Resorts on Kos

Hi Jane

Billys is quite well situated off a small road running parallel to the main road. If you follow the road around one way you come out by the church at the bottom of the big hill up to old kefalos - not too much of a climb back and the other way leads down past a large supermarket (5 minutes) to the main road opposite the crossroads leading to the harbour road - flattish. There are other places with pools that you can use within 5 minutes - Yiannis and the Mayflower. We've used Billys pool and had lunch there a few times. Our friends have stayed there a few times and going back there this year. It's a good choice!

Going back to Kos in may for a whole month, cant wait, for anyone going  independantly i would recommend the savvas studios, we have been going for 8 years and would not dream of staying anywhere else. It is in the quieter end of the resort, just as you come down the hill take the turn at the side of jimmys supermarket and it is on your right overlooking the sea. Not only is it comfortable, clean and in a great location, it also has a great resteruant with the best home cooked food i have ever tasted, all cooked by mamma aka sevastine. as i say great place and feel privaleged to call the whole family friends.

Martin D

Can anyone recommend apartments in kefalos?? my wife and i are great fans of the greek Isles, first time in Kefalos tho so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Martin

Hi Jane we'll be going back to Kefalos in August for our sixth visit. There are hills at either end of the town but the majority is quite flat. I would however recomend a car if you can for at leasy part of your visit as some of the villages higher in the mountains are amazing!! There's views romance and partying depending on what you want and where you go. Manolis car hire is our favorite (no website) but very helpful once you get ther or Trust (with website) a little dearer usually but it's worth trying to do a deal with him. I hope you enjoy your trip, anything else just ask. P.S. Not stayed at Billy's ourselves but local travel agent stays there all the time so I'm guessing it's good.

Jane T

Planning a trip to Kefalos in July '10 - it looks fab. Just a bit concerned that it's going to be a trek up and down hills all the time? If anyone can advise please let me know. We're hoping to stay at Billy's studios.
Thank you!

Philip H

Just to add If you have seen the film Shirley Valantine She sits at a taverner watching the sunset in the film. The Theologist Taverner has the same atmosphere !!!

Philip H

Hi there it might be an idea to take her to the Theologist taverner at the end of the island otherwise known as the sunset taverner, Its best to go an hour before sunset so you can have a meal and a wine and watch it set, You will have hire a car to get there, You go up through the old town and follow the road west until you get to the coast at that side of the island, We discovered it by accident and have been back everytime we visit kefalos,Its usually not very busy and all the tables have a wonderful view,Personally I think is better than watching set at Zia,No crowds,Hope to visit it ourselves in a couple of weeks,Hope this helps.

Hi Jack

Kardemena is about a 15 to 20 minute drive away from Kefalos depending on what part of the resort you are staying in. A taxi will cost you around 25 Euros but if you were going over there early evening you could take the local bus which will cost about 2 Euros.

Jack D

Hi there,

I am very interested in travelling to Kos this summer with my girlfriend. We are interested in Kefalos as it is nice and quiet. BUT, we would like to travel to Kardemena by night from Kefalos and would like to know if anyone could tell me the distance between the two resorts and an average taxi fare as this would be much help. Thank you very much

click to enlargeclick to enlarge I have returned today from my third holiday at Andreas Studio and Appartments where I have had yet another fabulous time. The owners Andreas, Rita, and there 2 children Anthoula and Christina take you into there family and treat you as one of there own . The atmosphere is truly amazing. The local people are also so friendly, It is just such a different way of life. The food, the appartments everything is just great. There is a very nice swimming pool, restaurant and bar where you can relax and soak up the sun or if you wish to go to the beach it is only a short walk. Car hire is quite reasonable and the scenery around the Island is quite astounding. The sunset at Zia for example. Saturday Night BBQ's are something else. Asolutely GREAT !! Can't wait to get back there in September.    Thanks to all at Andreas Studios and appartments See you all again September

I am going to Kefalos in July and cannot wait! I am staying at the Artemis apartments. Does anyone know where I can find a resort map. I would like to see where I am staying in relation to everywhere else.

Ian W          9/10

Kefalos is a wondeful laid back little 'town'. Spread out along a long single road with plenty of restaurants and bars (only one or two noisy, but no trouble to anyone). If you want lively Kefalos is not for you, if you just want nice then it could well be. The beach is not the best in Greece but hey the waters great. We hired a quad-bike from Manolis bikes and toured the whole island. Kefalos old village is  well worth a visit, the views are superb and if you go ' the cafe ' at the crossroads their Greek yogourt with honey and fruit is to die for. My wife (48 y.o.) and I (57 y.o.) had a great time. We went at the begining of August 2008 to the Manolis Studios (wonderful). The town was nowhere as busy as we expected, so little traffic. We will be going back again this year (2009) in June/July, to the Manolis Studios again. A restaurant to recommend?, try Captain Johns near the coach park. The people in Kefalos were all so friendly so please be nice to then too. I am a total Greekophile and love all the greek islands and the people. If you decide to go to Kefalos I'm sure you will enjoy.

