what they make of Harry.

Wendy H

Charalambous / Limani / Harry's, in Kefalos. All the same place, half way down the main road on the beach side. Great food (home cooking from Harry's wife), Harry himself is great entertainment, absolutely crazy! Accomodation clean. One minute walk to beach. I can never find a brochure with this accomodation in but it is highly recommended, many people go back year after year.

Georgina A

Albatros should be in the Kosmar brochure or try Andreas studios and apartments. Have sayed there many times and you have a great time. Only two minutes from Albatross.

Pauline D

Was hoping to book accommodation at Albatross Studios but can only find them in First Choice brochure. Nothing wrong with that but they only do mid-week flights & we have to travel on a Saturday. Any other way of contacting them?

Heather W

colette, libra seem to have a mamouth c**k up with their brochure this year. the studios we wanted to book 'dimitri' in kefalos had a completely different picture (actual picture was of another place altogether!!!!) with the description of dimitri though.. just because you don't see the picture doesn't mean to say it is not actually in the brochure if you know what i mean. think the best bet for you would be to telephone libra direct and not go off the brochure.
hope this helps - failing that you would try and contact kefalos tours in kefalos, they may be able to help you - the libra reps name for kef is effy.
heather

Jenny L

Thanks for the info Heather. I'll have a look at that website.

Heather W

Hi Jenny, Zues is a nice Hotel with a lovely pool but is situated at the other end of the resort - there is a smashing little place called Tea for Two run by an English Couple on the main road very near to Zues, they do really good english Brekkie with proper bacon and English Sausauges etc. You will need to get the legs going to walk up to the bars which would suit your age group. There is Popeyes which is probably about a ten mins walk away. There are a couple of discos (Privilege and Siwa) along here as well but cannot comment on what they are like. The Piano Lounge is a good place too, good music and well patronised. Also you could try Sydneys Bar (they have a web site you could look at but not too sure what it is - maybe if you do a search) B52 also good. However the majority of these such as Sydneys and B52 are down the harbour end, a long walk but then again most of the good tavenas are that end too so you could mabe get a cab down and walk back.
Hope you have a great holiday - sure you will enjoy Kefalos.
Take a look at www.kefalos.com that is a fair site dedicated to just Kefalos.
Heather

Heather W

Jenny .... depends on what you are looking for really. Kefalos is not a 'nightlife' type of place, although it is there if you want it! Waht age are you and what are you looking for, we have been to Kefalos many times so will be able to give you plenty of info, just let me know what you're after
Heather

Kontessa apartments are with Unijet

Karen R

I have been to Kos twice and stay in Kefalor as my mum moved out there two years ago, she had a house built out there. I also stay in Kontessa apartments, they are the best there. Sidney's bar is very good. I spent a lot of nights there and met some great people. I will be going back next year and will be meeting up with the people I met this year.

I stronly recommend staying at Kontessa. Does anyone know what tour operator they will be using as they told me it would be changing.

Vaughan K

HI HEATHER
THANKS FOR THE INFO WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT WE THINK NOT GOING TILL NEXT MAY.HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD HOLIDAY AND THANKS AGAIN.
VAUGHAN-WENDY

Heather W

Hi Vaughan - Wendy
Yep, was right. Roses are located where I thought. Look okay but basic, when we were there last week though the pool next door (Dolphin) was closed looked horrible and green don't know whether it is cos it is end of season or something gone wrong with the filter. Efi was located near police station at the other end of the main road.
Hope you enjoy your hols wherever you end up!
Heather

Mike C

we just love kos and kefalos in particular, but this year (may 2003) we needed medical help. the tour rep (golden sun) advised us to visit the medihelp clinic - which was just next door - convenient eh!

anyway, treatment consisted of a prescription and advice to come back later for a check up. we tried, but the doc was never there, so eventually gave up after about 5 attempts. for this two minute consultation we were charged euro 60.00 (the policy excess, strangely), and were told that the e111 wasnt applicable. (we later found out that this was because medihelp is a private clinic and if we'd gone to the surgery in the village there'd have been no charge). The 60 euros was going to be the only fee, we were told.
On return to the uk we received a bill from 'assured european management' a company who told us they'd bought our 'debt' and that we owed them another gbp125.00 (approx). we had to pay within 14 days or legal action...etc. the holiday insurers told us this is a common practice, but the bill is usually nearer gbp 2,000!
LOTS of stress and hassle, if you need medical treatment phone your insurers emergency helpline before seeing anyone, unless of course you're lying underneath a taxi at the time!
enjoy your hols!

