Olympic Holidays - (Tour Operators on Kos)

Ken P

We arrived in a thunderstorm and were then told our luggage would be an hour coming as it was too wet for the staff!! They didn't say it was left out on the runway and as a result most of the contents were soaked. We got on the coach and together with friends were the first to be dropped off. We were told a rep would be waiting-he wasn't. In the dark at 5.15am with no idea of the layout managed to find our room but our friends couldn't find theirs. The rep arrived about 20 mins later and room found.
I must say that after this we spoke to our rep Kerry (Not the missing one) who was very helpful and came to our appartments every day. I think it was the most we have seen of a rep on any Greek holiday !!
We knew what to expect at Kos airport-about a mile of  passengers and when you do get to the departures everyone packed into it with no room to move/breath.

Agrotica Apartments - (Accommodation in Tingaki)

Ken P

Liked the location very much and was very quiet-except for a few animal noises at times which were no problem. As we like walking it suited us down to the ground,a nice walk into the town/beach and back and also to the next villages.Must admit only used the pool area a couple of times when we were the only ones there. Was clean but the bins only emptied every other day.We had the first appartment which was probably the best with a back/side/front balcony given brilliant views all around and of the salt lake and sea in one direction and fields, mountains in the other.Never got to switch the grill on.
One complaint was that it cost 30 Euros to keep the room after mid-day.

Cosy Bar - (Bars in Tingaki)

Ken P

Went here most days either mid afternoon or evenings before eating or both. Demitri was very funny and we both liked him.Made a mistake on the number of drinks we had one time when he undercounted my beers, but would not take the money for it.Usually sat near the road to "watch the world go by".

Margarita Cafe Bar - (Bars in Tingaki)

Ken P

Missed out on this one until the second week when we went for a walk along the main road and came down into Tingaki. The owner and his wife were both very friendly and he especially always had a chat.Had some really good music(To me) which he would put on when we arrived-it was near the end of the season and usually we were the only ones there mid afternoon.Made very good omlettes and toasted sandwiches and the beer was the cheapest around.

Kamari Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Ken P

Stayed here 2 years ago so returned a couple of times this year.Still very good beach and sea with several good tavernas right on the beach and many others close by.

Kardamena Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Ken P

Very quiet when we went in October and we walked to the far end. Found a bar called Banana Bar and there was a brilliant small sandy beach just opposite with all the trimmings.Much better than the main area where all the tavernas were.

Day trip to Turkey - (Kos Excursions)

Ken P

Went over to Bodrum on the hydrofoil as my wife does not sail well(To say the least) which only took 35 mins.having been collected from near our appartments by coach-which was 8 mins early! Had a good walk around the area and found a back street bar for drinks and toasted sandwich which cost less than half what we paid in Kos.Enjoyed all the shops/markets etc but only bought some Turkish Delight.Went to the castle but they wanted Turkish Lira as payment for entry so we gave it a miss.ALL the toilets wanted payment for entry.

Kos Airport - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Ken P

This was our third visit to Kos and so our arrival was the fifth "dose" of it AND THE WORSE. We arrived in a thunderstorm which was bad enough but were then told we would have to wait an hour for our luggage as it "was too wet for the staff". What they did not say was that it was all left out on the runway uncovered and so was soaking wet together with most of the contents.
Going back to the UK it was the usual long queues outside which then turned into one squashed mass of people in the departure area. No room to move and not much air, good thing our flight was on time.

Old Kefalos - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Ken P

Having stayed in Kefalos two years ago and walked here several times(We were told of the short cut through the church) we had to go back again.Went with friends by car the first time and all around the old town and windmill areas. Also visited the taverna just along from the bank, overlooking towards the sea, where we went before. The same lady was running it and had a nice talk to her.Went back a second time when we walked up,having got a free trip to Kefalos thanks to Theokritos Travel in Tingaki.Must be worth a visit from Kefalos if staying in the area.

Old Pyli and Castle - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Ken P

Had been before so knew what to expect. The views from here across the Island are brilliant and worth the trip just for these. T here are the usual shops for the tourists but all we bought was some Olive oil.

Marmari Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Ken P

Walked here a few times from Tingaki along the road and walked back once via all the beaches. All in the area are sandy but there are areas of seaweed. Some nice tavernas in Marmari of which we liked Biggy's the best and they also have their own sunbeds/umbrellas/windbreaks just across the road.

Sunny Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Ken P

Went here once which is the first time on this beach. Was very quiet due to the time of year but the beach was excellent, the sea warm and calm. The only drawback is where we were there was only one taverna which was some way away and up a bit of a gravel track-I had nothing on my feet!

Tingaki Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Ken P

Walked along the coast and tried various sections of beach. Found the sea a bit shallow as you had to walk right out to find any depth, but obviously perfect for children. Plenty of sand and most areas had sunbeds etc and showers.

October - (Best Time to Visit)

Ken P

We usually go to the islands from about the middle of September onwards. We had the 1st to 16th October this time which was a bit later. We were not worried about the weather but the thunderstorm we arrived in made us think a bit. We need not have worried because this was the end of any wet stuff and the rest of the holiday weather was perfect, although sometimes a little windy. The only downside, although it didn't effect us is that places start to close down. About half a dozen closed while we were there but the trend is now to stay open later in the year.