Hugh M

YOU WILL NOT BE SHORT OF PLACES TO EAT, IF YOU GO DOWN THE HILL ,TRY HARRYS AT THE HARALAMBOUS STUDIOS ,JUST OPPOSITE JANIS SUPERMARKET, ITS NOT JUST A MEAL BUT AN EVENING OF ENTERTAINMENT , AND GOD ONLY KNOWS HOW IT ENDS?
IT JUST SO HAPPENS I WILL BE GOING AT THE SAME TIME ,SO HOPEFULLY WILL SEE YOU THERE

Jackie N

Have booked to go to Kefalos for the first time on 9 May 2009.  What are the temperatures at this time of year?  ?Are there plenty of nie greek restaurants and where would people recommend?

 Hi Dave,

Hope you get this in time for your trip to Kefalos, it's a great place.

Yes there is ATM's (cash machines) in Kefalos. The last time I was there, their was 2 that I knew about.

There is one situated at the Bank in the village (top of hill), I think its the National Bank of Greece (not sure about the name), at first you think the ATM may not take your card as the screen is in Greek but insert your card and the screen will go to English. As far as I am aware there is no bank charges apart from your own but you can always pop into the bank and ask direct.  (For the withdrawl of other currency).

There should also be an ATM (cash machine) just located at the foot of the hill going up to the village, It's located on the main street before going up to the village and you pass the doctors on the right hand side and Mano's Fast Food is on the left hand side of the main road going up to the village (Kefalos village proper). The machine is situated on the left hand side of the road going past the two places I mentioned.  Again insert your card in and follow instructions to see the screen in English. If I remember correctly, this machine does charge a user fee, so check it out before you use it.

I think there might be another machine, but I am not to sure where it is, as I am sure I have read it in these posts somewhere.

But I think the two I have mentioned should be more than enough. I personally always draw my money at the ATM at the bank as I don't like getting Euros here and find the ATM at the bank serves me well but I have on a few occasions used the ATM on the main road.

The 3 island tour is a very good day trip to go on.Most restaurants do fresh fish

the best is at Limionas they specialise in it,but you will need transport to get there

about 3 to 4 miles over the back of Kefalos village.

hi there everyone

went to Kos in june 2006, and it was fantastic stayed at pantheon apartments and could'nt praise it enough. Janet is great no problem too big or small is any trouble for her. Were going back this year july 2nd 2008 and cant wait. Really wanting this year to fly by so we can visit everyone again. Met a great couple Lorraine and steve (hiya).  O and by the way janets bbq is to die for !
There is a little shop at the bottom of the hill which sells trinkets well worth visiting if you have some prezzies to take home.
The hill to the apartment is very steep ! especially if you have had a drink   but the hotel as its own bus.
Paradise beach is beautiful and is well worth a visit or two, everyone is very friendly and makes you feel at home. Went on many trips but the best for us was the greek night, really enjoyed ourselves, the people and the food was gorgeous. O and the women going round with the cameras, let them take a picture well worth 5 euros. Our picture is one of many good memorys we have brought back.

We,  (myself and partner), are visiting Kos for the first time,25 june.  Have been to couple of greek islands, but not for a couple of years now.  Its my partner's 50th birthday whilst we are there, and hope we've  made the right choice for a good, full of fun, but chilled out holiday.  We love boat trips, good food, and good people.  So any hints or tips would be really  appreciated. ..xx

Kefalos is a fantastic holiday resort,  as a few people here have mentioned it can a nice quiet relaxing holiday a great place to party.  I've been several times and have booked again for next year!  Can't wait to relax with one of Georges gin and tonics

Rita K

Yes the super markets do stock pampers they are more expensive than in the UK,the end of august/september is still pretty hot!!! we won't have so many children around by then as they will be going back to school,

As to villa Georgois the people who I know that have stayed their have enjoyed themselves, you are opposite a swimming pool called Contessa which is lovely for children.

Marlene G          10/10

excellent holiday people are realy nice ,dolphin bar excellent as well as roses apartments

Hugh M          10/10

one of my happy moments has to be the climb up to the village from the bay ,keeping to the side foot path  that leads up to the old castle , and my the welcome site of the cafe at the top,of course it does not help doing the climb at 10 30 in the morning ,when it is just starting to get a little warm , but you must admit the veiws are fantastic,i know it takes about one hour to get up there ,but the veiewscoming down in 30 mins are great. hope you give it a try.