Neil B

very nice place would return in a hurry if possible the veiw from
kefalos village is amazing went on history lesson while there on how the greek villagers used to catch fish & afterwards they cooked the
fish which was served up with salad & wine. a great evening had by all. THANK YOU PEOPLE OF KEFALOS FOR BRILL TIME & HOLIDAY

Gillian H

just returned from a first time stay in Kefalos and have to say it was excellent. The weather was hot (end sept) and the locals very helpful and friendly. We stayed in Kontessa appartments and would really recommend them to everyone, they were very clean and had a great pool as well. We hired a scooter and did a bit of exploring and found it to be a very cheap way of getting around (don't forget to take your driving licence). Found plenty of good places to eat and drink. Would definitely go back.

Richard P

This place would be good for Adam Clegg. He could get his phone out and bore everyone. And there's nice beds for him to sleep all day!

Heather W

Vaughan and Wendy - just caught me - finish work tomorrow!!!!!
As far as I can remember it is on the left hand side of the road past the (righthand) turn for Zeus. But not far from there maybe about five mins walk or less. If I am wrong will post a response when we get back.

Thanks for your message. Is this going down the hill coming from the airport, is it before or after Zeus, or aghious stefanos taverna? If you could let us know after you come back, we would be grateful. Have a great time.

Roses Studios are at the other end of Kefalos on the left hand side, down the hill into the resort, a few yards past the bus stop on the left is a newish pool with Dolphin pictures on the walls, Roses are nextdoor to here, above (i think) the cut price booze shop.
Hope this helps

For Vaughan King

Efi Studio's are - I think?? just across the road from the Police Station. Cannot picture Roses tho sorry. Going back AGAIN!!! a week Wednesday.

Jane D

hi ben try to cantact us through the messageboard on this site, cheryll doesn't have a comp but i'll keep her updated tracy will check on line on monday

Jane D

hi there this is jane from the previousley mentioned scotts lassies by ben (happy)
just got back from a fantastic holiday made so by all the people i met as i had gone there on my own.
I stayed at the vasilis apartments and would not recommend them for single females as it is an uphill walk pretty dark and lonely although we did get lucky as there were 4 females on their own and we got on really well there were also some guys who looked after us.The apartments do not have a pool but public pool within 5 mins walk with eating and drinking facilities apartments are clean and basic but do not ask for any toilet roll ,blankets you will not get them also no reception/contact and a weekly rep visit and the maids throw a fit if on your last day you leave your cases in a friends room and then go back to use the toilet and get changed apparently you are supposed to ask permission first, ask who I have no idea???
Try scorpio's restaurant on the main street average 10 euro each for a fair size main course and an alcoholic drink
Pubs we liked B52 on the way to the harbour (easy to run up a fair size bar bill if in a group though)
players lounge on the main street
Disliked: bar sidney on the way to the harbour music too loud, use local cheap spirits which do not reflect in the prices
restaurant at the end of the harbour ok if you love cats jumping on the table and hair in your food.
full breakfast can range from 2.5 euro in manos (main street) to 6 euro on the harbour side just have a look at the price first, some use hotdog sausage and streaky bacon others use english sausage and decent bacon depends on your preference.
supermarkets pretty cheap ciggies on average 23 euro for 200 branded vodka/whiskey ranges from 4.8 to about 12 euro water we found about 1.2 for a BIG bottle or about 40cents for a small one.
I would definatly go back but it is very quiet during the day not much to day but sunbathe or do the boat trips (fishing, island hopping, beaches)
I would also want to be on the main street especially if on my own.

Thanks again all for a brill holiday and keep in touch

I have been to Kos several times but i need to know exactly where the EFI studios or ROSES studios are situated can anyone help.

David D

We have just returned home after 2 weeks in Kefalos, we had a great time. The kids loved the swimming pools and the beach.
We stayed in the Anthoulis Apartments, they were very clean and spacious. We hired a car for 4 days and went sightseeing into Kos Town, Paradise Beach (we didn't find the bubbles), The water Park at Kos was a good day out, lots to do there.
We went across to Turkey on Tuesday (market day). We booked through a Excursions Agent in Kos Town, and it worked out a lot cheaper than going through the reps. We paid €86 including port tax (€9 each)for 2 adults and 1 child, just port tax for under 5's. The reps on Kefalos charge around €49 adults, half price for under 13's plus port tax. What we saved paid for the hire of the car for 4 days.
There is plenty of places to eat, the food was excellent everywhere we went.
We would definately recommend it!

Susan J

I am wanting to know how easy it is to go to Turkey for the day,We are staying in Kefalos, and also how much it costs. Also who are the best travel people to go with.

Alison H

We were a bit apprehensive after booking last minute on the internet but Kefalos was absolutely lovely and we really felt we had got a great deal. We stayed at the Kefalos Studios, which were clean and spacious, and the apartment had the added bonus of 2 separate bedrooms as well as the lounge/diner and bathroom.
The beach was great with lots of watersports at Poseidon and Baywatch, and was never too busy. Lots of places for drinks and snacks. Restaurant-wise we enjoyed 'The Wave' and 'Captain John's' - both places served great food, and had very friendly staff.
Highly recommended is the gyros plate at Manos (5 euros for absolutely loads of meat, chips and salad)- a 24 hour restaurant/takeaway just down the road from the studios. Also we had a full English breakfast a couple of times - very reasonably priced - quick service - and we certainly didn't leave feeling hungry!
For stocking up the drinks cabinet the local supermarkets are much better value than the duty free at the airport.
We would definately stay here again. Not the sort of place for rowdy groups - great for couples and families. Lots of excursions if you want to, but plenty to do if you just want to relax on the beach and eat wonderful food. The people were very friendly everywhere we went, and because Kefalos is not a huge resort the prices were very reasonable too. Thumbs up!

Louisa K

I noticed Ryan Maughan was asking about Rock Garden if anyone has a contact number or e-mail address for John at the Rock Garden it would be much appreciated.

Louisa K

We visited Kefalos on 15th May 03, we were a bit dubious when the coach was driving through to drop us at our hotel and especially as people were saying it was so quiet but as soon as we checked in to the Athinoula, things started to pick up. I just want to say my boyfriend and I stayed there for a week and we would go back tomorrow. It is such a lovely place, nice and peacful just right for a relaxing holiday, the family who run the Athinoula hotel were lovely you are made to feel very welcome, just like one of the family. There is a really good bar just across from the hotel again very well run and willing to go out of thier way to help you, food there at the "Rock Garden" is excellent, hoping to go back out in September just looking for some cheap flights!!!!

My husban and I are coming to kefalos in 15 days time. I would like to know if anybody has stayed in Manolis studios, if so what are they like,( we have requested a high floor studio). Also i would like to know which car/scooter hire shop as good bikes 150 cc and above my husband has a full bike license)and what the average cost is per day or week.My daughter and partner came in july and stayed at the andreas studios, she told us it was a very nice place to visit and lots to do.

Gary & avril B

We loved Kefalos it is a resort that has something to offer most people (maybe not lively enough for the 18-30s)and it has managed to keeep its Greek charm and identity. It is very peacefull in the day with an O.K. beach that has a few stones in places but there is a water taxi that leaves every morning for some of the best sandy beaches on the island. We found some wonderfull places to eat that served authentic Greek dishes. Our favourite was Marias just off the roundabout on the front. Our favourite bar was Melody which we found very welcoming and relaxing.