Kathryn W          10/10

Kefalos is without doubt the most welcoming and fantastic place we have ever holidayed in. We visited last year for the first time, and have just got back from our second trip- so now we are in the process of planning our next (this coming from people who make a point of travelling to different places so we don't miss out on new things)!

The people have now become friends, the weather is always hot and there is absolutely nothing to complain about.

As an overview we recommend:
Manolis for bike and car hire (very friendly, honest people who never try to rip you off and are very reasonable)
Anywhere for food- all the restaurants are relaxed, welcoming and warm with a high standard of cooking
Player's Lounge for the best nightlife and people in Kefalos (BY FAR!- TRUST US)!!!

Kefalos is a quiet resort which is great for couples and families- and is relaxing and chilled during the day and night. However, the nightlife is fun and there are plenty of people up for a laugh in Player's and the night clubs Siwa and Survivor after 12.

Finally hi to DIMITRIS!!!, Chris, Linz, Hayley, Alan, Babis (BIBAS!!), Fred, Flo etc- we miss you all  and hopefully will see you soon.

To anyone going to Kefalos in the near future, we hope you have a great time (which without doubt you will) and kick back and sample an Apple Martini in Player's on us!

Kathryn & Ian

Bonita H

On the bend where the garage or Pilios ( I think that's what it's called) supermarket there is a cash machine.  Along the road from Players bar and opposite the Police Station, you can use your delta card no problem

Chris M

Rita,or anyone who may know,is there a cash point in Kefalos that accepts debit card withdrawals? or anywhere on the island that you know of? Be there Thursday morning 26/7/7

Kos Island is amazing place to go. Beautiful, sunny and little windy, great for windsurfing and lying on the beach. very friendly people, very good food.
we were in Kefalos( 20 min from the airport -no problem with taxi or any transfers-don’t book anything with your holidays coz it’s cheaper there around 25 euros taxi to the airport from Kefalos)
Kos Town it is beautiful and situated near Turkey side(Bodrum Town) you can see two countries in one day-30 min to Turkey by ferry boat.
Now go back to Kefalos-many taverns and bars, quiet but only during a day, night life is’t different. Now about our favourite place The Players Lounge-great people working there, music same like in the London best clubs but cocktails from around the world. Kos great place to go and cheap by the way. We would like to thank you to Dimitri who is running The Players- THANK YOU FOR YOUR HSPITALITY AND GREAT TIME

Just returned on early hours Friday morn, what can i say?  Kefalos was fab and it can be as lively or as quiet as you want.  Plenty of excursions to do and good prices, although don't go through your Rep as you tend to pay nearly 20 Euro more than if you book it elsewhere.  To those of you who are going soon ...........  ENJOY

Bernadette M          10/10

I have just returned from kefalos with my youngest daughter we both loved kos, we stayed in kefalos but travelled to kos twice, kefalos is beautiful there is plenty to do in the day (if you want to) but at night we found ourselves in sydneys which is a great place for both young old and the infirm! the weather was really hot got great sun tans, have travelled to may places cancun was alway my first choice of a great holiday but I think now Kafalos has won both of our hearts, any one reading this willl have a great holiday there!

Steven S

I have been to Kos 3 times now and I am going for my 4th at the end of july I have been to Kefalos but that was back in 1999 per the comment below people I have spoke to loved it, said it was relaxing in the day but there are bars and 2 clubs I think they said to go to at night, its not as much as Kos town or Kardemena but there is still stuff to do at night, I was looking to relax in the day and not be bored at night as were not excatly old 26 & 27 so really looking forward to this and seeing it is very hot out there all the better even tho I wil prob look like a lobster by the end of day one

Charlotte B

My boyfriend and I wanted a relaxing holiday that wasn't too busy, we have booked a weeks stay at Vasilis Studios, Kefalos but I can't find anything at all on the place!! can anybody help?

Also I am worried it will be VERY quiet..... I hope not... is this place suitable for young people (I'm 19)

Hi all,

Just got back from Kefalos and a real good time again was had. We stayed in the Anemones apartments and they, although being only a year old were real nice apartments

Jan R

Thanks Pat for your reply, we are also counting the days, we are looking forward to it so much after all the good reports I have read about both the resort and the hotel.   I assume as so many people make return visits that its a 'little bit of paradise' - cannot wait.  I might well think of a few more questions nearer the time.

Pat K

jan, friends of ours who are going at the same time go snorkling on the beach every day in kefalos.you can also get a taxi boat to near-by paradise beach were the name says it all. paradise.we are flying from manchester and are counting the days.terry&pat kerley.