David D

We are going to Kefalos in 7 days, a family with
2 boys, 9 & 13. We are staying in the Anthoulis
apartments, does anyone know anything about them, or the area for kids?
Thanks Dave

Linda C

Kefalos is a beautiful, quiet resort. The beach is lovely with crystal clear coloured water. The restaurants on the seafront are superb, especially Stamatia and Sebastian's. There are enough supermarkets and touristy shops to keep you busy and there are plenty of bars, albeit they are spread out a bit too much. Gorgeous resort which I will definitely visit again.

David M

Kafalos was a great resort if you like a quiet pace. No good for 18 to 30 crowd which is a good thing.
only downside it is probaly too spread out for bar crawling as resort stretches abour a mile along the sea front with about 20 bars 20 tavernas and 20 shops
best taverna was sebastians
worth a walk or bus trip up to kefalos old town have a greek coffee and pastry in the old mans bakery in the back streets also a nice greek bar opposite .Very authenticly greek
speedboats to bubble beach are good leave from kefalos beach about 10 oclock
good cheap bus service to kos town ,kardemena ect
worth hiring a car for 3 to to see island zia is pretty and some nice beaches limanoss and mastharri were nice catch a bus into kos town if nervous driving abroad
we stayed in hermes hotel ,very nice above average greek hotel
nice rooms most with seaviews nice big pool with snack bar
loveley bar with satelite telly and outside balcony ,games room for kids and nice conti breakfast in the morning ,coffee juice ham and cheese roll english breakfast extra about £3
only downsides restaraunt not very good ,better to eat in town and a hike back up hill ,but you get used to it
also good hire car from hotel

M I

HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM OUR FIFTEENTH VISIT TO KEFALOS, WE ALWAYS STAY AT THE ZEUS,THE FAMILY WHO RUN THIS HOTEL ARE VERY WELCOMING.
AS ALWAYS WE HAD A GREAT TIME MEETING UP WITH PEOPLE THAT LIKE US, RETURN YEAR AFTER YEAR. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR NEXT VISIT WHICH HOPEFULLY IS NOT FAR AWAY.WE HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR STAY IN THIS CHARMING RESORT AS MUCH AS WE DID.

Michele H

Can anyone tell me about any good places for vegetarians to eat in kefalos.
We are staying at maritsa studios? Any good?

Pat C

We stayed at Manolis, excellent apartments and family owned. Quite a walk to town centre, helped along by good restaurants and bars! Excellent rep. Very quiet at end of May not many tourist, so treated like royalty. We have been to a few Greek Islands, struck by the standards here, better than other Islands. Clean. But still very Greek. We have many to visit but I am sure we will be back. Kos Town very pretty in May.

Heather W

If it is the one I am thinking of Hotel Evi is situated on the back road which runs parallel to the main Kefalos road. I am almost positive this is the one I have seen along here. It will only take you a couple of mins to walk thru onto the front road where all the tavernas are and the bars. The Hotel looks very nice. You will really love Kefalos - lots of place to eat and good beaches just outside of the resort, try Paradise (busy) Markos not as busy or Sunny all of these beaches are very good with safe swimming. Watch the sun though - it is really very fierce at this time of year on Kos. A friend is over there now and it is 90 degrees. So be warned.
Enjoy yourselves.
Heather

Sean H

has anybody stayed in the Evi studios.Im going next wednesday and just wondering what it was like.

Patrick R

We have been to Kefalos 10 times now, arriving back most recently on 4/6/03. I can recomend it to anyone who wants a peaceful holiday with good food, good company (we have many Greek friends)and good weather, but don't tell everyone or it will spoil it!!!

Enjoy if you havn't been before, and r e l a x ! ! ! ! !

Melissa D

We are travelling to Kefalos and staying in the Mayflower Peros complex - anyone stayed there before?
Also, what is there to do in Kefalos and is it really as quiet as the brochures say?

Thomas Y

Visited here whilst staying at Kardamena - drove in and straight out again - watch for it on "Holidays from Hell"!!!

Andy D

Had a wonderful 2 weeks at the end of May 2003, peaceful, charming, but if too many people go it might get spoilt!! Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Chris C

Barbara, if you are staying at the Hermes, you've probably got one of the best hotels in Kefalos. Try the visit to Kefalos village above the hotel, nice restaurant up there and you get some fantastic views at night. We cheated and went up the steep hill in a hire car! You'll love every minute and want to go back to this fantastic hotel.

Alison H

Hi there - will be coming to Kefalos again for two weeks, commencing 5th June 2003! Staying in the Yiannis apartments again - last time I was on my own (in 2000), but this time bringing my boyfriend. I had such a fab time last time, I just have to show him how great it is!! We will be doing a trip to Nissyros, and catching the speed boat to Bubble Beach (fantastic!), and the odd trip to Kos Town. I can't wait - hope the next 12 days passes quick!! Cheers - and if you are planning to visit Kefalos, I can highly recommend it!! Alison xx

Barbara G

Lorraine H

I am coming to Kos in the next few weeks and need to organise my holiday money. Can anyone tell me if there are any cash machines available in Kefalos, as ideally I would like to just bring my cash card and not bother about travellers cheques? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Susan J

my husband and i are going to stay in manolis studios 27/8/03 for two weeks. I would like some information on scooter hire. Also if anybody has stayed in manolis, if so what are their comments.

Thank you.

Andrew R

The apartments behind the B52 used to be an Airtours. We stayed at these in 2000, and were called the Stamatini Studios. When we were in Kefalos last year these apartments were being let by Olympic.

Jacki H

Taxis
There are always plenty of taxis at the airport, as you walk out the double doors just across the crossing is the taxi rank, if there is not one there they will call for one...it should cost about £10 - £20 not sure as we always get a taxi from a friend...it only takes about 15 minutes.

Jacki H

SNAKES
Do not worry about snakes after 15 visits to Kefalos we have never seen one...

Jacki H

Vasilis Apartments
Re your query about Vasilis Apartments these are with Olympic holidays, they don't always have them in the brochures as they might be over spills, but my friends have stayed there 2 years running now and they managed to book them.

Mary W

We are two families of 4 arriving in Kos in the early hours of the 27th June. I would like to find out if taxi's are available from the airport at this time and an idea of the prices. We are staying in Kefalos at the Anthoulas Studios.

Margaret M

Further to Margarets reply re tel. no (did not realise that "average" was coming up on survey) Would like to say we have discussed in the office and would say that Kefalosit is a peaceful pretty resort with long sandy/pebble beaches and low key nightlife
perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday !!

So ENJOY.

Paul K

My Wife and I stayed in Kefalos at the Vasilis Apartments in 2001 which were close to Billy's Hotel and Pool. But for the life of me i cant find a travel agent/agency which now sells this apartment. I would be grateful if anyone out there has the number of the apartment or an agency which sells the Apartment as we would dearly love to go back. Great site, keep up the good work.

Julian D

to juliette harte.

the apartments behind b52 is now run by a travel agency, but i am unsure which one.

if you speak to the owner of bar b52, who is a very good friend of min, i have known him for 14 years, he might be able to give you more information.

i know that his brother owns the apartments but he has now let them out to an agency

the top man at b52's is manolis and his number is
00302242071395

dont forget to mention my name!

Juliette H

does anyone have a contact number for the B52 apartments behind the B52 bar in Kamari. We had a fantastic time there and would love to go again.

Ray M

To LIz Lliteras - havent stayed at the Kontessa but know it - looks v.nice, and well located. Owned by a woman called Katerina who is supposed to be nice also. If you want to meet areally usefula nd helpful person, see joyce (Canadian married toa Greek) at the Askiplion Tours office towards the harbour. She is a friend of Katerinas, and really helpful - I think she has young kids also. Enjoy Keflaos, we love the place -and have made friends with the people at the Stamatia Taverna - near the beach at the bus circle. Geat people, and a table overlooking the beach/ sea is the best place to eat dinner (tell Michael the waiter that Ray and JAckie said hello)

Ray M

WILL EVERYONE STOP RAVING ABOUT KEFALOS PLEASE - THEY'LL ALL WANT TO COME!!!!!!!! and then it will be spoiled.