Jan R

Thanks Terry for your reply,  we are also going on the 4th from Birmingham.  We both love the beach and sea,  I am aware that its a sand/pebble beach at Kefalos, but could you say if its worth taking out snorkles with us are there any fish to see?  We are both looking forward to the break very much and enjoying the Kefalos hospitality that everyone says is so good.

Terry K

jan rawlinson. me and my wife are going back to the kamari bay hotel on the 4th of july for the 4th time.yannis the owner and tony the barman will soon make you feel like one of the family, and i,m sure you will have a fantastic holiday.as for fish restraunts most of them do great fish dishes, but for a giant cod or snappers you must try the rainbow. enjoy kefolas terry&pat kerley

Rita K

I think the studios could be called either Georges or Arcondia,Arcondia studios with  Libra, and Georges studios are now private but he still rents them if you want to just get your flight over.

Hi all,

Went to Kefalos last June for our 25th Anniversary and had a great time. Stayed at the Kalonisa Studio's near the Harbour end and the accom, although basic was more than sufficient. Visited a number of different eateries throughout our stay, but i think the best meals were at the grill bar with the man cooking in the window to be the best. We are going back again in June this year and staying at Anemone, so will post comments on that when we return.

i loved Kos Greece i have been to that Island twice now and i loved it. Me and my family always travel to Greece to different Islands. LOVIN ITTTT  Kefalos was amazin as well all the Geek islands are. The food is fab

Amy H

Kefalos was great. Lovely quiet, relaxing little fishing village with everything at your fingertips. Hotel was great, we went with Olympic, (Mayflower2) family really helpful and also really welcoming. We went to our Welcome Meeting purely because we felt sorry for our rep, Adam (he looked so tired after a night at the airport - we were delayed) and he was so cheery on the microphone on the coach, and even managed to tell us a cool joke about mosquitos I will remember always! Anyway, the talk was really informative and funny. We were told everything we needed to know, and a little bit about the locals which was very useful! I know without Adam's information we would have been quite lost! I read some bad reviews about him, and I don't know why! Someone else must've liked him! I know that we will be returning next year, I like to think Adam and all the Peros family will be there on my return! Go to Captain John's. We ate there every day, they even have sunbeds outside. Chrysoula was so nice, it was like having your mum on holiday with us! Also, go to Sydney Bar. Had such a good time there, its not too loud and louty like Kardamena! The guys in there are great, also met the reps there for a few!

Jill K

We hired a big buggy for the day, great fun, went to Keflos village had a ltr of freshly squeezed fruit juice,of your choice, that did go down good,Then went to beach, really nice clear water, some building going on,had lunch then off to Plakka to feed Peacocks, good time and nice place Keflos.

Artemis Are just behind the babis shop. On the road up to Mayflower and Billys

Angie J

Just returned from Kefelos last sunday morning very early, and 2 days back wish i was still there.

Stayed at Andreas studios, very basic, but had all amenities, apart from no kettle, saucepan had to do, and when we arrived, nothing to drink, no tea or coffee, and we arrived very late and desparately needed a hot drink, had to wait till morning. blah.

Went to Kos town three times, and loved every second of it, went over on the ferry to Bodrum, it was market day so went off to explore, wrong decision, just like any other market in the uk, except the turks are very very in your face to sell you something.

Very cheap for fake goods, and some so good you cant tell apart.

Not much in Kefelos apart from taverners, but very peacefull and a great place to chill, Mando's was brilliant, and his homemade shot was lovely, wouldnt say what was in it, but red and very very morish, ha ha.

And i will definately miss the iced beer glasses, and the cheap beer.

Stephen J

I was a single traveller to Kefaols in September 2006, staying at Jacks II. The accommodation was basic with twin beds, balcony, ensuite and kitchen with fridge, electric hob. Laundry changed twice a week. Quiet location. Excellent pool with restaurant attached. Short walk across a field path to the main road with its many shops, restaurants/bars and the beach. All the people were very friendly. English written menus. I spent about 20 euros day on lunch and evening meal making my own breakfast (take a small cooking pan with you). Bottled water is very cheap. Fun trying to make toast on an electric hob. I hired a car, the roads were easy to drive on, all drivers were very helpful. Buses are about one each hour in the morning although never on time, and travel to Kos where you get a bus to out lying areas or other resorts. Watch the return times otherwise you may have a long walk back or an expensive taxi ride. Highly recommended if you like history, walking, sunning yourself on the beach or pool and a quiet holiday. Not recommended if you like an active night life. You will need beach shoes for going in the water as there is a two metre of pebbles in the immediate water line probably to stop the sand from moving. Kefalos is slightly windy, cold in the evenings during September, good sailing and surfing area.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Kefalos. We had a fantastic time & will be back next year.
The Greek people were so friendly, We went Self Catering so we ate out every night & we didn't have
one bad meal. The Food was fantastic...Also can recommend Trust Car rentals Yanni & his staff are lovely.

Steve A

Thanks Heather and Mary Lou thats a great link!! I'll be there in a coupla days an I'm really lookin 4ward 2 it

Heather W

Steve - don't know of these apartments sorry - but the weather should be fine.  We have been going out to Kefalos this time of year for twelve years now and only seen rain on two occasions.  You should find the temperatures around low 80's but slightly cooler at night with a bit of a breeze.

Machaela B

We arrive on the same day!!  Kefalos is a nice chill out place but you can party too, Players is a really good place to have a drink and a boogie.  There's loads of places to eat and drink, Stamatia was good when we were there last there and Politis is good for breakfast.

Rita K

yes we have a pretty regular bus service from kefalos to kos town, also you can get the water taxi from the front to paradise beach everyday, the bus goes to kos every couple of hours in the morning and a couple of times in the afternoon the last  bus gets back to kefalos about 9.30pm.

Jane C

Hi, My husband & i go to Kefalos on thursday can anyone tell me what the public transport is like & how often they run.

Machaela B

Graham just seen your message not sure if you've had any answers.  Firstly let me say you've picked a really good place to stay, the Hermes is great and so friendly, as are Diana and Sabastian the owners and their family.  I'll be going in September for the fourth time and my parents the eighth!!  The Hermes is full of people who go back year in year out.  Back to your question, there is a hole in the wall up in the old town, its a bit of a walk up though and there's always the chance thats its out of action.  There are safety deposit boxes in the hotel reception though and Diana will change travellers cheques for you so you don't have to go down to the town to change any.

Sam K

Yasmin, check this link about the resort http://www.kefalos.com/. we dont know the exact location of your appartment, but manily all the hotels and appartment are within walking distance from the beach..

Graham, there is only one cash-point, but I would advise you to take cash. u will save a lot of money as the bank will charge you for every transaction u make.
Hope that help

Sam K

Hi we have just come back from 2weeks in Kefalos, and have had afab holiday. This will be our third visit to kefalos,we have always stayed selfcatering, but this year we stayed in the Athinoula Hotel,it was nice and friendly but we still prefer to go selfcatering. The weather was great and we enjoyed every bit of our holiday. The Harbour is very nice ,most of the restaurantes are in this area, and they all offer a good selection. You must visit The Corner Restaurant, its run by Mikalas and his wife Katerina, its very traditonal.Katerina cooks THE BEST STIFFADO IN KEFALOS,they also hire sun beds out ,and they have a little terrace where you can sit and enjoy a drink in the afternoon heat.Mikalas is a Greek version of Victor Melderw, One Foot In The Grave, HA

Stephen J

I will be on a single traveller holiday to Kos in September 6th to 21st. My age is 63 yrs young. I have hired a car and staying at Jacks 2. Anyone interested in meeting up?

Nums N

I have just come back from a week in Kefalos and loved it. Its really pretty and very quiet. We stayed in the Poppi studios with Kosmar, which are a 5 min walk from the beach ( and ok to do in the middle of the night). We were right near the harbour and near loads of resturants. There were only a few bars, lots of resturants but no shops apart from supermarkets. I was disapointed in this as i love Greek silver jewlerry but apart from that it was lovely. If you want a good drink and a dance go to the Players lounge, right near the main beach or near kokalakis hotel. Great music, and the bar guys were lovely as were the two waitresses we met. Would definatley go back because of them. Any questions about Kefalos pls email. I only got back yesterday.

Victoria F

Leanne Pearce - you say that you are getting married in Kefalos next year? How have you arranged this, as I love the resort and would love to do this myself.

Please post comment back.

ThanksTongueSmileLaugh

Sharon M

We stayed at the Pantheon Appartments and found it was excellent.
Maria & Babis, Janet & Panos made us so welcome.
It was lovely and quiet to enjoy a peaceful relaxing holiday.
The rooms were very basic but very clean and fresh. Although situated on top of a hill, the walk down to Kefalos was lovely and there was a free bus service back up every 2 hours. We definately plan to go back next year

Keith M

Kefalos was great. The weather was fantastic, very hot, the locals very friendly.

Hotel Hermes was everything we expected, clean, good food, friendly people. But you need to be fairly fit as it's half way up a hill.

We found two places to eat, one was Harry's, good roast dinner, the other was Scorpios which was brilliant, try the curry it was perfect, the staff, Emma and Sue, were freindly, helpful and a good laugh.

The boss Andrew was a true gentleman and again freindly and for an Aussie had a good sense of fun.

We will go back .

Kevin W

Perfect for anyone who wants a chill out holiday. Plenty of restaurants and bars, but is quiet. Good food and really friendly locals. If staying more than a week would recoment hiring a car as can get too quiet!