(As we who have been to Kefalos know, the best thing about the place is the lovely people - which unfortunately isn't a category to be marked on this page. Go into the Stamatia Taverna - nearest one to the sea, near the bus circle and ask for Antonio (owner), Michael (waiter) or Katerina (A's daughter) and say Ray says hello and he'll be back soon. We all have friends in Kefalos, once you have been.

Joyce D

Pat Bosley, you can email me at double_d@otenet.gr in regards to holidaying in Kefalos for Easter. It is a fabulous celebration!

Joyce D

I think you have chosen a great Appt. Liz. The rooms are nice for families. The childrens pool is only 45 cm deep. The owners are friendly and also have children. It is set back from the main road so it isn't very noisy. Bars, restaurants, super markets and the beach are only a two minute walk. I am sure you will have a great holiday!

Liz L

Hi can anyone help?

I used to be a Thomson Rep and I lived in mallorca for 8 years, and now for the first time ever I am going 'greek' which is going to seem strange as I speak spanish fluently and really now lots of places there but time for a change!
We are a family with three little girls aged 7, 5 and the baby will be almost a year in July when we are due to go. We are staying in appts called Kontessa. Can someone tell me more about the place and are there lots of nice places we can go to eat and suitable for our family?
Thanks :)

Simon W

My finace (now!!) and I went there in 2001 and had the best holiday ever. The whole place was warm (literally) and friendly. If you want a nice, do as you please holiday, this is definately the place to go. We stayed at the Hermes Hotel which has the greatest of views over Kefalos. DEFINATELY GOING BACK

Sarah R

What a fantastic place, my boyfriend and i went there for the first time in 2001 and totally by accident we found the most brilliant bar and restaurant "Sacallis Inn Hotel" (you get to the bar and restaurant by the side of the hotel) both are right on the beach and the family that run it are brilliant people. The food in the restaurant is just out of this world (i challenge anybody to go eat there and tell me it was't perfect). We went back last year 2002 and have just booked to go back this year. You could find a more perfect place than Kefalos and the people are so freindly, just a totally PERFECT PLACE

Tony & mary S

we whent last year, one of the best holidays we have had,and will be going back.

Jacki H

Pat Boseley (January 29, 2003)... If you want to go out there in Easter you will not be able to get a tour operator. You will have to get a flight to Athens and then a flight to Kos. If you still want to do this then email me and I can put you in touch with someone to get you an apartment.. jacki_hall@hotmail.com.

Pat B

We stayed in Kefalos in September 2000. We loved it and said we would be back the next year but unfortunately we were unable to do so. We want to go this April for Greek Easter and need to know about accommodation in the old Kefalos village or the resort itself. Can anyone recommend, please?

Jacki H

Kefalos, Kos well what can I say, Kefalos holds a special place in our hearts, we have been 14 times now and the latest was in January when we got invited out for a wedding..what a nice and Kefalos in January was fantastic with no tourist.... Our favorite bar is the Melody bar (fantastic family) and our restaurants are Kampos and the newly opened Paradise Gourmet.
Someone asked where Vasilis Apartments can be found, have you tried looking at Olympic Holidays as these are usually with them.

Sheila M

stayed at Zeus in kefalos, this year will be our 12th visit to this lovely family run hotel plenty of good places to eat, and we find the greek people to be warm and friendly.

Hi
I need contact details for The Rockgarden Bar in Kefalos (Kamari Bay)- I know that it also has a small internet cafe there (one terminal) and that the proprietor is John Vaviths, from Oz (although his parents live on Kos I think)- hope you can help!! Contact details for John would be particularly useful (telephone/address- ANYTHING!!!!) Many thanks.....