Restaurant Argo very good and the sunshades in front are very good and reasonable.

Leanne P

I first went to kefalos at the age of 9 years old and have now been 15 times, its paradise, I recommend go to bar sydney for a good night, the resort has lovley food people, there are very good beaches in walking distance, many people I have met always go back more than once after visiting for the first time, If you go hire a car or get the bus to the new water park it has just opened and has everything you need for the whole family, my partner and I are getting married there next may as we love it so much go you must what are you waiting for

Wendy D

Me & Hubby + loads of mates have been to Kefalos lquite a few times. We find it the BEST chill out place ever. The Greeks are very friendly and hospitable. We have booked to go in July for two weeks this year. Can't wait

Graham T

KefalosOLd town onthe hill is a perfect landmark for old village life, sit in the Cafe right in the centre.

kamaribay, the beach of Kefalos is a beautiful sweeping bay .

Mike M

Hi to Lisa Andrew, there are plenty of nice beaches in and around kefalos, night time lots of places to eat and drink, stay open very late, there is a night club in town, also if you go to kardarmena (taxi)the clubs stay open alnight.we are again going in June/Sept our 23rd visit we love it. enjoy your selves

Jacki L

i went to greese last summer and we stayed in panthaone appartments which was a lovely family
run bussiness. kefalos is quite a quite resort with plenty of things to do further out. i really enjoyed my stay here and am planing to go back summer 2007.
also i to janite, panos, babis, mari, savi, harry and janis thank you for making my stay so enjoyable

Rita K

Their are 3 cash machines in in the resort 2  down the beach and one at the bank in the village, bike hire their are quite a few places that hire bikes but all of them only have third party insurance.

Phil I

Kefalos is a beautiful place. It has the right balance of peace and quiet coupled with good bars and entertainment in the evening.

We stayed at the Manolis studios run by Babis, Maria, and Zoe. A great family run business where all the family greet you with a smile and teach you the odd Greek phrase. The pool is exceptionally clean and it is a great place to sun bathe as often a cool breeze blows to lessen the effect of the intense heat and effects of the sun.

Hi to Babis, Maria, Zoe , Manolis, Unicea, Stamatis, little Manolis and Chrysanthunum.

Mike B

Stayed at Kalonisa twice in 2004, first for one week, then for two. Back on 11th September 2005 for another two weeks - rather says it all, doesn't it? We're both young 50's, both work for the NHS - therefore well knackered and in need of a break - ready for a quiet holiday with nice restaurants and sensible (i.e. not in yer face English footie, although they're there if that's your bag) bars. This has it all, for us. Can't wait!

Sally C

I could not understand where every body was, the resort was so quiet and for the middle of August it was incredible. For every shop open there was one closed and many studio blocks were closed down, obviously a resort in decline. The only things, which seem to thrive are the car/bike hire places, (everyone wants to get out of the resort). Not enough people to create an atmosphere in any of the bars. Would not go again, although we like a restful holiday this was just dead.

Jacki H

It back Hooray but doing strange things

Gordon M

Missing you all,hurry back board!!!

Jacki H

HI Heather...we go before you

Jacki H

Can anyone else get into the message boards ??

Allison C

Hi  Tracey

The 11th still isn't that far away. Have a great time! I've noticed that the temperatures have been pretty high out in Kos, so probably not ideal running weather!

Best wishes
Allison

Tracey P

Hi  Allison

Obviously not your son I saw then, yes he did have an afro but not sure it was quite as big. Off  to Kos on 11th now was a nightmare trying to get a flight under £400 they have reduced the number of flights out there this year but i'm all booked now so can start looking forward to it & get away from this miserable weather apparently is very hot over there now, so may not be running this time!!!!
Take care

Allison C

Hi Tracey

Great news that you are off to Kefalos soon. Hope you have a good time and that trade has picked up a bit for your boyfriend.
No we don't live in Somerset, we live in Wiltshire, so couldn't have been my son you saw. Interesting to think there could be another one like him on the loose! Did the lad you see have a big afro?

Best wishes
Allison

Tracey P

Allison

I like your sons style! Kids eh!!!! I have a few of my own, they dominate the cases when we go away. Have just managed to get some time off work so back out to Kos 6th Aug for a week - can't wait!!!!!!!!! You don't live in Somerset do you?? saw a boy very similar to your son today.

Allison C

Tracey

My problem was that my son bought 5 baseball hats in Kefalos and didn't want them squashed in the case on the way home, so I had some serious re-arranging to do!

Allison

Tracey P

Hi  Allison

I've learnt to take an empty soft holdall in my case to put laundry in for the return journey which leaves me with plenty of space in my stronger case for goodies(only done this since bought so much one time i had to go into kos town to buy an extra case. oops!)

Allison C

Hi Tracey

Small world isn't it!  Yes I probably was on the same flight as you on the way back to Bristol. What a shame Kefalos is so quiet at the moment and I'm sorry to hear that your boyfriend is dishearted. I hope business picks up for him because like you said his shop is definitely the best in Kefalos for gifts. It's definitely not the usual tacky stuff. I would have bought more because there were so many lovely thiings that I liked but I had the slight problem of lack of space in the suitcases. Next year I'm taking bigger ones.
Best wishes
Allison

Tracey P

Hi Allison

Yes that was me. I do remember your son and you and your candle holder wire with coloured stones. were you on the same flight home as me, to Bristol?  It's my boyfriends shop(before that he was a waiter in a restaurant just up the road, it's closed at the mo but was called aghios stefanos if anyone out there remembers him he was quite popular) it's only his 2nd year open but he's getting really disheartend cause kefalos seems even quieter than last year & people just don't seem to want to spend their money(obviously haven't got my obsession with shopping). It would be a crime if he has to close it's the only decent gift shop in Kefalos. Was that your 1st time to Kef?

Allison C

Tracey

Was you that served me when I was in Kefalos then? I was there 25th May - 2nd June and came in towards the end of my holiday with my son (who has a huge afro hair style, so you can't miss him). I bought a very pretty candle holder and candle set.
I loved the shop and when I'm in Kefalos next year I will definitely be popping in.

Allison

Tracey P

Hi Carol

I haven't stayed in the  maritsa studios but stay very close, have heard they're nice and clean with friendly owners. I've found a pic on this website www.kefalos.com/accom.htm
Is a lovely peaceful end to stay about a ten min walk to main resort for restaurants/bars but is a pleasant walk or you could be lazy like me and hire a car. You have the best gift shop in Kefalos practically on your doorstep the 'ART HOUSE SUN' I often help out in there when i'm around  so if  you get served by a 30 something!!!!! dark haired woman make yourself known. Hope you have a fantastic time.

Ian P

perfect for the relaxing holiday fairly quiet early July but just what we wanted . Basillica at one end of beach and harbour/restaurants at other. Kos Town only 45 mins by car in fact almost everywhere. Good selection of restaurants with fish/shellfish dishes you would pay double for in the UK.Beer 1.5 euros for 500ml and bottle of wine paid no more than 9 euros F(house wine around 6 euros a litre) Food excellent recommend Stanatia and Captain Johns

Nick C

On your message you say you are staying at the Marsta Studios, was this just a typo is it the Maritsa Studios you are staying at.

We stayed there the last two weeks in June and had a lovely time, if you log on to manos.co.uk, you will find one picture of the studios, but to be honest it doesn't do them justice, it is basic but very clean

Have a great time

Carol H

Hi Tracy I am going to Kefalos - Martsa Studios on 4th August 05. I can't find any information or pictures off these studios on the Internet can you possibly help. Carol

Jean B

I posted this comment on the Antonios hotel site but have not had a reply. I have been trying to find out if the rooms have fridges. We usually go self catering not b & b but the deal was so good then suddenly thought about a fridge to store water and any medicines we may need to bring with us. Can anybody help?

Hi Tracey

Thanks for the info. Have looked up your suggestions and everybody seems to agree. Will give them a go

Tracey P

Hi Veronica

I couln't have said it better myself you have summed Kefalos up perfectly. I also plan to live in Kefalos as soon as possible I love it , I visit 2 -4 times a year. I also stay the same end of Kefalos as you  it's the best end away from the main bars so you can go home & chill after a great night out. Is also the best end for the beach less shingle & I love to walk along the beach & ruins late evening is very peaceful. We're due to go again for 2weeks in October I can't wait we're counting the days!

Veronica H

We have been to kefalos three times [hotel zues] we love it, when you have worked hard all year and your holiday's come round, this is the best place to be. As soon as you arrive  relaxation sets in, [yeah flights are a bit naff] but you know its big chill out time, no hassel of resturants eat here n all that, the locals want you to love and share with you there kefalos . Me and my hubby decided that one day we will move to kefalos ITS THAT GOOD everytime we have to leave we are so sad i get emoitonal DONT WANT TO GO . So if you wonder whats kefalos is like just keep reading on here cause what i have read its true. One more thing someone said to me, once you have been to greece you will never go to spain again [so true] IT IS HEVEN ON EARTH

Susan A

Hi just back ourselves from Kefalos, although a quieter place than what I'm used to you cannot be anything but impressed with the views from the harbour restaurants and bars and if your staying at the top of the hills like we were,. the views from the hotel were stunning.  The greek people are very friendly and warm and you don't get hassled by clubs andrestaurants trying to get you into their bars etc.  There are plenty of supermarkets and places to change your money, travellers cheques etc and most hotels do this for you anyway.  The bars along the harbour are not too lively but are lively enough and B52 do a fantastic 'proper' cocktail which we took pleasure in trying a different one every evening!   The Grand Cafe just next door is a great place to have your night cap (doubles at no extra cost), and Niko's special receipte of Egmek (cake) is out of this world and well worth a try!  Food is cheap and very nice in the restaurants.