Julie & pete O

Went to Kelalos for our honeymoon in July 2000. Couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to visit. Stayed at the Hotel Zeus (family run) & can't wait to go back again, would recoment this to anyone

Louise C

I had the most wonderful holiday in Kefalos!! We stayed at the Hermes Hotel where all the staff were fantastic. To eat I would recomend Sebastians and the Aussie Bar. B52's was brilliant for cocktails. I am going back in June to meet up with the people I met there last year!!

Rachel S

GREAT PLACE!!!!

Eddie B

Been going to Kos every year since 89,and just can`t wait to go back to Kefalos,it has everything for a perfect holiday, value for money Taverna`s,excellent hotels and apartments and the most welcoming and friendly people it has been my pleasure to meet, not least Nikos and Sissy at Kastri holidays and car hire, who have made our holidays all these years just that little bit special.

Andrew M

We really enjoyed it at Kefalos. My parents had been before, it was better than i had expected. It is a nice place to relax. The people are very welcoming. Sebastians is a great restaurant to try, it has the best food i have ever tasted!. Acropol bar is also very good. They do good snacks, and you must try there pizza's. there cocktails are also nice.

Audrey P

Kefalos was excellent. My boyfriend and I went there 3 weeks ago. The people were extremely friendly. The Aussie Restaurant made the finest Chicken Caeser Salad I have ever tasted! The weather was excellent. It was really quiet and not too busy. An ideal place for a romantic holiday. We are definitely going back!

Rachel S

I am so glad we stayed in Kefalos. So relaxed. If you want a clubbing/drinking holiday, i would stay in Kos town. Kefalos has great beaches, friendly people and lovely Tavernas. Sebastians has the best food I have ever ever tasted. So cheap and quality food!

Gary D

We were there for 7 days - 5 of them had poor to awful weather, so that's coloured our veiw of the place. Pretty scenery, quiet, with a fairly nice beach (cold sea water, though). Not much to fall back on during poor weather. The restaurants we tried varied from poor to average except for the place at the back of Sidney's Bar on the sea front. It was such a relief to eat some proper food.

Lisa L

Just back from Kefalos and we will definately be back next year. Everything about the resort was brilliant - it was quiet and peaceful but we also had a few mad nites!!!!! Good bars are B52's for cocktails and Sydneys for dancing. Good places to eat were Santa Barbara and Four Seasons. Visit Bubble, Paradise and Magic beaches which are all lovely. We stayed at Kalia Apartments which was opposite Billys Pool and Snack Bar and would go back there to stay as there was everything that we needed. The best holiday we have been on!!!!

Raymond D

Have been here twice now will be back again i,m sure.Nice places to dine and drink and relax, try the Blue Moon bar the owners are very welcoming a perfect place to end a nice evening out. Kefalos is a great place to holiday for all ages.

Laura

not too noisy not too quite!i went summer2002 with my family and 2other families. ther was plenty 2 do. we enjoyed it. we were all ages from 10 to 50! and we all loved it! thers a few clubs (sydneys and popeyes bein the best!) for the teenager, whilst the parents can go 2 a greek bar nearby..or evn a 60's bar! B52's is more 4 the parents! a GREAT holiday - definatly go again!!!!

Heather W

What can we say about Kefalos. We love it!! go each year late Sept early October for past eight years. Not for rowdies or teenagers really as they could be well disappointed. There are plenty of bars, and a one maybe two clubs, dozens of good places to eat. The best beaches are out of the main resort, catch the bus or boat which runs from the harbour to Markos, Sunny, Bubble or Paradise beaches. Great clean beaches with crystal clear water. ENJOY!!

Merv L

We are going for the 3rd year running. not to rowdy, just about the right mix. A good selection of accomadation Try Sebastions for a good Menu at good prices, also Captain Johns. If you go make sure to visit Zia to enjoy a meal and watch the Sunset.

Sue

You can have everything in Kefalos from a quiet family holiday to a mad drunken pub crawl as there as also loads of pubs and clubs all over the harbour, most definalty recommended.