There are plenty of trips to go on for the day if you want to get away and Paradise beach is only 10 mins away by local boat from the harbour which has a lovely beach and a warmer sea slightly!

There's a great supermarket at the other end of the harbour road which boats its better than Asda!  Its great for getting all your bits and bobs you need and there's a signing book for customers where you can put your comments about the store.  They have the usual gifts etc, too for last minute buying to take back home.

It was a great holiday, relaxing but not boring.  The weather was great, the food was good, the drinks were cheap and all in all it is not an expensive place to visit.

Tracey P

Hi Jean

The Stop In is great with a lovely owner, The Wave and also Captain Johns they're all fairly near to you.

Jean B

Hi Tracey

Thanks for your reply we are going to stay at the Antonis Hotel. Any recommendations for restaurants are welcome

Regards

Jean

Tracey P

Hi Jean

The prices for food & drink in Kefalos are very similar to Zante, there are some lovely  restaurants all with very friendly owners. I always find it very cheap to eat & drink, though fresh fish Can be pricey. Where are you going to stay in Kefalos? I can let you know where some of my favourites are.
Also the ATM machines i've found reliable & there's a bank up in the village with a machine. Travellers cheques can be changed very easily in many places, I always change mine in Manolis car hire the commision rate is always good only usually is a couple of euros, they have 2 shops so doesn't really matter what end of Kef you're staying. They're also great for car hire only 20 euros a day for nice car with air con & usually give discounts for a week or more hire.
     Hope this helps you.

Jean B

What are prices like in Kefalos? We have been to Zante several times and on average a  two course evening meal + wine was between 23 and 30 Euros. In June we went to Crete and as lovely as the resort was (we stayed at Elounda ) the prices were about the same as eating in Outer London about 35 to 45 Euros

Also what are prices like for vodka, gin etc when you buy them in the local shops again Zante was really cheap but Crete was the same as at home

Jean B

I should have typed change not changer!!

Jean B

I am going to Kefolos (and Kos) for the first time in September I am trying to find out if there are reliable ATM machines in the resort. If not how easy is it to changer traveller cheques?

Nick C

Just got back from our first visit to Kefalos and had a great time. We stayed at the Maritsa Studios at the quiet end and it was spot on, to say it is near a main road this didn't cause any problems at all, the only time we heard any noise was one morning when half of the Greek army went past in tanks!

There are pleny of good restaurants near by and the Dolphin bar does a nice JD and coke for that night cap

One worring thing though, on a day trip around the island our guide Costos showed us a local paper that had got letters writen in by British holiday makers saying they have tried to book a holiday in Kefalos but the tour operators have told them all the hotels and apartmetns are full, DO NOT BELIVE THEM Kefalos is quiet it seems they want to encourage people to try new resorts like Bulgaria and Croatia so if they don't play ball cut them out and book direct as the local businesses will suffer

We had a lovely time and will definitley be going back

Nick

I stayed in Kefalos 3 years ago at a great 3 story hotel at the top of the hill (5 mins drive, but a 45 min walk up the hill!). The pool overlooked the whole village, it was a great place to stay, but I can't remember what it was called. Can anyone help, as I'd like to return.

Tracey P

Zoe

Most supermarkets in Kefalos are well stocked if youre looking for tourist shops theres a few up in the village, not sure what end of Kefalos you're staying but there's a fantasic shop called ART HOUSE SUN the club med end it's on the same side of the road as club med just before Jimmys supermarket it sells jewelery, ceramics, paintings, hand made items, bags just to name a few things lt's like an aladdins cave and very well priced, very different from your usual supermarket/tourist shop tat and you'll not find one thing that says I LOVE KEFALOS

Tracey P

Zara sorry   that msg I wrote for 'Zoe' was meant for you. Short term memory especially whilst thinking of Kefalos i have a 16 week wait before i return for my 3rd visit this year can't wait but feels like a lifetime away

My fiance and I got back yesterday from a week in Kefalos and it was perfect, we're planning on going back again, we cant wait! x

Allison C

Colleen, I've just come back from Kefalos a couple of weeks ago and found the local people very friendly. My son and I ate at our apartments most nights (the Pantheon) but one night we went to Stamatia on the sea front and had a wonderful meal. The service was very good too. I'm sure you will have a lovely time.
